Scarabstar nodded thoughtfully as the medicine cat began to speak, his eyes fixing on some spot on the other side of the cave. He was pleased that Brightnoise was thinking the same thing as him: he himself had just been about to extend Timber an invitation to stay with the Clan when he first spoke with her, but they had been interrupted by Frostpaw and Lavenderpaw's return with Dovemourn's body. "I feel the same way," he replied, still staring. After a moment or two, his eyes gained sight and he frowned at the sight of so many cats up and about, but no deputy to be seen. Must have slept in! Scarabstar thought with a flick of his tail tip; so, he wasn't the only one failing at his duties. All was well, though: he could see to the patrols himself.

When Brightnoise posed her question, Scarabstar looked to his paws, his expression sobering. He had been chosen as Clan deputy for his strategy and foresight, his ability to consider every option and outcome -- his plans hardly knew failure or error. But at the same time, he struggled with immediate action. He needed time to think things thoroughly, and there was no denying that yesterday's major events had sent his mind reeling, desperate to find something he knew he could address. "I do not blame myself for the actions of the twolegsโ€ฆ" he said slowly, "But there is no denying that I forgot about one of my own warriors, Dovemourn. While we were here, recovering, her son and another apprentice were out searching for her. I should have known...."

Scarabstar sighed but after a moment steeled his shoulders and turned towards the clan. "BearClan! You may organize yourselves into patrols today. Stay away from the explosion sight, and keep an eye out for any outsiders who may have been drawn to it, as well as twolegs. If anyone can find marigold, make sure to bring some back, as Brightnoise's patch was destroyed." He paused to make sure his demands were heard before he turned back to the medicine cat, awaiting her answer and wondering what she would tell him.

location: forest, heading east | tags: sparrowtail + raingaze
Plumsparrow blinked rapidly at Sparrowtail, her eyes widening at his words. "O-oh...maybe sometime..." she mewed, trying to be polite and not offend him. Socializing was certainly not her forte, and she was surprised he was being so patient with her; other cats always snapped and told her to spit out her words, which tended to only make her stutters and stammers worse. "Perhaps the weastern border- I mean, the eastern...western is where the explosion was, so prey may have scattered elsewhere..." she trailed off as the tom nudged her with his tail, risking a glance at him before ducking her head. Were all of her clanmates actually this nice? Maybe it was only the few that Plumsparrow had trouble with. Still, the thought of leading a patrol brought a fresh wave of apprehension to her belly. What is she walked funny, or tripped?

By now, Raingaze had approached, offering her a smile that she hesitantly returned. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad; the two toms seemed friendly enough, and once she settled her nerves, she would probably be more likely to carry a conversation without tumbling over her words like a newborn tumbled over its paws. She stood up and beckoned with her tail. "Away we go," she chirped, pushing down the worry in her stomach as she trotted to the cave's exit.

She crossed the stream without a problem and let the territory envelop her senses. "Think there will be more explosions?" she asked to no one in particular, staring out towards the west where the events of the day prior had unfolded. Plumsparrow had been hunting when the explosion had happened, and recalled her experience with a humorous glint. "A-at first I thought Twolegs were hunting in the woods. I cowered on the ground like a kit before I realized what really happened." The bicolored molly's voice was growing more confident now that she wasn't in a cave full of her clanmates. She'd always felt more alive in the forest, and she only hoped her faith in her hunting abilities would keep her from becoming a nervous wreck.

Quilldown squeezed out of the warriors' den, blinking tired green eyes. He was late to rise, but it didn't seem like any patrols had been sent out yet, so he wasn't all that concerned about receiving any sort of judgmental looks from his clanmates. Even better, he had no apprentice that would have had to wait for him to rise.

The large tom bent himself into a deep stretch before stopping to tease bits of nest material from his pelt. Quilldown was normally a pristine snowy white, his fur as soft as the down of a bird, but now it was matted and gray from the dust of yesterday's events. His paws were still sore from trekking back and forth on the cave floor, helping to clear away the rubble, and then from having gone out hunting to fill his clanmates' hungry bellies. He couldn't imagine how his father might be feeling right now.

After he was somewhat satisfied with appearance, Quilldown rose and strode over to his father, who was speaking to Thrushfeather at the moment. "Something about a patrol? I would love to join, if you'll have me." It had been awhile since he had been out with his father, and Quilldown was interested in what Cloudburst thought of yesterday's events; they hadn't the chance to speak much with all the buzz in camp.

    ๐š•๐šŠ๐šŸ๐šŽ๐š—๐š๐šŽ๐š›๐š™๐šŠ๐š  โ€” [หˆlavษ™ndษ™r - pรด] โ€” 10 moons
๐– ๐–ฏ๐–ฏ๐–ฑ๐–ค๐–ญ๐–ณ๐–จ๐–ข๐–ค. a tall, lanky lilac-point siamese molly with blue eyes
location: clan territory | tags: firefang
"Yes, Firefang," the molly replied, feeling relief at the fact that they were finally starting some training. With only two or so moons left before she was ready to become a warrior, Lavenderpaw enjoyed the challenges her mentor came up for her to really sharpen and hone her skills now that all of the basics were behind them. She thought of their past sessions together and felt her irritation with him fade away. The ginger tom had always had her best interests in mind and had always supported her desire to go beyond. In a way, he had taken up part of the role that Whitepine, her father, had left behind after he died.

Lavenderpaw's whiskers twitched and her blue eyes deepened with determination. She owed it to Whitepine to become the warrior he'd wanted her to be -- and she owed it to Frostpaw to be a worthy competitor, even if he was older than her. Turning, she dipped into the ferns and bounded nimbly away with hardly a sound, her legs carrying her through the trees with the graceful swiftness of the deer that often perused BearClan territory. The molly slowed once she could no longer scent Firefang and focused on her task. If this was going to be an ambush, perhaps she could tip the odds in her favor. As tall as she was, her mentor was a full-grown warrior and had the advantage of strength and experience. Most likely, Firefang would leap on her back and pin her down so she couldn't get out from beneath him. What if he came from the side?

Knowing how she could solve a problem or two, Lavenderpaw headed to the river. He could only attack from one side here, and if he did, he would have to soften his attack so as to not send them crashing into the rapids. The banks were more open, so she'd be able to see if he came head-on -- which meant his best option was from the rear.

Orchidpaw
molly; 8 moons; russian blue w/ green eyes; mentions: none; tags: Oakfang

Orchidpaw sighed but didn't argue with her mentor. She strolled out of camp with hunched shoulders, her mind still reeling. She straightened up at the sound of a bird, rustling and singing. "Let's hunt." She said, poking her mentor's shoulder. Without a response, she fell into a hunting crouch and crept closer to the mulberry bush where the noise came from. A fat thrush was in it, with it's wing caught on a bramble. She licked her lips, how lovely the thrush would taste. But then the bird's scared, dark eyes met it's hunter's hungry ones. Orchidpaw hesitated. Was it fair to this bird if she were to hunt it? The bird looked away and squawked, flapping it's wings pitifully. It wrestled with the leaves for a moment, then got free. It got free and Orchidpaw didn't even catch it. It flapped into the air slowly, then, when it was perfectly above the blue-gray molly's head, she took the oppurtunity. Time seemed to slow, but that made it easier for her. She leaped up, her front paws extended. The bird tried to fly faster but it was too plump and was weighed down. She closed her claws on the bird's wings and brought it down swiftly. She hesitated, pinned under her the bird squeaked with pain. But with a glare from her mentor she finished it off, then held it up. Hopefully Lavenderpaw will be impressed, something in her whispered. She shook that away though.

Vixennight

molly; 28 moons; pale silver tabby w/ yellow eyes; mentions: none; tags: open

Vixennight patrolled lonesome that day. Behind hertrailed air scented of sage-and-lavender. The silver tabby lifted her muzzle to the sky, staring at the clouds. They drifted above her head, half-filled with rain and lazily slow.

Speckledpaw laughed as he felt Briarpaw bristle in embarrassment. "That's the only reason why I mocked you, but thankfully I don't need to worry about my parents ambushing me with their love and tongue, which often act in correlation in my opinion." He mewed with a smirk as a chuckle followed his words that lightened the mood despite his previous attempt at humor. However, the topic of conversation quickly changed as Briarpaw spoke about herself to which Speckledpaw nodded his head and sat down by her. "That's good to hear, Starclan knows we don't need any more loss or even injury considering the present situation we are in, so I am glad to hear that you are alright." He replied then shook his head, suddenly standing up and shaking his pelt. In doing so dust flew off, but no evident pain arose. "From the feel of it, it seems I am fine as well. No more than some needed cleaning needed to get me back to my former self. However, the clan knows that I was never the most organized or tidied up apprentice around, so I don't think I have to worry or rush the process." He said and chuckled to himself.

When Briarpaw stood up suddenly, Speckledpaw laughed again at the fellow apprentice's excitement. He then shrugged as Briarpaw discussed their current situation, something he had already noted before coming over. "Well, if your dad is willing we could go practice with some sparring or maybe some other warrior would be willing to take us out." He then kicked the ground. "Not like we need to be watched like kits, we just need an escort out, that's all." He mumbled and frowned. When Speckledpaw had first become an apprentice he was overwhelmed by the newfound freedoms, but once the title settled Speckledpaw realized he craved earning the title of Warrior even more than before. He wanted to move without restrictions and make decisions on his own, decisions that could possibly help and protect his clan, his clan members. Nonetheless, right now he was too young and could only fantasize the future. Speckledpaw brought himself back to the present with a shake of his head, following this with a gaze across the camp. His gaze settled on Plumsparrow and Raingaze who left the camp before he could call out. "Rats." He mumbled and shot a glance back to Briarpaw. "What options do we have left?" He asked, glancing back over to her father before then darting his eyes back to the molly with a smile.

Firefang smiled as he saw his apprentice prance off with determination in her eyes. He nodded to himself, counting silently. After 10 seconds he started after her, but instead of taking the low ground he decided to take a different route. That said, Firefang found himself climbing up a tree and taking the high route, his nose twitching as he looked for the scent of Lavenderpaw. Like the other members of the clan there was a familiar scent that he used to follow the apprentice. His muscles rippled under his pelt as he leapt from the trees, taking it slow but steady. He then stopped as he momentarily lost scent of Lavenderpaw, silently congratulating the molly as her skills. Had he been an enemy the molly definitely had the skill set to lose another from her path. With this in mind Firefang climbed down the tree he was in and lifted his nose to the air as he tried to recenter himself and pick up a scent of his apprentice. Suddenly, like a light bulb going off in his mind, Firefang caught the faint scent of his apprentice. It was to the right, towards the river. Smart, he thought to himself knowing he would compliment the apprentice's intuitiveness after training. For him, learning from his own experience, he thought it was important for an apprentice to know their strengths and weaknesses from a session, this way in the next session they could focus on the weak points while better developing the former strengths.

From this Firefang took to the trees again, his claws sinking into the trees bark as he pulled himself up and over the ground. He then took towards the river, which as he approached he was able to discern the sound of water, and more importantly, Lavenderpaw's scent grew in strength meaning he was on the right trail. Before he knew it, the familiar pelt of his apprentice's pelt was in his view. Gotcha, he thought and smiled as he saw her form and ears perked in attention. Without another moment in passing, Firefang climbed down until he was on a side branch before then jumping down. This placed him right beside Lavenderpaw. However, he had no time to think before he attacked, using his size and strength to his advantage. However, due to the circumstances Firefang held back somewhat, knowing that although the molly was strong and a good fighter, he did not need her getting strained in some practice. With that, Firefang used his front paws and lashed out, aiming for Lavenderpaw's front paws in an attempt to unbalance her. The apprentice had said she wanted to practice close fighting, so that was what he would give.

Cricketpaw
tags: Dewfreckle
The light tabby she-cat followed her mentor happily until he stopped. "On the way here, I noticed the stale smell of mouse, but no, nothing really unusual," Cricketpaw murmured. She waited nervously for Dewfreckle to reply, afraid that she had missed something important while she was daydreaming on the walk out. She stretched out, preparing her muscles for training. She was ready to improve already.

Raingaze
mentions: Brightnoise. tags: Plumsparrow; Sparrowtail.
Raingaze let out a quiet purr at Sparrowtail's reply. He felt for Plumsparrow; it was awkward when words just happened to fall out of your muzzle in the wrong way, but it was still a bit humorous. Raingaze was a light-hearted tom and enjoyed every ounce of fun, play, and happiness that he came across.
As Plumsparrow led the way out of camp, she began to chat. The silver tabby tom listened, delighted to be out of the camp and part of a conversation. "I hope there are no more," he replied when she asked if he and Sparrowtail thought there would be more explosions. "Scared all but a hair of my pelt right off me when I heard it. Brightnoise has been hard at work, too," Raingaze added lightly. "She doesn't need any more stress on top of the cats she's already treating and the herbs she has to replace."

spacespace Spiderclaw tilted his head in confusion, wondering why she was posing. Was it that big of a deal that she was helping out? He supposed it was nice for an elder to be able to help out, they weren't able to do that often. Or was that a joke..? Spiderclaw frowned in thought, flicking an ear and turning away. He wished he understood humor, most of the time he found it flew right over his head.

spacespace He did not particularly think of anything as he cleaned meticulously. The rock pile grew to a size until he deemed it large enough, and the camp clean enough. Spiderclaw tilted his head in thought, looking at it while waving his tail behind him. How might he carry all of these rocks to be buried? He glanced back at Flamepetal, wondering if she would have an idea. "Flamepetal," He called, "I have a question."

spacespace Briarpaw twitched her whiskers and followed her comrade's gaze. Her nose wrinkled as she wondered what significance that could have. "I don't think bringing Swallowflight is a good idea," She lowered her head and felt familial worry over his wellbeing, "he's had really bad hind leg pains and his eyes aren't what they used to be. I don't think it's a good idea for him to leave camp with all of the things happening outside that we don't understand." She blushed when she finished rambling, embarrassed. "We could approach the other hunting patrol? Or we could go without a warrior."

spacespace She felt a chill at her last words and glanced around nervously, as if someone had overheard her hushed voice. It was risky to say aloud, and probably was better in her head than in the air. Briarpaw couldn't help it though! Her mentor was nowhere to be seen and she was restless. If there was nothing more to do, Briarpaw would soon chew off her tail of boredom. She turned her eyes to Speckledpaw with a more challenging gaze, as if daring him to protest or give a better idea.

Jackdawpounce had been horrified when Dovemourn's son and Lavenderpaw had returned with the molly's body, they felt extreme stabs of guilt- they'd only looked out for themself, making their way back to camp, not even thinking about the safety of her fellow clanmates. How had they been so selfish? The shock of this realization combined with that of the warrior's death had spiralled through them, filling them with a numbing grief.

However, now they had somewhat slept, in a strange, trance-like manner, they were hoping to actually do something. Scarabstar's announcement hadn't met their ears, but they guessed that patrols were being organized as a few cats began to group together and leave the cave. They glanced around hopefully, looking for something to do - hunting, maybe. But silence was all that greeted them and their confidence failed. There was no way they could hunt with no hearing.

With an aggravated hiss, they sprang to their paws, frustration coursing through them. A quick glance told them the deputy wasn't about so they made a hasty decision: they would ask Scarabstar himself what they could do to help. Tail tip twitching constantly, they stalked towards the other black cat.

Breathing heavily, they faced the leader and medicine cat. A flush rose to their cheeks, invisible behind their dark fur, as they realized they hadn't planned what to say. Ears flickering, they mumbled, "I - I was wonder-wondering, what I could, um, do to h-help?" It sounded alright in their head, but they had no idea what the other cats heard.

Shadepaw was up and about as soon as she woke up, eager to get the day. The small tabby wasn't entirely sure where her mentor was, but she immediately decided it didn't matter. She'd spotted Flamepetal and Spiderclaw doing some sort of work with rocks towards the side of camp and immediately grew interested. They'd accumulated a towering stack of stones, pebbles and larger rocks, but what were they going to do with it?

Bounding towards them, she grinned at the older cats. "Can I have a stone?" she demanded hopefully. "Or are you gonna use them for something? Are you building some sort of barrier?!" Her greeny yellow eyes sparkled excitedly at this idea.

Duskbreeze
tags: Faircrown
The dark-furred tom rose to his paws as Faircrown did, stretching out his claws and yawning. He padded after the golden tom, secretly happy that his paws were moving and he wasn't sitting around anymore. He wasn't sure what to talk about with Faircrown, but he wasn't worried. He was sure his clanmate would eventually find something to chatter on about. He flicked his ears and scanned the surrounding woods as soon as they were out of camp before continuing to pad along.

He was about to say something, but a leaf fluttering down from a tree caught his attention. Before he could process his thoughts, he took off and leapt into the air, snagging the leaf with his claws and pulling it to his muzzle. With the poor leaf in his jaws, Duskbreeze landed with a purr and his tail flicking happily for a second. However, he very soon realized what he had done, and the tom froze, his icy eyes wide. He slowly opened his mouth and let the leaf drop to his paws. His tail sank almost between his legs and his pointy ears flattened. Embarrassment flooded through him and made his legs feel wobbly and his mouth dry. "I, uh," Duskbreeze murmured. "I was just practicing.." Why did I just do that?! he thought to himself. Mousebrain!

    ๐šœ๐šŒ๐šŠ๐š›๐šŠ๐š‹๐šœ๐š๐šŠ๐š› โ€” [หˆskerษ™b - stรคr] โ€” 53 moons

location: camp | tags: brightnoise, jackdawpounce
The oriental tom's whiskers quivered in amusement at the look of surprise that flickered across the medicine cat's face. Surely she knew that his aloof front masked compassion and understanding? Besides, if Timber had her kits here, it could be possible that she would want them to grow up in the Clan and receive warrior training -- and new blood was a strength to any Clan, despite what past leaders might have said or thought. "You go ahead and tell her," Scarabstar replied, feeling as if she might be more comfortable speaking to the cat that had been caring for her since her arrival to the BearClan camp.

However, as Jackdawpounce approached, Scarabstar's ears perked with interest and confusion furrowed his brows. The other cat's words seemed somewhat slurred and off-key. The leader turned to Brightnoise and then looked back to his warrior. "I think Brightnoise ought to examine you," he spoke, flicking his tail to the molly at his side. "I'll see to Timber." Scarabstar nodded to both cats and peeled away, scanning around for the pregnant bengal molly. He didn't see her anywhere, so he headed for the fresh-kill pile to see if there was anything he could bring for her to eat.

    ๐š™๐š•๐šž๐š–๐šœ๐š™๐šŠ๐š›๐š›๐š˜๐š  โ€” [plษ™m - หˆsperล] โ€” 32 moons

location: forest, heading east | tags: raingaze, (sparrowtail)
Plumsparrow nodded as Raingaze spoke, feeling a rush of gratitude that they had such a skilled medicine cat to care for those who had been hurt in the explosion. "Do you know of any herbs?" she asked the tom; "Perhaps we could find something to bring back for her." The bicolored molly had never grown familiar with many of the healing plants in the forest. She'd always been doubly careful about everything she did; thus, the only time she had ever been to the den was when she had come down with a slight cold, and once more whenn she'd trodden on a thorn as an apprentice.

The huntress came to a stop when the scent of prey drifted into her nose. Lifting her tail to signal the others, she parted her jaws to target her quarry and soon spotted a rabbit nibbling the grasses in a small clearing. Plumsparrow habitually looked to someone else for a plan but then realized she'd found the prey; she, then, ought to figure out a way to catch it. Nervous once more at the prospect of failure, she looked down at her paws as she drew together a course of action. "We'll surround it," she murmured, nodding to the foliage surrounding the patch of grass. "I'll flush it out into your claws."

Plumsparrow waited until the others were in position, then crouched down and crept towards the rabbit. She glided through the ferns like an adder until she was close enough to feel confident that the rabbit wouldn't flee around her in the opposite direction of the waiting toms. With a yowl she sprang forward, pleased when the prey turned to run away from her unknown to the cats lying in wait for it in the bushes.

"Sounds like a plan to me," Quilldown mewed, glad to be hunting with his father. When Quilldown was still an apprentice, he always loved to go out with Cloudburst and show him what he'd been learning in his training. At that age, most apprentices were inspired by the senior warriors and always strived to be a valued member of the clan -- but Quilldown had only wanted to make his father proud of him. Of course, subsequently, that meant he had grown into a fine warrior.

The white tom spent a few moments grooming down his thick pelt before he began heading towards the exit, not wanting to waste any time. Only when the Clan was fed did Quilldown truly feel at ease during his day, and there was nothing he loved more than watching everyone share tongues at the end of hunting and patrolling until sundown. As they walked, Quilldown eased over to his father's side. "How're you feeling, after yesterday?" he asked. He hadn't the chance to speak with Cloudburst before today and was curious to hear how the older tom had fared.

Lavenderpaw continued walking until she felt the fur along her spine prickling uneasily. She slowed down and warily scanned her surroundings, her ears swiveling and her blue eyes picking apart the shadows for her mentors ginger pelt.

      But she didn't look up.

Firefang fell from the heavens and struck out with his front paws. The siamese molly yowled in surprise and felt the river's current tugging at her legs as she backed towards the shore. Thinking fast, she plunged her paw into the waters and thrust it back towards her mentor to blind him. As the droplets flew at the tom, Lavenderpaw leaped and landed expertly on her hind paws, her forelegs reaching up to wrap around Firefang's neck. Grasping the side of his neck in her teeth, she threw her weight to the ground in an effort to drag him down on top of her, her hind legs poised to rake his belly -- with her claws sheathed, of course.

The tom's whiskers twitched in mild approval. "Good catch, but the hesitation was a bit too long. I'm sure there's plenty of hunting patrols going about. You can either eat it or bury it here for later." He felt his mind trailing off while his apprentice caught her prey. Where would herbs even be found? He was no medicine cat... Plants like water though. Maybe they would find some down by a stream or the river.

"Let's go down by the river. I want to see how well you can maneuver on slippery cliffs, too." His tail twitched for Orchidpaw to follow. As he moved, he felt the beginnings of what would soon become a usual pain from old injuries. Oakfang wasn't too old of a warrior. Senior, yes, but not a cranky old ball of fur. Not yet at least. The lack of rest from the previous night left his body and joints more tender than usual. He pondered the cause of this ache while letting his paws carry him on towards where the river lay.

She tailed behind the father-son duo as they engaged in casual chatter. Her eyes wandered the landscape around her, gazing at the way the cliffs left jagged shadows and the brush leaving the sunlight pooled in areas here and there. Thrushfeather enjoyed being outside the confines of camp. Memories of her and her brother wrestling in and out of camp boundaries made her unconsciously sigh in joy. They were definitely mischievous little cats, constantly sneaking out of their mother's view and constantly harassing the apprentices as kits.

While reminiscing about the brighter times, she hadn't been paying attention to her paws and tripped over herself. Though she did not catch herself gracefully, she had fallen far behind enough to hopefully not have been noticed. Her pelt burned with embarrassment as she bounded to catch up to the two toms.

The tom trotted with the two other warriors and casually listened to them discuss the explosion. He had been far off in the corners of the territory and had only the faintest of rumbles to clue him into the fact that something terrible had happened. His jaws parted to mention something, but quickly shut them as Plumsparrow's tail told him of prey. Sparrowtail murmured and acknowledgement and crept to the side.

Gathered into the hunting crouch, the warrior readied himself for the fast and jig jagged run pattern of the rabbit. Though slim, he hadn't quite accounted correctly and did not have enough speed nor force to pin the prey. As it's terrified eyes flashed past his own, he jumped out toward the rodent, with his claws extended. Sparrowtail fell flat into the dirt, his claws only just raking it's skin, and had nothing to show for his attempt except for the fur in his nails and dirt on his face. Whiskers twitching in annoyance, the tabby hauled himself back to his feet. Hopefully Raingaze had much better luck.

Orchidpaw
molly; 8 moons; russian blue w/ green eyes; mentions: none; tags: Oakfang

"I know." Orchidpaw sighed, finally getting out of her fluffy-brained state. As she caught up to her mentor, she called: "I can maneuver cliffs just fine, thank you!" She ran ahead, her nimble paws easily leapng over the most slippery parts of the rocks. She looked behind her and grinned at Oakfang cheekily. Then she landed. Landed. She looked down in horrified determination. Her claws scrambled against the wet rock. Nothing to hold onto. She took a deep breath and, with no other option besides falling onto some very sharp rocks, she leaped. She soared as far as possible and landed in the river with a large splash. She shivered in the cold water and quickly got out and shook her fur out. She smiled at Oakfang, refusing to be embarrased.

Vixennight

molly; 28 moons; pale silver tabby w/ yellow eyes; mentions: none; tags: open

Vixennight patrolled lonesome that day. Behind hertrailed air scented of sage-and-lavender. The silver tabby lifted her muzzle to the sky, staring at the clouds. They drifted above her head, half-filled with rain and lazily slow.
