The moment the gruff lion's voice had rung out Ladons ears had flicked back like he was still a cub and had just made his mother or another adult lion angry. However, after a moment, probably the exact moment he is pinned with a glare promising dire consequences if he doesn't help, he feels a rush of familiarity. This lion isn't exactly like Pulin back home, far too old, a little bit grumpier and a little shoutier but the same spirit in his eyes that makes Ladon smile back. The gruff lion seems a little taken aback at Ladons expression but Ladon is nothing if not respectful towards his elders. Even the grumpy, unapproachable ones. Especially the unfriendly ones. They often seem to have the best stories and Ladon loves getting on their good side. So he doesn't hesitate to go help the one eyed lion. He know he isn't the best hunter, no where close to it but he will attempt to help to the best of his abilities.

He actually laughs deep chuckles at some of the lions complaining about young ones these days. Ladon manages to take down some of the prey that roams these lands. He is rather proud of himself, even as he sees the lions disapproving gaze that he didn't do it his way. Ladon just grins back and makes another joke, this time at his own expense. (234/200)

Sen got a bit startled by the old man’s nagging. He already did his part by cleaning rubble from the tree, he had no intentions of spending any more time out here and wanted to prepare strategies for the next, inevitable battle. He turned away from the grumpy lion and took a step forward, but turned back when his voice became more intense. The lion was walking straight towards him. Sen looked around, but all the other champions were quickly scurrying away. His tactic of delegating the work to someone else and quickly running away would not work. Then his eyes filled with hope.

- Rei! Rei, come here, quickly.

His subordinate heard him and started slowly moving towards them.

- You! - the old lion managed to limp all the way to Sen, leaving him no personal space. - Grab a basket and get on the foraging team. Ye don’t look to me like a hunter, what with yer fancy mane and clean claws.

Sen was not sure if he should feel offended or complimented.

- Actually, my companion here will help you, I’m afraid I have other matters to attend…

- No! We accept no lazy kittens here, get yer stuff and get to work.

Rei has joined them and made no effort to stop himself from laughing at his commander in distress.

- You too! - the bearded old feline turned to him. - You’ll hunt or you can starve for all I care.

- But… - started Rei, but quieted down under a menacing look of one eye and one long, yellow fang. - I… - he physically recoiled when the lion started towards him. - Alright, fine, fine, I’ll hunt, gee.

They both left in the direction pointed by the lion, not looking at each other out of embarrassment.

Worm was a bit offended by this graying old lion. First, they're called upon to leave their own homes to help some Goddess in a realm they have nothing to do with and now this old lion had the gall to imply they weren't doing enough? They'd already worked their tails off preparing for the battles and risked their lives for these strangers, what more could they want? Worm was about ready to tell him off when she sensed the ever-annoying Aluraune by her side.

"We might as well stop and help." Aluraune put in quietly, keeping a pleasant expression on her face though Worm knew she must be as annoyed as she was. "It seems like the citizens here are going to keep asking us for help either way, so we might as well make some attempt to get on their good side." As much as Worm hated to admit it, Aluraune was actually making a good point this time. The citizens here were rather pushy and she supposed, as much as she wanted to keep training, they had to eat too.

"Okay, fine." Worm huffed as she stepped up to the grumpy old lion. "How can we help?" She asked, shifting her paws impatiently. Aluraune looked on with a sly smirk. Maybe she was finally figuring out how to handle Worm.

Chetan froze, eyeing the old lion nervously. He didn't mean to be a freeloader, though the old lion did have a point... It wasn't like he couldn't train later. IT would give him something to take his mind off his worries anyways.

He padded over to the old lion, wincing as they continue to snap and glare at passing champions. "H-here, I'll help." Chetan offered, trying to catch the lion's attention. "Are there any plants and animals I should look out for?" Hailing from the rainforest, Chetan was quite used to venomous and poisonous animals. Who knew what kind of stuff he would find in an enchanted forest from another world? ...Maybe offering to hunt wasn't the safest of choices. Couldn't be worse than decided to help with another dimension's war, though.

"If you need someone to get into the canopies, I could probably better than any of the lions form my world." The leopard offered. "I don't know how many of them-"

Finally, the one-eyed lion seems to take notice of Chetan, snapping at him to quite jabbering and get out there. At the leopard's reluctance, they snap that he'll know what animals were dangerous when they bite him. Which wasn't helpful. Still, Chetan turned and trotted into the forest, resolving to come back with at least three prey animals, and hopefully some healing herbs. He found a few herbs he recognized from the healer's and grabbed them, and then after realizing it would be difficult to hunt with herbs in his jaw, deciding to just look for more herbs and hope the one-eyed lion didn't yell at him too much.

Chetan spent a couple hours grabbing plants he could recognize, eventually coming back with a few bundles of herbs he couldn't name.

"I'm not listening to you again."

Lucian spoke this in a mostly joking yet warning manner; the tending of the tree wasn't too terrible, but Lucian had felt it was a waste of his time.
Orpheus, however, thought the opposite. He turned his head back over to where Lucian stood, his gaze attempting to gain some understanding.
"I don't think it was that bad, Luc, it was just tending to a tree; there's worse to do, I'm sure of it!" he attempted to encourage, but Lucian flattened his ears when he spoke.
"Don't call me Luc," he snarled, and with a lash of his tail he continued, "And... I guess so."

However, when the old lion came - although Lucian hated to admit it, it scared him to see such a ragged-looking lion at first.

"What are we going to do?" Orpheus whispered back at him, and Lucian just glared back at the lion.
"I'm not helping," he spoke matter-of-factly, not looking at the black tom. "I've done that enough. 'Freeloaders'. Huh! I've fought for these denizens, and this is what he says...?"
"Let's slip away. I'd feel bad if I just ran..."

He supposed that was a good enough compromise. While some other felines went around to help, the two slipped away from the group, wondering if the lion had caught them escaping.

Suen stood in confusion at the old lions words. Brain trying to process how being brought here by an unknown deity, and put into a battle that is not his own was freeloading. Could these citizens not even hunt for themselves? Watching as those who stepped forward to help were chastised and instructed with harsh specifics he found his fur bristle. Huffing in annoyance the mortal god walked forward and out of the tunnels. Passing the aging lion while he was distracted with another poor soul. He would hunt but it would be on his own terms, not wishing those un-involved with his arrival to go hungry, but angry enough he would not listen to orders. If he gathered something they did not want he is sure that there are those who would welcome a fresh kill rather than a beast to fight. Carefully examining the woods and fields surrounding the city Suen focused on signs of life. Wanting to be sure prey existed where beasts roamed free, or if he would have to focus on the smaller prey that hid amongst the grasses. Finally catching a scent he stalked forward immediately yet carefully as to not scare its original location.

Now that the tree has been tended to by your champion or other felines, your champion tries to go back to their plans— with little success. A scratchy, yowling voice that echoes out of the tunnels and blasts across those close enough to the city entrance.

“You there! Come ‘ere! There is still much work to be done, you young rascals! Thinkin’ you can just keep on walking and ignore the needs of our city!”

The surprising hostility in that voice causes you to pause. When to glance around those around you in disbelief, you can separate the citizens of the tree from the visitors by the rueful smiles on the locals.

“If you can hear me, I’m talkin’ to you! Get your tail and gear and come help! We want no freeloaders, even if you are here to help our Great Goddess.”

The angry face of a greying, old, ragged-looking one-eyed lion pops out of the tunnel entrance and pins you with a death glare. “It’s huntin’ and gatherin’ time. You think the air sustains us?! Get over here!”

The two sisters already had little intention to stay, so when they heard a hostile, yowling voice calling out to them in such a rude way, both Kandra and Pandra exchanged a look of annoyance with one another. While there may have been a number of unpleasant events that the sisters had experienced in their lives, one of them most certainly involved those same sorts of elderly, rude, and bossy types. Simply being old, in their opinion, didn't give one the right to act in such a sour way.

Not only did he call out in such a harsh way, he suddenly began demanding things of them, and Kandra was quick to scoff, her tail flicking slowly in annoyance with the one eyed, elderly lion. "Are your kind not more than capable of taking care of your own needs?" she questioned, her voice remaining even. "I suppose not."

"We were already called here to fight for you, as you cannot manage that. But we never signed up to meet your demands," Pandra added. "You can make due without us, given that attitude."

The thing was, even back home, in their pride, even the leader, the very strongest of them, didn't behave so rudely toward them. There were times when Nero issued commands, sure, but she was still respectful in her approach.

With those words, the twins turned and left.

Lander took a deep breath of the fresh air around him as he sat admiring the views of the great city under the tree. It was the first real 'alone time' he'd had to himself since her arrived there and he planned on enjoying it just for a little while. Every great champion deserves a little break right?
Well apparently, he was wrong.
The coarse, husky voice of what he could only presume was a much older lion came from behind him. “You there! Come ‘ere! There is still much work to be done, you young rascals! Thinkin’ you can just keep on walking and ignore the needs of our city!”
Lander gulped and spun around, lifting a claw and pointing to himself when he spied the one eyed lion, looking directly at him. The older lion nodded with an unamused sigh, shouting something or other else in his direction. Lander looked around him at the other cats and lions scurrying away in fear of also being picked on by the lion, making him sigh. Looked like this was going to be up to him now...
“It’s huntin’ and gatherin’ time. You think the air sustains us?! Get over here!” The older, one-eyed lion grumbled.
Lander gulped, getting up from his resting spot and walking slowly over. Of course he would be asked to help hunt for everyone during the only time he had spent resting on his own... it would only be his luck, wouldn't it?
But he couldn't let the older lion know his discomfort, he would never hear the end of it surely! And he was not ready for a 'back in my day' discussion, he simply wasn't having it.
So as he reached the older male he smiled, not letting him know how he really felt about all this, "Yes sir? How may I help you?"

Nthanda was drawn out of her musings rather abruptly as a yowl broke out across the clearing, making her jump a little.
Looking around she soon spotted a grizzled looking lion with one eye glaring at them all.

Not sure what to make of him she glanced around but saw that none of the citizens seemed intimidated. Some even seemed mildly amused perhaps.
Briefly she thought about trying to sneak away, but the lion's gaze seemed to fix on her as he yowled his demands and she was too close to sneak away without being noticed so she reluctantly headed that way.

She had met plenty of grumpy lions. Some of her own teachers growing up had been less than friendly, so how bad could he possibly be, right?

Well upon reaching him she introduced herself politely alongside a few others who had opted to help. They asked what he needed help with. But at first he just gestured for her and the others to follow him, grumbling something about irresponsible lions and the amount of extra work they caused.

He might've seemed to be ignoring them, but the instant anyone whispered or misspoke he would whip his head around, his gaze seeking out the offender and his tongue ready to reprimand.

Xia and Tasso made their way back from aiding Asa. They had indeed not been as helpful as Xia thought due to her injury, still, the female cat was thankful. Both warriors made their way back to Pecora where they relaxed and talked about their day, any concerns they had and the plans for tomorrow.

It was then that they heard the raspy old voice of the ancient lion that echoed down the entrance. His voice seemed to easily fill every space. He quickly demanded help from the warriors in a not so kind way. Most of the residents of the city rolled their eyes and begrudged went to help.

Xia looked at Tasso and Pecora not moving an inch. While she understood the phrase, ‘respect your elders’ she also believed that the elders should respect their youngsters, which this one wasn’t doing. She believed they owed him nothing and rather they should be thanking them for helping them defend their homes. Her wound was also throbbing in pain and helping Asa earlier had worn her out, now just wanting to sleep. Shaking her head in Tasso and Pecora’s direction she sent the message that they had to stay where they were and not help.
