Daisypup couldn’t get the smell of death off her nose. “Who’s going to look after the pups? They are going to be very confused about what happened to their mother.” Daisypup said. Why do I get the feeling Ashpaw may be dead too she thought. Sure she didn’t know what was out there but she knew it wasn’t a good idea for even a medicine dog apprentice to go out alone. He would have made a great medicine dog. She felt like going to look for Ashpaw, but she didn’t want to leave Fallensnow’s pups or Fallensnow’s body. She was heartbroken but didn’t show that she was that distraught. She felt numb. And like she should do something. She didn’t feel like eating right now.

He hopped the pack could survive and wondered what he'd do if it didn't. if everyone died except Daisypup and him, could they survive on their own?

Emberstorm nodded at Nightpaw. I guess I'll go right now. She rose to her feet and dashed out of camp. "Ashpaw!" she called as she sprinted through the forest. After a few minutes, she stopped, panting. Where could he have gone? Daisypup said that he went to collect herbs... so maybe near the river? She headed towards the direction of the river. Emberstorm trotted down the riverbank, still calling his name. As she approached Riverpack territory, she halted. Her heart fell. What was that? She slowed, and began to approach the mound of fur. That can't be Ashpaw. I'm seeing things. Maybe he just laid down to rest. But she knew that wasn't true, as she saw the wound on the side of him. A deep gouging wound where she could even see part of the bones. She gasped at the sight. Is StarClan angry at us? How did we just lose three packmates? Shaking her head, she regained focus. What could have done this? She sniffed at his body. Bear... and it smelled pretty fresh. At least she thought it was. She haven't really smelled bear many times before. This is dangerous. I better go back. She bent down and grabbed Ashpaw by the back of his neck. He was lighter than she expected. As quickly as she could, she half ran and tripped as she tried to get back to camp as quickly as possible.
Bursting through the camp entrance she skidded to a stop. She dropped the body. She couldn't bring herself to speak. So she just waited for them to understand. She stood there still stunned by everything that had just happened.

Just as she had started to calm down, telling herself Ashpaw was okay probably taking a break she saw Emberstorm with his body. There was no way he was alive. “I want to kill whatever killed Ashpaw. He was a great friend. Whatever beat him this bad deserves to die.” Instead of being sad she was one mad pup. Mad enough to want to be a warrior so she could avenge Ashpaw. But at the same time she wanted to take care of Fallensnow’s pups. They were more important to her than anything. She wanted to make sure they were never killed like this. “Is Starpack mad at us?” She asked.

He shook his head "I ..I don't know. Ashpaw has the scent of bear on him, it's nearly impossible to kill a bear."

“Well if it’s impossible I don’t want anyone to go after it. I don’t want anymore dogs to die.” Daisypup said. She let a single tear fall for Ashpaw. “We should bury him and Fallensnow. We don’t want everyone in a panic if the smell of death were to fill the camp.” Daisypup said. She was slightly surprised at how she talked like an apprentice. She walked over to nuzzle Ashpaw. She wondered who would take his place.

"I agree, we should bury them. Who will carry Fallensnow's body?" He was proud that Daisypup was sounding like an apprentice. Hopefully Badgerstar will make her an apprentice when he gets back.

“I’d like to help. She was like a mother to me and I want to help bury her. I may not be able to lift her body myself but with help it shouldn’t be too hard.” Daisypup said. “Nightpaw would you like to help?” She asked.

Eaglepaw's heart felt as though it had stopped beating. Ashpaw, Moosestar, Fallensnow... what next? Is Starpack angry at us? What have we done? He couldn't believe it, and almost didn't want to. Maybe he's just sleeping. Or maybe all of this is some horrible dream. I'm going to wake up any minute now, and see that all of this isn't real. But Eaglepaw knew that he was not dreaming, and that this was real. "W-w-where are we gonna bury them?" he whimpered, tail low and drooped.

He wondered if his friends were right but he heard all the voices of Duskpack in his head We aren't aren't angry at you, something is going wrong and not even we can stop it. He shook his head and said with more confidence than he thought he had. "No Starpack isn't angry with us, they would've sent us a sign by now right?"
