two border collies tussled outside of the cave entrance, taking advantage of the warm early sun. it was warming up and the group was slowly, but surely, growing. a chinook stood to the side of the entrance, watching the pair as he basked in the warmth himself. the dux and the recruit, however, navigated their way through the depths of the caves.

"adler, was it? i'm not sure if eist introduced me properly, i am alaric, the leader of this group." the borzoi spoke calmly as he walked ahead.
"pleasure to meet you sir," adler started, "if it were not a burden, i hope to join this group of yours."
"i suppose we will have to see about that."
"sir?" a hint of concern laced the newcomer's voice.
"you will be our recruit, consider it a trial for a moon or so. afterwards, we will decide what to do with you." the borzoi stopped in his tracks, catching the other off guard as he almost crashed into the superior. alaric spun around with teeth bared. "i hope you know we have no room for stragglers, hungry dogs are never loyal, and we will not feed those who don't pull their weight. now, you are
dismissed, go find the others, someone will have a task for you to complete."

the leonburger merely nodded, watching the male. it was almost as quickly as the leader had spoken that
he had disappeared, leaving the recruit to find his own way out of the cave. he stood staring into the
depths of the cavern, watching as light seemed to fade away the longer he stared. he quickly turned and
scrambled away himself, trying hard to remember the path the two had taken on their way through the
caves.

The energy was felt throughout the entire camp. It was a wonder any of the younger dogs didn't start running laps or chasing their own tails. Each dogs' features were bright, each tail wagging furiously at the thought of the hunt that was about to be gone on. There was no disappointment at not being selected - only pride that their friends were getting to go. Estellise herself was glad to be sitting this one out, not much of a fan of running after deer, preferring the simpler chases - but Cecil rose to the challenge of leading this hunting mission with extreme eagerness. He carefully picked those he wanted to bring, those he thought fastest or strongest, and those he thought would work well together. Estellise could see why he chose who he did, giving her second in command a nod of approval; Cecil and Valkyrie had hunted together for many moons, their bond strong. Aslan and Kana, though the youngest of the full pack members, were incredibly capable at hunting and had an intense drive to succeed. Muzét, despite being new, had not left Mithos' side since arriving - it was an obvious choice to bring along both border collies, on account of their agility.

With yelps and yips of happiness, the hunting patrol of six was sent off with an uproar of energy. Sorey's voice quite possibly being the loudest as he sang out encouragement in his crisp howls for his parents, his eyes gleaming. The howls and yips lasted long after the dogs had left, echoing into the valley and reverberating around the hills, the sound coming back towards the camp nearly just as loud as it had began, making the dogs laugh. Silently, Estellise hoped their exitement didn't chase the herd of deer away prematurely, but she shook her head. It didn't really matter, she was sure the hunters would come back with something.

"Are we ready as well?" Estellise called out to her party of hunters. They were going opposite of the deer herd, to see what else they could find, while Remiel would take a small patrol around the borders. It would leave Phoenix, Creed, Hilda, and Sorey in camp, but there didn't seem to be any risk of danger; Estellise trusted that even if there was a threat, Creed could handle it with the help of the near-full member Hilda and the energy of Sorey.

It had been a good moon. Estellise could only hope that the goodness could last.

the large dog huffed, his eyes staring at nebula and apollo, who were sitting close to each other and lapping at w
ater that formed on the ground. "look at nebula, she's so distracted by apollo that she isn't even focusing on her
duties." ikaika pushed her nose into santos' ear playfully. "don't be so worried, santos. she'll be fine." ikaika looked
at the new dogs. "besides, we need all the help we can get. and nymeria is pregnant, that means even more dogs."
she waited for her friend to answer, but nothing came. ikaika sighed. santos always gets mad when new recruits come.
ikaika shook her head. whatever, i'm going to go assign everyone on patrols. she walked over to nebula and apollo a
nd nodded in greeting. "aika! would you like some water?" nebula shot up. "we were just...talking about how hot it
is." apollo nodded. "yes, its very hot." the chocolatey brown dog answered. ikaika held back a smirk. "no, no. i'm
fine." she motioned to the water as the two dogs stared at her in confusion. "i was just wondering you two would like t
o go on hunting patrol with rocky." nebula nodded. "of course! shall we take him to the beach or to the park?" ikaik
a lolled her tongue as the summer's heat pounded on her. "take him to the park. the beach is busy right now with humans
ikaika looked at the puddle of water. "you know? i'll just have some, wouldn't want it to evaporate." she closed her eyes a
s the cool liquid filled her mouth. nebula and apollo said farewell and walked over the rocky, the lithe boxer bounding away with
them in excitement for his first hunting patrol. nymeria and santos walked over to ikaika and waited for her to lift her head up. n
ymeria's belly grazed the ground as she shifted from paw to paw. santos cleared his throat. "ikaika, nymeria was wondering if s
he could go on patrol with me." his eyes flicked up in annoyance. "i told her that she shouldn't since she is due in a few mo
ons, but she won't believe me." nymeria snapped her jowls. "you told me i was too fat!" ikaika flinched. "santos? did you
say that?" she pushed. santos grumbled and puffed his chest out, making him taller than nymeria and ikaika. "yes." his paws
kneaded the ground. "ugh, just come on nymeria." santos turned around and stalked away from the alley. nymeria gave a quick
glance to ikaika. "do i go?" ikaika shook her head. "no. santos may be rude at times, but he is right. you shouldn't go on patro
l right now." nymeria nodded and began walking to her den. "oh!" ikaika called. "can you get ahi for me?" she watche
d as the pregnant dog tried to run to the shaman's den. ahi poked his head out and began to rant to nymeria for running while she
was pregnant. the ancestors gave me one hell of a shaman. ikaika smiled. "nymeria says you want to see me." ahi's plain
facial expression made ikaika feel tingly for some reason. "yes. please go find herbs, ahi." ikaika said. ahi nodded and
walked outside the alley, pausing to lap at the rest of the water. ikaika shook her head and walked over to nymeria. "are you
excited for your pups to come?" ikaika asked. "yeah," nymeria paused. "i'm just scared. the father was a human's do
g and he didn't want to leave with me to come here." ikaika licked the young mother's ears. "it'll be okay."

The border patrols were fewer in number this moon and everyone was on their highest guard. Most of the dogs still had scrapes and bruises from their fights with the Rose Grass kennel. Everyone was tired and on edge during their patrols and it goes without saying, but no one wanted to patrol the borders. Not after what happened last moon.
Niko had been especially hard on his patrol. He walked at a fast pace and tried to hide his limp more than usual. Whenever anyone slowed down too much or asked to stop for a break, he snapped at them. "This is why the rouge kennel was able to attack us! They sensed our weakness and laziness. Who knows, they could come back for another round to fight us again and pick off our injured members. We are supposed to be the warriors of this kennel and fight to protect everyone! Our kennel comes before our lives! Any dog who can't stand to keep up their duties can make their way back to camp right now and explain to Garland why their incompetence led to that ambush." No one moved. Niko scoffed. "What kind of dogs are you? You aren't even strong enough to walk the borders. Kalsang mark the borders before we move on. We are going to move onto the southern half of the territory once you're done."
Martha spoke up. "But Commander, that's Brutus' half of the territory. They have that half covered. We've done our patrol. Can't we go back and rest. A lot of us are still injured and have pups to take care of."
Niko turned to her. "You worry about your pups, but the best thing you can do for them is making sure the territory is safe. We will patrol the southern half of the border and double mark it. I don't want another dog coming onto our territory. Kalsang hurry up! We're moving on."
The patrol moved to the other side of the territory. Niko smelled the scent of an unfamiliar dog. He rushed forward and tackled it, growling and biting the dog's ears. The pitbull had no choice but to fight back. Once the patrol arrived, he saw that he was outnumbered and surrendered. Niko growled and foam dripped from his muzzle. "What are you doing here!? You better answer quickly or it will be your last day."
The pitbull whimpered and squeaked "I-I was just traveling around. I was hoping to come across a kennel to join. I've been alone for some time now and wanted to find companionship with some other dogs."
Niko growled lowly and the rest of the patrol got ready to attack. "You claim that, but we will see who you really are. Speak your name."
"It's Tiberius."
"Well Tiberius, you are coming back to my kennel without a fight. We will decide what to do with you then." Niko turned to his patrol and stated "This is why we double up on the borders. Let's bring this prisoner back to camp."
Aurora was kept busy this moon with all the injured dogs. She had to make sure their cobwebs kept their wounds shut, fetch water for them every day, give them food, and anything else they wanted. On top of that, she had to pause to assist Willow with her birth. Willow howled and had some difficulty birthing, but in the end she had birthed 5 puppies. One of them was a stillborn, but Aurora assured her that with a litter that size she did fantastic. Aurora had run herself in circles with everyone's needs and demands. When she finally had some free time, she decided to go herb hunting and clear her head. She made a list of all the things she had to do when she got back to the den. She'd have to remake Laila's bed and get more pine needles and grass for Willow's pups, along with getting everyone their evening water. Captain will probably have another ridiculous request for her and she'll have to kick out Ulysses so Bandit can rest. Aurora couldn't handle much more on her own. She needs to request a trainee from the ancestors if she's going to survive.

Alpha watched through narrowed eyes as Omega prowled around camp, still sore from her defeat, glaring at anyone who looked her way.
The little mix growled quietly at Gallant as he passed. The larger dog simply swatted her aside.
As she got up, Omega turned to Alpha and even he was a little shocked at the intensity of her glare as brown eyes met yellow, her gaze dripping with hatred.
Something wasn't right. She'd given up to easily. Spiteful wasn't done yet.

Sly slipped through the camp entrance alongside Graceful and couldn't help but feel warmth spread through her as the collie's tail brushed her nose.
Omega was sitting in the middle of the clearing, insead of doing work.
Graceful growled. "Shouldn't you be off doing something productive, rather than sitting around all day, Omega?"
At that the mixbreed growled softly and pushed past Graceful, purposefully bumping her as she passed.
Sly could only watch in dismay as Graceful whipped around and snarled, "watch it!"
"Oh i'm sorry, i didn't see you there." She said innocently.
"Why you little—"
"I challenge Graceful!" Omega barked.

"I accept your challenge!" Graceful spat, her voice heavy with rage.
She barely noticed as Alpha barked the traditional words, or as the other dogs began to crowd around the two females. The collie only had eyes for Omega.
"Begin!" Alpha barked.
Before Graceful even had time to react, Omega lunged, digging her claws into her hind leg as she passed.
Graceful whipped around and caught her opponent's ear with an outstretched paw, swatting her aside, but the little mix was back up in an instant, blood oozing from a scratch above her eye.
Adrenaline pulsed through her veins as Graceful leapt, grabbing Omega's front leg in her teeth and biting down.
A pain stung her ear, as it was torn. Pain seared through her and in her brief moment of weakness, Omega slammed into her, knocking onto her back.
Before she could recover slavering jaws clamped around her throat and she struggled. Blackness ebbed at the corners of her vision and she was vaguely aware of hot and sticky blood pouring from her throat.
Summoning all the strength she had left, she kicked Omega off with her hind legs.
The little mix went sprawling, and Graceful tried to stand. She leapt over before the other female could recover and pinned her too the ground, her paws closing her windpipe.
But to her utter shock, her opponent was smiling.
"I concede." Omega choked, and Graceful was forced to let her up.
"The battle is over!" Alpha barked. "The ranks have not changed and Graceful has won."
Healer rushed over with some cobwebs and began to press them onto her wound.
What was the point of that battle? Nobody won.

➵Territory

The Wayfarers, as their name suggests, are a nomadic pack that roams the African Savannah. They follow the migratory patterns of water buffalo and other hoofed mammals. Multiple den sites are scattered throughout the region, allowing for easy access to safe havens should the need arise. The landscape is covered in brush and the occasional tree. Dens are made up of abandoned termite mounds. Over generations, the pack has learned how to dig out large caverns for them to escape from the harsh African heat. Pups are usually born in the wet season when water and prey are plentiful, although some are born in the dry season.

➵Religion

The Wayfarers believe in one great deity, with some pack members worshiping lesser deities. The Earth Mother is the supreme goddess, she created all life on the Savannah. Minor gods and goddesses include the rain goddess, the god of the hunt, and of course the ancestors.

➵Breeds

Medium to large dogs are the most welcome in The Wayfarers. Dogs with a shorter coat are more comfortable in the climate the pack lives in, however, a dog won’t be turned away just because they have a longer coat than others. Smaller dogs can join if they can prove themselves to be useful to the pack, such as herding prey towards waiting dogs for an easy kill.

INDENTTHE Phantom crept through the corridors, keeping to the shadows. The only tell that he's even there is the quietness of his breathing, able to be heard, if one were to listen closely enough. Night has fallen for the outside world, and the dancers have retired to their beds -- leaving the Paris opera house quiet and dark. Years of living in the dark has made his eyesight accustomed to it, but even if he could not see, his paws have walked through these corridors, and all of the opera house for years, that he knows this place well enough to be able to walk through it blindly, without trouble. Erik is his name -- though none know of it, he is known as the Phantom of the Opera to those who live within the opera house, a mere ghost of myth. But should one truly want to know of him, they need only look, however, the idea of a real ghost frightens many.

INDENTHE found the opera house when he was only a pup, his curiosity leading his paws deep into the catacombs beneath it, accessed by secret and hidden passages the humans are unaware of -- the darkness was fascinating. When he reached the age of being able to live on his own as a young dog, he returned, and made the Opera Populaire a home for himself and any who wished to remain hidden from human eyes.

𝗜sla Gris, a kingdom filled with darkness and sins. Rotting away with the secrets of the majestic land are dogs.
Dogs that have been kept from the residents of the kingdom for decades. They live underneath the royal family
's castle and haunt the kingdom from the shadows. Known as The Heirs, these majestic creatures subject to no
body except for their King and Queen. Sometimes the dogs seek power in places that they shouldn't seek, the
Underworld.

𝗧he roles of The Heirs are very simple. The highest ranks are the King and Queen, followed by the Medic and
the Guards. After them, come the Soldiers, the Eagers, and then the Ladies. The two lowest ranks are the Ma
ids and the Younglings. Any dog that steps out of it's rank boundaries will be dealt with harshly and swiftly. T
he King, Queen, and Guards have the ability to reform any dog that disobeys the rules, whether it be a kind p
unishment or a harsh one. Ladies and Younglings are the only ranks that may not be harshly treated due to th
e orders of the King and Queen.

𝗕reeds that are commonly born into The Heirs are Otterhounds, Azawakhs, Colton de Tulears, Old English She
epdogs, Mudis, and Berger Picards. While these are the most common and well-liked among The Heirs, the ke
nnel also accepts breeds such as Pharoah Hounds, Leonbergers, Skye Terriers, Boykin Spaniels, Cane Corsos, a
nd Stabyhouns. The Heirs will never accept any Swedish Vallhunds, German Shepherds, Harriers, Chihuahuas,
Staffordshire Terriers, or Chow Chows.
