Day 1

Postby blackhoeses » Sun May 17, 2020 7:17 am

I was in a state of shock as I drove up the drive way to my "new' barn, as I drove around a largeish pot hole. I made a mental note that I need to fix the driveway as soon as posible. I kept adding to the list of things to do as I pulled up to the barn and stepped out of my truck. The barn may have been small and a little shabby looking but it had good bones and a lot of land around it. I reached in the bed of my truck and pulled out the blanket wrapped bundle. It was a wood sing my best friend had made for me when she found out I had finally achieved my dream of owning my own barn. As I hung it up on the side of the barn the sunlight hit it just right showing off the beautiful lettering that proudly stated that this was The Lady of the Lake barn. I quickly fumbled my phone out of my pocket and snapped a picture. As I finished snapping the pick I heard a loud wicker coming from inside the barn.

It was the Khimaira friesian mare The Queen's Companion aka Cayro, I still can not believe that the old owner had included the mare in the sale of the barn. She was gorgeous with he black claw marks on top of the gorgeous black pearl base. I was eager to learn more about her. Yes I had her paperwork and a general list of her likes dislikes and some of her training. But I really wanted to get to know her and figure out what she loved to do. I already knew she was a great trail horse due to the old owner, but I was hoping to show Cayro off at some horse shows.

With that in mind I got Cayro out of her stall and after a very vigorous grooming session, I clipped a lunge line on to her halter. And lead her to the round pen as we reached the gate I was happy to see that the sand I had ordered had been brought and placed in the round pen. We were not going to have to deal with the muddy rutted mess it had been when I first viewed the place. After a good hour and a half of ground work. I felt like Cayro and I had made some good progress and were starting to understand each other a little bit. We went back to the barn and after grooming her again I turned her out into the pasture to graze a little. While i did some chores and minor repairers around the barn.

As the sun started to set I went to get Cayro out of the pasture, she seemed glad to see me even coming up so I could put her halter back on. After bedding her down for the night, I left the barn with a feeling of deep satisfaction. Yes there was still tons to do around the barn. But I had made a pretty good start on that list today and Cayro and I seemed to have hit it off. I went home and started writing list of all the things that I need to do before turning in for the night.

Day 2

Postby blackhoeses » Sun May 17, 2020 8:04 am

I was back at the barn but I did not have all day to spend out there sadly I still had to go to work. Some day I hoped to get to the point where the barn was self sufficient. But we defiantly were not there yet, on that front I had contacted my old riding stable to see if I could buy two of my favorite horse from them. Both were Khimaira friesian a mare and a stallion I was hoping to breed and show Khimaira friesians here at my little barn. I pushed all of these thoughts to the back of my head as until I heard if my offer had been accepted that was all a in the future kind of thing. Besides I had plans to work with Cayro on jumping practice today.

I went and got Cayro out of the barn and after a quick brush down we headed out to the out door arena. Most people would think it was small but I felt it was just the right size. I was not planing on being a boarding center or doing riding lessons. My plans were to be a breading and training farm on a small to medium scale. So that I could be hands on with everything so the smallish arena was just perfect for me. I had come out earlier and set up some "jumps", a couple of barrels and poles was all I had at the moment. But that was ok I wanted to start slow with Cayro and get a feel for her comfort and skill level. Not to mention I wanted to concentrate on building a bond with her.

Cayro was full of energy today it took us a good 15 minuets to work out her jitters before she got down to business. As we started to add the jumps in, Cayro seemed to really get in to the training. She seemed to really focus and be enjoying herself. This was really promising and I made the decision to see if I could find some ideas on pint-rest and the internet for DIY jumps. Until we could get some real jumps for training. As this was defiantly something that it seemed like we should keep working on. After a good two hour session, we headed back to the barn quick wipe down and grooming. After putting Cayro out into the pasture, I made a mad dash for the truck and headed into work.

Later that evening I was back at the barn and looking forward to the day that I did not have to go into a 9 to 5 job. I diced to tack Cayro up for a able along the bridle path that boarder the property. As I got Cayro ready for our little ride she keep reaching back to cheek on me. Like she could tell I had a rough day and need the comfort she could give. As we walked around the property I could feel the stress of the day melting away. And Cayro perking up underneath me like the more relaxed and happy I got the more fun she was having. Eventually the sun started to set and we headed back to the barn so I could give Cayro a good groom before putting her away for the night.

And no mater what else life dicied to throw at me in the years to come. Today had proved to myself that I had made the right choice to buy the barn and start following my dreams.
