Mallowshadow glared at Finchtooth from her nest, her tail tip twitching in annoyance. Being a light sleeper herself, her restless denmate had kept her awake for a good part of the night as well with all his tossing and turning, and Mellowvine's light snoring hadn't helped. But at least Mellowvine sleeps! Finchtooth's nest was a mess, as was his fur, and Mallowshadow was none the better for it. In fact, she was probably just as sleep-deprived as he was. She didn't understand how the rest of their denmates could sleep through it. Seeing that the tom was only now just beginning to nod off, her anger only grew, and for a moment she contemplated going to wake him up. He had kept her awake, after all, so why not do the same to him? But as she rose to her paws, she thought better of it. Even if she was grumpy, she wasn't heartless, and she almost felt sorry for the tom, seeing how tired he looked--almost. Shaking out her pelt, she exited the warriors' den--and nearly bumped into Mellowvine as she did so. "Hey, Mellowvine," she grunted, yawning as she did so.
Ivypaw slipped out of the apprentices' den silently, hoping not to draw attention to herself. She always had a way of looking suspicious; the way she slunk and snuck around, one would think she was up to no good. But in truth, she just preferred to be invisible most of the time. It wasn't that she was unsociable, or at least, she didn't think so. But then again, she never felt entirely comfortable talking to others, or even being seen by them, except for a few. One of those few was Ferretstep, the clan's elder. She had known him since she was just a kit, when he visited her in the nursery, and now that she was an apprentice, she liked to make the effort to visit him whenever she could. Grabbing a vole from the fresh-kill pile, she headed to the elders' den and poked her head inside. With his back facing her, it was hard to tell whether Ferretstep was asleep or not, so she tiptoed toward him and placed the vole down quietly. "Ferretstep?" she called tentatively, not wanting to wake him if he wasn't already awake.
Smokestorm had been sitting in a shady area at the edge of camp, grooming himself whilst observing the camp, when Snakedapple padded by. He'd been watching the warrior since he left the warriors' den and subsequently greet nearly every clanmate he ran into, rather cheerfully at that. It wasn't something Smokestorm could relate to, but he found it interesting nonetheless. When the spotted tom finally stopped to look up at the sky, Smokestorm spoke up. "You're awful chipper today," he observed. Casting a glance to the side, he saw Creamflower, whose gaze seemed to be intently searching the camp for someone in particular. It wasn't hard to guess who. "I think somebody wants your attention," he added to Snakedapple, nodding at the cream-colored she-cat from afar.
"Mornin', Lichenstorm," Frostcloud's friendly, if not a bit drowsy, meow sounded from just behind the sandy-colored tom as he ambled over to him. Though he'd slept like a log through the night, Frostcloud never seemed to be at full energy. He wasn't sickly, by any means. Perhaps he was just a bit too relaxed for his own good. "How's it goin'?"
