April showers bring... rainbows! And this cat is very rainbow indeed. They also have a special power- they can guarantee the health and survival of one litter of kits once every winter!
To win them, write a short story about what their favorite kind of weather is and why! Your story must be 250 words or less.

Cat's name: toucan
Prompt (250 words or less): Toucan's favorite season is the one that most cats seem to hate; the winter. When she was young, just a kit and then a vision, she hated the cold season; its bitter snow and storms of ice took the lives of her three littermates who had wandered off to explore before a terrible storm hit. her parents braved the freeze to find their lost kits, but all five of their losts had been lost, found huddled up together, completely frozen into ice. she spent every night of the next moon praying to the great spirit and the starry spirits to take away her grief, to give her a reason to keep on living without her family. during one night, after she had fallen asleep, she was visited by the great spirit in a dream that was actually a vision; it was then that she was given her power to save a litter of kits every winter, and it was enough to give her hope for a better future. it is now her favorite season, the one that she looks forward to more than anything, because while she does still mourn the loss of her family, she also is able to sit by the sides of the expecting mothers and bring them great joy by providing safety for their kits during their births.

Prompt (250 words or less): Iris's favorite weather is when the sun breaks through the clouds right after a rainstorm, and the rainbows are flooding the skies. When Iris was just a kit, his mother told them about how, the moment they had been born, the sun had broken through the storm, and a rainbow had shone right over her nest. The bright colors of the rainbow stained her kitten's silver scales, and inspired the mother to name her son Iris.

Ever since his mother told them this story, Iris has been drawn to what he calls "Rainbow Hour." That precious bit of time when rainbows dominate the skies. Some days, when the weather is just right, Iris can sometimes even feel his scales almost glowing, for kittens, Iris likes to joke that the rainbows are just giving him their power. (137 words)

Cat's name: Lilah
Prompt: (206/250 words)

Lilah actually has two types of favorite weather--a semi-cloudy and somewhat warm dawn, and a semi-cloudy and somewhat warm dusk--but she loves both of them for the same reason. Being a light elemental means that she has a particular appreciation for colors and she's in awe at how the sky manages to put forth a consistent yet unique display every morning and evening. Now, as for why she likes the clouds? That's simple: she loves the way that they form shapes and seem like something graceful flowing through the sky. Why somewhat warm weather? Partly because it feels nice on her scales and partly because it gives her an excuse to wander away from her nest.

Since the wars began, Lilah hasn't had much time to appreciate the natural beauty of the dawn and dusk. She was trained as a battlefield medic and now finds it hard to dissociate the dawn with facing new horrors and the dusk with living what you did at the end of the day. But now that her fellowship was conquered and she ran, she finds herself traveling at these times and feeling a spark of hope that maybe, she can start a new life and be at peace.

Prompt (250 words or less):
putro loves rainbows and everything they represent. ever since he was little and witnessed his first rainbow, he couldn't get enough of his fix. "rainbows come after rain," his mother would always remind him. that way he could curl up unaffected by windswept rain and rolling thunder and wait for the rainbows that followed such storms. but regular old spring thunderstorms only brought faint or partial rainbows. putro craved better ones; he required more.
during his adolescent years, he discovered that with his air elemental affinity he could start to affect storms. he could make them larger and stronger which led to dangerous conditions but more importantly better r a i n b o w s!
but putro couldn't be satisfied. the bigger the storm the bigger the rainbow; soon, he was creating tornados and hurricanes leading to flash floods and ravaged landscapes, but the shining colors in the sky more than made up for it (at least in his eyes).
so what if his mother was swept away in a mudslide he had indirectly created? he had found a way to catch his high and watch the rainbows dance in the cloudy skies.
now as an adult, putro didn't particulary care for the rainbows themselves, no; he loved the chaos that came before them.

Cat's name: Shimmer Scale
Prompt (250 words or less): Shimmer Scale walked through the House of Waves, looking around at the space that would be available. He was slightly upset about being the first in The High Council, but understood why it was. He also knew that he would get his wish for the evening. There was bad weather coming through, and it was his favorite kind. He loved storms, large and angry thunder storms. His eyes were unique to the clan, being a stormy grey rather than a vivid blue like most other water elementals in The House of Night, but he knew that this was a sign of his special powers. He had a rainbow storm cloud on his forehead, and walked quickly to a busted out window to watch the brewing storm. Just as he got there, a loud crash of lightning preceded the sudden and torrential downpour of rain. A bright flash of lightning lit his colorful scales in a near blinding rainbow of colors before disappearing as quickly as the lightning itself. He sat with a smile on his face, watching the rain and dreaming of his future.

Prompt (250 words or less):

The sound of rain hitting the lake's surface seemed to echo loudly as the white cat lied peacefully tucked
up under a tree's roots. Although clouds had come and hidden the sun away, their scales continued to
shimmer brightly, casting a small rainbow aura around them. Prism sighed peacefully, closing their eyes to
heighten their other senses. Upon doing so the rain echoed louder causing a low rumble to come from Prism.
They where happy, and if others couldn't tell then surely their purring would give it away. Most cats grew up
disliking any sort of water, but not Prism. Rain shower's brought back happy memories of when they where a kit,
jumping in rain puddles and standing in the rain. It seemed to wash away the bad, leaving Prism refreshed and
ready to take on the world. Of course it was always an added bonus when the sun began to shine through and
the rain hit the light just right to cause a rainbow. In a way it felt to Prism that they had a special connection
with the rain, especially when a rainbow did appear.

Prompt (250 words or less): myrtle stared up at the fog. uncertainty prickled through her as she began walking through it. the cold, wetness of the cloud socked her system into an alertness she didn't know she had. she lifted her eyes and sighed, letting the coolness wash over her muzzle. she had always feared the fog, knowing predators could lurk around every corner she couldn't see even existed. yet, this alertness had her pelt on end and her ears stretched as high as they could go. she could hear every leaf hit the ground as it fell, the nearly soundless of wings beating as a creature flew across the sky. wonder filled her completely, urging her to travel deeper into the thick fog. it was wonderful, and all her former fears washed away. she wanted the fog to stay forever.
