"I had never really thought about that," Sootface admitted. "I guess I just thought I'd figure it out if it ever happened. But I guess that's not a very prepared way of thinking, huh?" He laughed a little. Even without any disaster befalling the clan, Sootface had been feeling like he needed to get away from everything more and more lately. But he could never admit to such a feeling, much less act on it. No, the only thing he could do was hunt a little bit longer and wander a little bit farther...a little bit more every time. "I've only seen the forest catch fire once, when lightning struck a tree, but that was a long time ago. The rain put it out before it reached camp though...Have you ever seen a big fire, or a flood or anything like that?"

Reed nodded slowly. "Once, while I was visiting a ravine that had some cats in it, a thing that looked like a hill suddenly broke. A lot of water came through, maybe as much as that lake," he meowed, "I had just gotten out of the ravine, so it didn't affect me. But I was above it, and the entire bottom of the ravine had been flooded." Reed wished that he could've helped the cats down there, but another part of him knew that he couldn't have done anything. "I've also seen a drought, but I'm not sure what caused that one. And I have seen several fires, but nothing too bad."

Sootface's eyes widened slightly as he listened to the tom's tales of what he'd seen. "That's a lot," he murmured at last. "Then again, I guess you travel a lot, so it makes sense that you'd see more than me..." Even though I've probably lived more than twice as long as you. Although Reed was clearly full-grown, he still looked young, his eyes bright and full of life. Sootface doubted anyone could say the same for himself.

Reed shrugged. "I guess. Usually my travels aren't that eventful. Usually, it's just a new territory, I may meet cats, then I go on my way after a few sunrises," he meowed. Reed sometimes wished that wherever he went was more than just what he usually saw. Sure, the cats he met were nice, but he wanted to see more clans and traditions that they had. Maybe not too exciting, of course; he didn't want anyone to get hurt because of anything happening. "How many loners have you met?" Reed asked. He didn't have much of a reason to start thinking about that, it just came to his mind.

"That's a good question," Sootface murmured, glancing up at the sky. "I'm not entirely sure myself, to be honest. You're probably not that much different from the others. I'm sure most of them were all mostly fine cats, except for the aggressive ones. I just never bothered to get to know them. Probably because I would have been questioned by my clanmates if I started getting too familiar with them..." He paused. "And probably because I didn't need to get to know them. I had all I needed in MoonClan; a mate, a brother, a niece, friends...Everything I could've wanted." He trailed off.

Sootface hesitated. He knew he shouldn't be going into all of this, especially with a loner, but he had already said too much. "I still have my clan," he started off. "But things just aren't the same as they used to be. I had a mate moons ago, and she had kits, but, well...they weren't mine and she ended up leaving to be with the real father. My niece died a couple of moons ago, and my brother died just a moon ago. Those were the cats I was closest to; I don't have any other close kin. I still have my clanmates, but I know even if they don't say so, they're growing tired of my unhappiness." His claws curled into the earth. "I can't help it, though. They all got over these things so quick--probably because it wasn't their mate leaving and cheating on them, their niece and brother dying. It's not so easy for me."

"Oh no..." Reed mumbled. He brushed his tail against Sootface's flank in an attempt to comfort him. Reed somewhat understood what Sootface had gone through, though he didn't have it as bad as the clan cat. He'd only lost his parents. "I'm sorry," he meowed. Reed had never really been good at comforting cats, but he could try anyway. "I'm sure your clanmates still care about you." Reed didn't know what to say to help Sootface feel better.
