The first patrol to return to camp was Skadi's. Martha returned first with Laila barely conscious. She frantically runs towards the healer's den, yelling for Aurora. There was no answer. Martha laid Laila down on a bed of grass and branches. She hears the calls of the trainees. Martha growls at them. "Don't go in there! Where is Aurora?" The trainees are terrified, seeing her covered in blood and yelling at them. Bruno shakily replies "I-I don't know. She went herb hunt-ting a while ago. What happened?"
Martha saw the terrified trainees. Her own puppies coward in fear of her. She couldn't let Laila's pups see their mother in such a shape. Martha sighed and softly said "Something bad. Skadi returned soon after. "Is the healer taking care of Laila?"
"I don't know where she is."
"Then find her!" barked Skadi. Martha ran off.
She soon found Aurora with her leaf pouch. "Aurora, come quickly back to camp! Laila's tail was bit off and Titan's leg is broken!"
"What?!" Aurora exclaimed. "How?"
"A group of aggressive dogs attacked us. You need to heal them!" The two dogs ran back to camp. Aurora began to administer cobwebs to Laila's tail stub. Titan laid on the only other bed made up in the healer's den.
The next patrol to show up was Brutus's patrol. Brutus demanded Aurora's attention immediately. Captain was covered in blood across his left shoulder. The wound was deep and still bleeding. Aurora was still patching Laila up as captain limped into the healer's den. Titan was shooed off the bed and he hopped over to the entrance. Aurora laid out all the herbs she had and hurriedly finished Laila. "Someone keep an eye on her. She has lost a lot of blood and the cobwebs might not hold." Titan looked after Laila and tried to ignore the pain in his own leg.
Niko's patrol was the next to arrive. He ran in and screamed "I need all Guardians with me this instant! My patrol has been attacked by rouges and-" Niko saw the sight of the camp. There was a stretcher with Gypsy on it. Blood trailed into camp and all the dogs looked shocked. Niko recovered and shouted "What did I say!? I need all able-bodied Guardians this instant! Minerva and Candie are still out on the territory and we need to get them back! I need two stretchers made immediately." Niko took Brutus, Azule, Draxx, Rodney, and Martha back to the site of the attack with two stretchers. What they found there was the bodies of their two kennelmates and a rose painted in blood. The patrol gathered up their kennelmates and returned to camp.
Meanwhile, Garland's patrol returned from their battle. Bandit had to be carried into the healer's den by Garland. Aurora was just finishing Captain up when Garland demanded that she looked at Bandit next. There was no place to put Bandit so he had to go on the floor. Titan was pushed out of the healer's den but waited patiently by the door. Aurora began applying yet another patch of cobwebs to a dog. Her paws were becoming sticky and it was harder to apply them to Bandit.
Niko's patrol returned with their fallen kennelmates. There was a heavy air to the kennel. No one moved and no one made a sound. The only sounds heard were faint groans from the healer's den. Finally, Kalta's patrol arrived last. They placed Stella's stretcher next to the others. Draxx ran over to his mother and wailed. "Mom! Nooo! This can't be! Mom!" He howled a deep sorrowful howl and sobbed next to his mother. No one moved and no one comforted him.
Garland questioned Kalta. "Where is the rest of your patrol? Where is your Commander ivy and why does Ulysses not have any ivy at all?"
Other members of the kennel were eyeing Ulysses suspiciously. A dog with no ivy is ranked a prisoner. Did he have anything to do with the attacks today?
Kalta answered "We were attacked by a member of the Rose Grass kennel. They shredded Stella's ivy so I gave her mine and Ulysses gave me his. I promise you he didn't do anything. We just wanted Stella to have the respect she deserves. I don't know where Summer and Granite went. They disappeared during the attack. They also took a rabbit we hunted."
Aurora finished Bandit and finally treated Titan. She wrapped bindweed around his leg and added a stick for extra support. When she was completely done, she told Garland that the hurt dogs will need time to rest and heal. He agreed.
The kennel rests from their encounters with the Rose Grass kennel and licks their wounds. Though they won, the loss was great.

Elias chuckled. His fur was fluffed up, and he was straining against the wind not to completely lay on top of Sira (not that he didn’t want to). “So you don’t have an advisor yet?” The great dane asked, large jaws parting in a yawn. Elias shook his head. “Nope. I’ve heard Jaskier talking about it, though.” He said as he wagged his tail “Me and Brandy have been with him since we were just apprentices. I’d be surprised if he chose anyone else.” Sira grinned. “I think you’d make a great second in command.” Elias puffed his chest out proudly. He wasn’t going to admit it, but he thought so too. He was large for a rough collie, with years of trained muscles rippling beneath his pelt. For his final test, he was paired up against a wolf, and he won. To his surprise, he was about the same height at the shoulders as Sira. Her neck was a whole head taller than him, but they were roughly on the same level. “Thank you.” He dipped his head. He was about to open his mouth when Martyn crashed in from the top of the hollow. “Jaskier!” He cried “There’s a boar, horribly enraged! Jean is hurt!” Jaskier’s muscles bunched as he leaped to the hollow’s lip. “Come on, you lot!” He barked “This is what you’re here for!” He let out a battle howl and sprinted into the dense forest, the rest of the group on his heels.

Brandy skidded into the clearing. In the very center there was a boar, bigger than anything she had ever seen, its tusks dripping with saliva and its breath misting in the cool air. It snorted and cried loudly, scoring the ground as it prepared to charge at the group of dogs. Jaskier turned swiftly to the side. “Coali!” He barked. The long haired german shepherd turned to face him. The young female hadn’t been with the group long, but she had the fires of determination burning brightly within her, and she had promised to serve the crown as well as she could. “Take Elias and Timin to the other side of the clearing. We are going to try and flush the hog your way. Be careful of the tusks, yea?” He instructed. “Aye, sir!” Coali nodded, and she led her group along the side of the clearing, careful to remain unseen. They positioned themselves and nodded to Jaskier. He waited until Martyn had safely gotten Jean out of harm’s way and barked loudly. Osborne was the first to charge. He barked and gnashed his jaws. Unfortunately, they had underestimated the beast. Instead of fleeing, it braced itself. With a loud snort, it jabbed at Osborne, flipping him over its head. The black dog soared and thudded against a tree. As he hit the ground, his head collided with a rock, and he laid still. Lana let out a battle cry and flung herself to avenge her fallen friend. Luckily, the boar’s swinging head only slightly grazed her, but blood still poured from her leg. At that moment, Coali realized what was happening. She snarled and pounced from behind the shrubs. She landed square on the boar’s shoulders, sinking her teeth in. It bucked wildly and eventually detached the fae, but the other dogs were soon to follow her lead. Timin whacked the animal with his monstrous paw, barking viciously. Elias latched on to its shoulder, swiping at its throat and creating a wound. The boar squealed in rage. It turned to look at Lana, who was frantically scrabbling to the treeline. Brandy jumped in front of her packmate and bared her teeth at the target. She lunged at it and sunk her teeth into its throat, finding the wound Elias had dug. Blood flowed through her mouth and she tackled the boar, waiting until it had finally stopped moving to back away. Jaskier hurried over to Lana, who assured him she was okay. “Let’s get you back home, yea?” He grunted, supporting her “Hampton’ll look you over.” The two dogs limped through the path. The rest of the group started to leave, but Timin nudged the beast. “Why don’t we take it back?” He asked “It would feed a lot of mouths.” Brandy shook her head somberly. “It has the Rage.” She explained vaguely “We don’t want it in our camp.” As if that answer was supposed to satisfy him, the female turned around and began the journey home.

Jaskier stood on the top of his den. “The threat has been taken care of.” He said bitterly “We lost Osborne in the battle, but both Jean and Lana will make a full recovery. As sad as the loss is, there are much more dangerous threats that need our attention. The beast today was nothing compared to what lurks in the forest. We are training you to be warriors, knights, to defend the kingdom. If you can’t even handle a bloody hog, you should just leave now!” His voice echoed through the hollow, and the dogs dipped their heads in acknowledgement. After a few moments, no one had moved, and Jaskier continued with a sigh. “In other news, I have made a decision on who to promote as my advisor.” Elias strained his non-deaf ear, and hope pounded in his chest. He deserved this. He was the one to rescue Jaskier when that band of foxes attacked. He was the one who had worked and worked to overcome having a disability. He was the one who had proved everyone wrong. He was the one who would make the perfect, loyal advisor. “Brandy,” Jaskier said with a smile “Without your bravery today, who knows what else would have happened. You were the one that single handedly killed the boar. You protected Lana, and I know you would make the perfect advisor.” The dogs yipped happily, congratulating their friend as she made her way to the leader. But Elias stayed silent. He was too infuriated to move. The only reason Brandy had been able to defend Lana was because she wasn’t risking her life fighting the boar. Elias had seen her when he was scrapping the wound into the beast. She had been standing on the edge of the clearing, too scared to move. She was weak, pathetic, no where near the perfect choice. Elias had thrown himself into the line of danger. He should’ve been picked, not Brandy. Jaskier was going to regret this.
