• this tale is usually told by an highly respected elder of the clan (the stoneteller), to the young kits.

xxxspirit-tongue. (n) a nonphysical entity, (first discovered in a well-respected clan-cat) who possesses the spirit of any other living animal by entering their mouth, commonly taking the forms of a fox, they can even take forms of a group of animals (for example, deer). after entering the victim no longer has control over their body or soul. while having control over the victims body, the entity proceeds to commit crimes to the clans (usually murders) to feed itself. After the entity exits the victims body, the victim eventually dies and their spirit enters the place of no stars.
xxxit is said that spirit-tongue could not possess groups of cats, such as, clans and tribes. they can however, possess individual cats. the tale is favorited by elders, kits, and young apprentices. as some cats get older they are less likely to believe the old tale making them more vulnerable to spirit-tongue's possession.
xxxnon-believers of this legend tend to believe the legend was to teach kids about contacting spirits in the moonpool.

xxxthe legend tells the tale of a strong warrior once known as darktongue. darktongue was born a small scrawny kit. some say she was a light brown tabby, others say he was a pure white tom. it depends on who tells you the story but she was given the named "dark" after the time of day she was born. darkkit was the smallest and weakest of her litter. she would always be pushed around by the other kits and by her own siblings. often discouraged about becoming a warrior because of her size and strength. her siblings would always tell her that she wouldn't rank pass her apprenticeship trials. by the time of her trial she was outcast by the other apprentices.
xxx the night of her trial she sneaked off to the moonpool (only stonetellers can correctly contact spirits of the ancestors) and slept there hoping to contact spirits for guidance. in her dreams, she did contact a spirit however, the spirit came from the place of no stars. the spirit told her that he'll help her train to pass her trial as well as get back at her as long as she promise to visit him gain. she agreed and they trained from moon-high to dawn. that sun-rise darkpaw and her littermate's trial were beginning. remembering her training with her mentor as well as the spirit, she easily completed the trials as well as completing them before her littermates. this baffled everyone in the clan but everyone was proud non-the-less. she was given the the prefix "-tongue" by the stoneteller. "-tongue" represented the gasp and cheers from the clan as she took their breath away.
xxxdarktongue continued to out-do all her peers in every task and eventually was awarded the rank of deputy. she was happy and content with her life and even had a mate and kits, but she never revisited the spirit that helped her, leaving the entity upset. the entity decided to visit darktongue them-self. the entity possessed her and began murdering cats, including the ones who bullied darktongue. after killing the last cat in front of the clan, she collapsed to the ground and the clan watched her soul exit her mouth. this was the very first time the cats had encounter this spirit, the stone-teller named the entity "spirit-tongue".

when creating your character please use realistic images with natural colors and eye colors. Avoid using heavily photoshopped images like this, this, and this. kittens automatically have blue eyes at birth but changes as they age, please keep that in mind. Please DO NOT use drawn images! usually i am for this but for this roleplay i prefer realistic images only! When you creating characters don't be afraid to make older cats. I tend to see roleplays with a lot of young characters like 2-3 years old (24-36 moons), i rarely see 4-6 year old (47-71 moons) cats being played in roleplays. cats can live up to 12 years in the wild. thats 144 moons, so even when you think the cat is old they're actually just adults! please dont be afraid of letting your characters die in role-play! though I WILL NOT make you kill of your character and NO ONE else should!

I dont mind minor plot lines like romance, minor injuries, secret birth, ect, but please stick to the original plot line well. Do not make any major plot lines without my permissions! Major plot lines include, animal attacks as in badgers, wolves, and humans. Minor plot lines include romantic plots, animal sightings, and injuries. major plot lines will be used to keep the role play interesting so pm me if you have any ideas! Keep genders tom-cat or she-cat only (or non-binary/trans of course). please don't you boy/brute or girl/Molly/fae when referring to these cats! all sexualities (lgbtq+) are okay i don't care, if you have a problem with this don't argue with me just ignore it or don't join, thank you! please keep in mind i tend to get confused with trans-genders so feel free to educate me if i make a mistake!

Kit - A kitten younger than six moons.
Apprentice - A cat at least six moons old, and training to be a prey-hunter or cave-guard. (or a medicine cat.)
Prey-hunters - cats whose only duties are to catch prey for the clan. they are lithe, quick cats of the clan who can jump high to catch mountain birds such as eagles or hawks to feed to their clan-mates.
Cave-guards - the main fighting force of the clan and have the responsibility of defending the clan from predators. thick, strong, and lean cats that protect and guard the entrance of the camp.
Mentor - A cat who is currently training an apprentice.
kit-mothers- A she-cat with kits to take care of or who is pregnant with kits.
nurses - a she-cat (sometimes tom-cat) who stays in the nursery helping other kit-mothers even though they have no kits
Elder - Cats who cannot hunt or fight anymore, sometimes due to injury, loss of sight, sickness, or are just too old to do their warrior duties. They are treated with great respect in the Clan. The apprentices in the Clan take fresh kill to them, pick out their fleas, and change their bedding.
Medicine cat - A cat who heals injuries and/or illnesses, who is skilled with herbs, and leaves and natural cures. they do not receive any signs unless traveling to the moonpool with the stone-teller.
Stone-teller - receives signs from their warrior ancestors in the moonpool. They interpret the signs of rock, leaf, and water to read messages from the Tribe of Endless Hunting (or starclan). Unlike Clan cats, stone-tellers do not dream. receives special signs or prophecies from StarClan. The stone-teller also almost never leaves the camp, because unlike leaders they do not have nine lives and it's easier for them to be killed. They host apprentice trials and with the leader and deputy decides if the apprentice pass.
Deputy - A warrior who is second in command to the leader, helping the leader in their tasks and replacing them after their death or resignment. They organize patrols and make reports to the leader, and are known to be frequently given apprentices.
Leader - A cat who controls the entire Clan. A leader is granted nine lives by StarClan so they "can be first in every battle and last to take a piece of fresh-kill" basically giving them extra time to serve and lead their Clan.

• cats in rookclan have both tribe names or traditional clan names. which name they get is up to the queen.
  
• kits with tribe names keep their names until they pass their trials. they can choose to keep their birth-name or change their name based on their skill.
  
• kits with clan names change prefixes (-kit, -paw) until they pass their trials.
  
• trials are basically a set of tasks apprentices are required to do before they're promoted to either a prey-hunter or a cave-guard. the stoneteller choose the rank of the apprentice based on skill but the warrior can always switch ranks.
• to switch ranks you must have had your previous rank for at least 12-24 moons. after that you must seek approval from both the stone-teller and the leader. after getting approval you must go through a "rank-changing" trials to prove that you're worthy of your new rank.
• "rank-changing" trials are done depending on rank. if you desire to switch your rank from prey-hunter to cave-guard, you're required to battle the clan-mate of the stone-teller's choice (usually the strongest cave-guard). if you successfully win the battle, you will be granted the new rank. if you fail, you will be granted 1 more attempt but you will have to wait 5 moons. if you desire to switch your frank from cave-guard to prey-hunter, you will be asked to lead a hunt along other prey-hunters. if you successfully lead the hunt, you will be granted the new rank.
• you are able to challenge the rank of deputy, but only the deputy can challenge the leader if they feel the current leader isn't worthy, or is getting too old to lead the clan. stone-tellers can NEVER be challenged.
• you are only able to challenge the rank of deputy with the leader's permission.
• if you are younger than 45 moons your request to challenge the deputy will almost always be denied.
• when challenging the deputy you must battle them until one surrender. the leader will never let the battle goes as far as to kill any cat. if the two cats end in a draw, the current deputy keeps their rank. if the challenger is defeated the battle, they will be punished with changing elder's bedding for a week. if the deputy is defeated, the challenger will gain the rank of deputy and the former deputy will go back to their rank before deputy. (this also works the same when challenging leader)
• the stone-teller decides who will replace them when they're no longer around. usually and almost always being the medicine cat,
• medicine cat apprentice are chosen by stone-teller. stone-teller gets their choice by asking the stars for the most fit cat to fit the rank. their intuition tells them when a cat is fit to be medicine cat apprentice, usually as soon as the kit's born. it can take longer though.
• medicine cats are taught by the stone-tellers how to contact the ancestors and get closer to them. while they focus on teaching the medicine cat apprentice healing.
• apprentices choose whether they would like to train as a prey-hunter or cave-guard during their apprentice ceremony. a proper mentor will be chosen accordingly.

xxxPLOT ONE, THE MISSING APPRENTICES
the season is new-leaf and a group of 5 apprentices are ready for their trials, though the day before their trials one of the apprentices goes missing. the other 4 apprentices are determined to find their friend, but they are convinced the spirit-tongue got a hold of them. the group plans to sneak out at moon-high to search for their friend. they even go beyond their clan territory to find their friend.

the apprentices have been gone for hours, so the clan decides to set up an patrol to search for the cats. it takes, weeks to find the cats, but the clan eventually finds all 5 apprentices, yet only 4 will return back to camp.
