(@Animals, aww that's super cute. I can imagine it must be pretty soothing to them as well as to other animals.)
Dustkit couldn't keep her eyes open any longer, and before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep. She snored softly as her chest rose and fell to the rhythm of her breathing.
"They're supposed to be, but it was an emergency," Sunflare pointed out. He looked up when Cedartail returned from talking with Blizzardclaw and nodded. "Sure, I'll come." He rose to his paws, then meowed to Raccoonpaw, "If you want to go anywhere, you'd better come with us now; otherwise, stay at camp. We don't need another missing apprentice," before running after Cedartail. "He was here recently," he murmured, scenting the air. "He couldn't have gone far."
Splashfeather let out a mrrow of laughter as the snow sprayed into her face. "Oh, you're gonna get it now!" she growled playfully, kicking off with her hind paws and launching herself into the air, paws outstretched towards Jackdawpaw.
Tigerblaze narrowed his eyes as he listened to Beestar silently, forcing his tail to lie still on the den floor. "You're right--it hasn't been," he replied at last. But perhaps yours has. "And that was no rash decision of mine. I considered the repercussions--oh, yes, I was sure you'd punish me when you found out--but I figured it was worth the risk to find Bearpaw. And since you asked, yes, there was a chance that she was on their territory. Do you think I would have made the decision I did if there wasn't? You don't see me walking all over EagleClan's borders or telling others to do the same when there's not a missing apprentice that could be in their territory, do you? Her scent trail ended at the stream, so from there, she could have crossed or been swept to either EagleClan territory or Twolegplace, and considering there were six of us, it made no sense for all of us to go search the same place. Bearpaw could have just as easily been on EagleClan territory as well as Twolegplace, so I split us up to increase our chances of finding her faster...But I'm sorry, I'm sure you're not interested in the details." There was an edge to his tone. "Here's my point, Beestar. This was never about authority or leadership, like you seem to think it is. This was about a missing apprentice--an apprentice who shouldn't have even gone missing in the first place, considering your deputy has been training her for two moons by now, but I digress. My focus was on finding her, not on what I had the 'right' to do as 'just a warrior,' and not even on borders. Finding her was more important than any of that, or so I felt. But clearly you don't feel the same way." His tail tip twitched once. "You call what I did foolish, ignorant, a lapse in judgment--but I have to ask, why? Because I did it without your permission? Because I didn't want to run back to camp to ask you and waste more time? Because I put the safety of an apprentice above borders and, yes, above even your authority? You should be glad that I found her, and intent on making sure her mentor learns to control her, but instead you're angry with me because I prioritized an apprentice's safety over my leader's authority. Why? Surely you aren't so insecure in your leadership that you require it to be prioritized above all else, even the lives of your clanmates." The beginning hint of a sneer in his voice was quickly replaced with a more deferential tone as he added, "My intention was not to undermine your authority, though that's clearly how you perceived it. If it was, you'd know. I respect you as my leader--the same way that I respect EagleClan's borders. And just like with clan borders, my respect for you is not paramount to the safety of a clanmate, especially that of an apprentice. Sometimes boundaries have to be crossed, and I believed that this was one of those times. But if you still want to punish me, then go ahead. I'll take full responsibility, considering I acted rationally and was, after all, the one who sent the others to search EagleClan territory in the first place. Besides, senior warriors should be held to a higher standard anyway, don't you think?" His gaze was locked with hers, almost challenging her to punish him.

Littleflower took another bite of the bird after Oatleaf had, then nodded at the elder's question, swiping her tongue over her jaws. "Yeah, everything was fine, mostly. Prey is getting scarcer, but that's to be expected. Swiftbadger got hurt, too, but Daydream's treating him now so he should be fine...I hope."
