i. information on sedna

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:59 pm

not much was known about this mermaid. sedna has a past she wished not to tell, and it was to remain that way for only few to know. yet this is what is know or rumored about her:
rumors have it that she is the projection of the hatred of those who have drowned at the hands of sirens to the child who played to close to the sea. nothing was confirmed by those who asked this sea creature. yet, it was seen to be

the few who met here describes her as cunning and mysterious. a good listener who would eventually twist your words and use it against you. in all descriptions, she has said to have changed due to a hatred in her towards an old friend and ally.

this mermaid was one of tricks and revenge of who took from those who wronged her in the past. a little payment could easily by someone could easily lead her to do what they wanted to someone they hate. pay the right price and she’ll do what is asked as long as she agrees.

she is seen in murky waters, mainly ones with sharks to protect her. they call her a sea witch for that. disgust is highly seen towards that nickname, so it is known she has a hatred towards magic.

sedna had a keen distaste for any magical so she is rumored to have been greatly affected by one in the past. the one who caused her to be so hateful and vengeful, and the one who made her, physically and personality wise, into what she is today.

sedna is a mysterious one who has little information on her in the world, but yet today there are still claims that she lurks the ocean trying to storm up a revenge to the one who turned her into this hateful monster of a mermaid. so, be aware of the mermaid’s fins to ensure you might not encounter her.

ii. prologue - who am i?

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 13, 2020 6:03 pm

the waves surged around her as her eyes fluttered opened. she gasped as she breathed in the water surrounding her. adrenaline surged through her body because it expected to drown. to die, there in the deep ocean. she expect the ended, but she had a genuine surprise from the ocean. she could breathe. . . it felt like a sharp knife as she took the few first breathes. but, that was the least of her worries as it subsided.

she didn't remember anything about herself. a total blank memory of a new person, she didn't know a thing on who she was. then, she glanced down. a fish tail beneath two front paws peaked out, then a memory came flooding back as something clicked in her mind. her mind flooded with the new information as the memory came to light. it was a faded memory. yet she could see some clear images of a figure drawing something on the wooden floor of the pier. anger filled her as she attempted to get their attention, but they keep on chanting something. then, she was pushed back into the water as she felt her hind legs merge. it was like daggers and needles, immense pain that she would never wish to have again, and her anger just grew. then, it went dark, and that was it.

the memory confused her, yet it had gave her some hope to find out she did have some past. but, it wasn't much of a hint to unlock her past. but, a shadow snapped her out of that thought. she drew her lips back into a snarl as it approached. the shadow was a small rowboat, and she wished for it to past over her. but, it didn't and two paws dropped into the water, trying to get her. but, she couldn't move, not knowing how to use her new fish tail, yet she could still struggle against their grasp. "we got a fighter!" a voice exclaimed from above the water. "we need to get- why, i can't believe my eyes. it's a mermaid, not a random child out at sea."

"let go of me," she said as she was lifted into the rowboat. the only good thing about the situation was that she could breathe air for at least sometime, but that didn't change the stranger pulling her into the rowboat's floor.

"we're helping you, that part of the sea is too dangerous, especially for you merfolks. sharks lurk about, and you don't want to be their bait especially if you are named that," the stranger chuckled. then, a moment of recognition struck their face. "i think you were the one we were supposed to look out for. sharkbait's the name, and she told you to find me some long time ago. but, it's been five years since we last heard about you. you've been gone without a trace, and my brain is a bit foggy today. so, what's the name, kid?"

"i don't know, i just now woke up from whatever that was. but, your name. . . it sounds familiar, but i don't know where or when i heard it," she confessed to sharkbait. "and, even worse, i don't even know who i am."

"that's not supposed to be right, kid. she said that you'll remember some but not all. must have been the five years between that day and now taking a toll on your memory," sharkbait confessed. then, she turned back towards the ship. "tynda, ready the sails. and, vanessa, send a bird, whatever bird we have on hand, to and address it to you know who. we got a messy situation with this mermaid. and, you, we'll call you sedna for now. i don't know how you'll do on the ship, sedna, so hang onto the ladder for now." sharkbait rowed towards the ship as she saw a small dove taking off and two figures rushing about. answers would soon come, but senda just needed to know who she was. . .

iii. chapter one - returning

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:58 pm

the whole isles dotted the distance from where she was on the ship. the ladder was uncomfortable and the ship too fast for her comfort. it was something that she got used to, but it was starting to make her feel it more when she started to see the country in sight. sharkbait was the only one who truly talked to her while vanessa and tynda just looked overboard sometimes, ensuring that she was still hanging onto the ship. the entire journey was tiresome and boring, but she had hope that whoever they were taking her to could truly help her with gaining back her memories.
as the ship docked, she was dragged up onto it by the trio of sailors. “how was the journey?” tynda asked as sharkbait and vanessa started to haggle with someone.

“fine, i suppose,” said sedna as she looked over towards the two others. “what are those two doing?” and, it didn’t seem to be going well.

tynda shrugged some before she attempted to answer the question. “bait saw that guy having a spare wheelbarrow, so she went to haggle for it to try to get you to the place where we need to go. and, with bait’s temper, vanessa went over to keep bait from blowing her fuse with the guy and being a voice of reason. it doesn’t seem to be working that well though.”

“oh, okay. . . it seems as if they need you.” pointing over towards both sharkbait and vanessa, tynda seemed to grow some sweat on her brow as vanessa was seen trying to hold back sharkbait. it seems as if the haggling wasn’t working at all. “don’t worry about me for a few minutes, i can scare them away with a quick slap of this fish tail.” tynda rushed away to stop them before the guy rushed away seeing tynda approach. her build was pretty muscular, and with her extra fluff and being the tallest of the trio, it easily gave her intimidation even when she didn’t mean to. so, it wasn’t surprising that she scared the guy.

it was quite a comedic sight as the trio tried to decide what to do. sharkbait with her extra gestures and body language, vanessa with her feisty eyebrows, and tynda just not caring much, all added to the situation. the arguing couldn’t be heard from where she was, and it led her to make it up in her head, adding to the exciting scene. it ended with tynda throwing three silver pieces towards the frightened guy, and vanessa went off to find something to fill the wheelbarrow full of water. “sedna, we’re coming! we got a nice wheelbarrow for a discount,” sharkbait called towards sedna. “just hold still, and we’ll be there in a snap.”

it took some time before the trio returned, looking somewhat annoyed and exhausted. it was nearing sunset the group had to move fast in order to ensure they got to where they needed to go. hush tones settled among the group as sedna settled into the water-filled wheelbarrow. the journey was peaceful as the sunset, and the small medieval styled town was gorgeous compared to the lackluster sea. it soon ended as the group ended up in a small alleyway. a small sign had a potion bottle on it, and an unknown language surrounded it. “sedna, we’re here,” tynda said bluntly. “this is naenia’s shop. she can help you.”

“naenia?” that name sounded familiar to her as a small memory of a garden flittered into her mind. in the garden sat a small figure, horns came from the long ruby hair. she knew it was naenia, but why did a sense of dread wash over her when she first heard the name. it was something that confused her. but, she had to figure it out due to wanting to know who she was.

“yeah, you should know her. she gave you that tail though we don't know why or how?” vanessa said, concern was heard in her voice. a small thing that sparked a connection in her mind. she gave me this tail? sedna thought as she attempted to keep her mind stable. the memories came flooding back, too many at once overwhelmed her mind. she soon seemed to be uneasy as everyone attempted to get her into the shop. then, her eyes saw naenia in the back of the shop. it just made it worse.

“what do you think i can- never mind, remese looks faint, get her over here. the memories have overwhelmed her due to them being explosive in her mind. this is dangerous. . .” naenia attempted to say to the small group as her hearing became fuzzy and the world grew darker. the voices grew faint as her memories took hold of her unconcious being. sedna, now remese, entered her forgotten past as the world excited her sight.

iv. chapter two - returning to the past

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 20, 2020 3:03 pm

“naenia!” remese shouted as she ran towards the young naenia in the floral gardens of a palace. naenia, a young princess of a kingdom, turned towards her young friend.

“remese, how do you do?” naenia greeted her with a small chuckle. remese also let out a small chuckle along with the ruler. they always teased about the formalities and manners of the court life.

“oh, your highness, you shouldn’t have asked. you already know that all your subjects are happy under your mother’s very highly just rule,” remese joked back. that was just how they were, two of the most fake mannered court members in the kingdom. in truth, most of the court was corrupted and vengeful. taking what was ‘theirs’ and casting out the rest of the subjects in the kingdom. it was a horrible place with not much hope there. but, that didn’t seem to stop the twos joking matters as remese tried to ensure could talk to her friend normally. “come on, you know that-”

“that you know about my necromancy, and a court patient is dying in your mother’s care. so, you want my help. . .” naenia muttered out. it seemed as if she was upset by being ‘used’ by remese.

“how did you know?” remese asked. disbelief in her voice was clear and certain. she knew rumors floated around the court of her mother’s incompetence sometimes but not like this. “and, i just wanted to say that we shouldn’t be so mannerful like that and just be normal.”

“oh, never mind. let’s head down towards the library since i heard that there was some juicy court gossip over there,” naenia said as she started to lift the folds of her dress and run towards it. she tried to stop naenia, but couldn’t do so. it was weird for naenia to just be like that as she was normally reclunacant to listen to gossip. something was up with her, and having an unregister skilled necromancer in court, especially the middle princess, was fishy along with blurting it out in the middle of the palace. practicing it was a big law breaking magic to the point where everything would be lost if one did it. naenia is a secretive one, and even remese didn’t know most of naenia, it was weird. so, she knew something was up.

racing along the naenia’s trial, she found herself caught in the middle of the gossip. the whole thing was rumors about her and her mother over the dying patient. something was up among the court. and, these rumors were devastating to hear. the whole thing caused her to run faster towards the library. the voices mocked her in her mind as she tried to block them out, but they just got stronger and more powerful. tears formed, and anger grew. she wanted to scream.
remese suddenly stopped as naenia stopped her in her tracks. “nae-” she tried to say, but her mouth was covered to avoid anything from being said.

“quiet,” naenia whispered as she pointed towards two figures in the room. they were both of their mothers discussing things in a hushed tone, yet it echoed in the massive library. “he’s in worse condition, amanette? you promised that your herbs would work!” the queen quietly roared. “if he grows worse, then you know what would happen.”

remese watched as tears formed in her eyes. it sure gave her the knowledge of the gravity of the situation. her mother tried to form an excuse, but she stammered out something.“but, your majesty, it is-”

“i don’t care what it is. he’s important in this court and my advisor. the whole thing is horrible for my kingdom,” the queen interrupted the explanation. “you better hope miracles happen.” sliding back into the shadows, naenia forced them both back as their mothers pasted. the whole thing caused her to be in perspective of the horrible situation that her mother is falling into. when the library was clear, she let out a stressed and saddened sigh and looked towards her friend. “naenia, you have to help me. . .”

v. chapter three - broken promise

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 20, 2020 3:05 pm

naenia looked at the brew below her paws. she agreed to help to brew something to help ensure that remese’s mother could heal the court member. but, like all magic, it was at a price, and since naenia practice necromancy that price was to bond the souls, feeding off of remese’s life force. to heal the court member, she had to give up some of her life force, sharing a life with someone else. no matter the price, she knew she had to do it to ensure that she could ensure her mother could be protected somewhat.

naenia looked up, eyes shining with concern. “are you sure? you’ll face the same things that he does, and there are huge risks in it.”

remese nodded her head. anything was worth it if it meant to protect her mother. “please just finish it since how your mother spoke about him. it sounded as if he was close to death.” naenia sighed and reached out for the binding object to ensure it would be complete. the binding object was a small strand of remese’s hair. dropping it in, the spell was complete and naenia scoped it out. then, a brisk knock at the door alerted remese to hide. “you may come in,” naenia said as she put on her best act of a perfect court member for whoever was at the door.

“naenia, what did you think about helping them?” the queen scolded her as soon as she entered the room. “those two would just have fallen into ruins would be a good laugh in the court.”

naenia stammered out, “what do you mean, my dearest mother?”

“i was told about your little plan with remese, don’t play dumb with me,” the queen said. looking down at the potion, she snarled at it in disgust. “dump it out, now.”

    “but, she’s-”

“i don’t care what you think, naenia,” the queen said as she spied remese in the corner. her eyes shimmered in an unsettling way. “why isn’t that little runt? i want to keep quiet about the whole thing. and, if you attempt to run and tell your dear mother, then your mother will meet a worse fate than yours, or give it here and keep your place in court.” ignoring the request, she ran to her mother. she didn’t care about the court position, only about her mother’s safety.

naenia joined her and motioned her to follow her through a tunnel as she emerged from her room. “this is a quick way to her. follow me.” they raced through it as the guards were approaching from behind, shouting and commanding them to halt. but, they ignored it as they entered the back courtyards of the palace. she didn’t understand the route but trusted her friends’s judgement as the guards drew closer. naenia pushed her forwards towards the ocean, and ensured that they kept running towards it. the pier came into sight as the pair ran into the darkness. the edge came as shouting came too. “naenia, what do we do now?” remese asked as she panicked even more, just wanting to see her mother. she turned back to face naenia as she saw runes being drawn on the ground. “what are you-”

“let the waves overtake, overtake the mind and memories,” naenia started to chant. remese tried to interrupt her as the whole thing started to drown out her protests. she tried to block it out, the repetition of doing with the ocean and transforming. the whole thing was crazy, guards were approaching. anger grew as she wanted to just yell at her, protesting everything. they need to jump into the ocean and escape. “take to the sea, remese, and transform it,” naenia said as she finished the chant. “remese, you need to go now!”

“no, tell me what you were doing? naenia, what did you do!” remese said as anger filled her even more. the guards were approaching. “naenia, we both-”

“i’m sorry,” naenia said as she pushed ramese into the ocean. the ocean flooded her vision as she saw the form of naenia run off. that was when it all faded black. there floating in the ocean was where she gained her tail, the tail given to her by naenia.

vi. epilogue

Postby lovage » Mon Apr 20, 2020 3:08 pm

sedna woke up from her small faint spell in front of the fire. sharkbait attempted to say something, but naenia beat her to it. “finally, you’re awake, remese-”

“you did this to me! i just wanted to warn my mother,” sedna shouted at her. “why did you turn me into this?” water splashed out of the wheelbarrow as she started to tear up.

“i wanted to save you, to protect you from her.” naenia came closer, yet sedna pushed her away. “you are safe he-”

she would finally be able to speak unlike how she was before on the pier. so, she interrupted her and spoke her mind. “i don’t want your excuses, naenia. you did this to me for just that. . . at least, i would have gone down with my mother, the only one who truly cares about me. you’re just like her, that horrible excuse of a ‘queen’, naenia.” she dragged herself out of the wheelbarrow, making her way to the canal nearby. the trio of sailors watched in disbelief, trying to think of something to do.

making her way towards there was frustrating and painful, with naenia attempting to stop her. she ventured towards the canal and dropped herself in. the four figures of sharkbait, vanessa, tynda, and naenia attempted to fish her out to reason with her. but, she didn’t let them as she took off towards the ocean to let it take her in its murky depths, to be one with its hatred toward those who wronged it. that’s what she has seen doing, a vengeful force who lurks in the water seeking revenge again naenia for turning her into this.
