Hello!
Welcome to my poetry thread.
There's a 'book' I've been wanting to work on lately and
I guess there's no better time to work on it than during a shelter in place!
The book is called 'Roses & Lavender' which,
in terms of flower meanings,
translates to 'Love & Devotion.'
My inspiration for the title comes from my love for flowers and
my love for Milk & Honey (I'm sure you poetry lovers have read it!).
Basically, this will be a compilation of poems (by me)
with a twist of flower meanings, symbolism, etc. sprinkled throughout.
Please feel free to message me about any of my poems.
Hope you enjoy!!◣─────────────────────•~

𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 & 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏She was a rose in a patch of daisies.
Her thorns pricking all who came near.
She'd never compete with the daisies;
with their purity and innocence.
The thorns protruding from her stem
kept them away, picking only daisies.
She was lavender, calm and silent.
Many were drawn to her fragrance,
only to be discouraged by her caution
and her habit of intense devotion.
She was often taken for granted.
Her fragrant petals radiating a sense of calm.
A calm that left people sleepy
and tired of her before she
was able to reveal her true self.

𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑩𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔She dug frantically,
ignoring the dirt under her nails.
The ground barely thawed,
her fingertips were numb.
She heaved out the last bit of dirt,
sat back and sucked in a breath.
Tears filled her eyes as she rested,
she grabbed a box nearby.
The petals glowed yellow in the sun.
A tear streamed down her nose,
landing onto the roots of the daffodil.
She patted the soil into place,
then stood to admire her work.
A whole new beginning.

𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚The sun shone its yellow warmth down
upon her translucent, perfectly pink petals.
She felt the shackles of the winter cold giving way,
the disappointments of last spring melting into the soil.
She reached upward, outward.
This new, abundant freedom to start again.
To prosper, allowing the dead leaves of past years to fall away.
The now vacant area permitting new growth.
A fresh speckled pink lily, illuminated by the sun,
promising days full of opulence.

𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆She remembered carefully placing
the tulip bulbs into the earth.
Hoping each night they would survive till spring.
Longing so deeply for them to grow.
So tired finding nothing but
unearthed, eaten up growths.
Spoiled, budding into nothing except
the discouragement that left her empty.
The warming weather sparked excitement.
Like clockwork, she peered out the window
everyday to see if her time for waiting had ceased.
Four days passed and still nothing but
the fading hope and emptiness filling her.
On the fifth day,
a knock at the door quickened her heart.
It was springtime, the sun shone through her drapes.
She opened the door and poked her head out.
A man smiled down at her and
she lifted herself to her tippy toes
peeking over his shoulder to see
the tulips in full bloom, swaying
giving her the approval she needed
to pursue this perfect love.
