“it’s okay,” he responded after a moment. was she insecure? the tom cat had noticed her analytical gaze burning into his pelt - was she comparing herself to him? mothpaw had grown significantly over the past few moons, yet he was still one of the skinnier and scrawnier toms compared to the males that slept in the den. though he knew he was supposed to comfort the female, he couldn’t help but feel his ego swell from her gaze.
“maybe he just forgot, cats forget. don’t take it to heart.” mothpaw offered a small smile, fake yet with good intentions. “i’m sure you’re a fine apprentice - but i’ll see if what you say is true.” what if he helped her? perhaps he was jumping to conclusions, but mothpaw had already begun to formulate a plan on boosting the apprentices confidence. if he started easy on her, she’d be more secure in her abilities, surely? besides it wasn’t like anyone would be watching. nobody would see him letting her win. honeypaw was probably talented anyway.

the pair padded towards the fresh kill pile, mothpaw padding ahead slightly as he scoped out what was avaliable. only take something small, he reminder himself. eating before training didn’t mean binging. before his paws lay two small mice, flesh hugging the bones beneath their skin. this will do. the mottled tom recalled the way honey’s stomach had growled earlier - she was hungry. which was larger?
“you have that one, on the left,” he said quietly, nudging the larger mouse.

honeypaw felt a spark of confidence, "of course I'm a fine apprentice" she teased lightly as she nudged him with her shoulder. "and you arent to bad yourself. although I guess we will find out soon enough". honeypaw glanced at the mice they had chosen, the plumper mouse seemed more suited for mothpaw, but she didnt dare say another about it. instead she bent her head down and took a bite of the mouse. the flavors of the forest bursted in her mouth. she smiled for a second before glancing at mothpaw. she quickly swallowed,, "so uh, hows training with faircrown? he seems like a really good mentor." she spoke with a soft, sweet voice. she waited for a reaction, maybe he did like her? maybe she liked him! 'honeypaw your being ridiculous.
'
she thought with a frown.

      mothpaw
above them the sun crept further into the sky, sifting through thick white clouds. it was a nice day, and judging by the pace of the sun, a long day too. would they train for the majority of the day? his thoughts were broken by the touch of the molly, which lingered. not used to that, mothpaw thought to himself - but he wasn’t really used to socialising in general.
he felt guilty for leaving the pressure of starting a conversation on her, yet he was half glad he did. mothpaw had no clue how to speak to his peers.
“good. i can’t complain, he’s a good warrior and he’s kind to me.” mouse - brained, though.. faircrown was a brilliant mentor however mothpaw couldn’t help but feel as though he relied on his physical strength perhaps too much. the male swallowed, tongue swiping his lips in an unconscious effort to appear neat infront of the female.
“i mostly train alone, i use the trees to climb and practice attacks from above. however it’s important to train with somebody else so that you know where you’re going wrong. otherwise you’ll repeat mist-...” was he really rambling about this? too many words. mothpaw’s face prickled as he shook his head slightly.
“so.. who do you usually hang around with? i’m surprised..” you chose me? “you aren’t already busy.”

as the sun beat on her tan fur, honeypaw embraced the warmth. it was a new feeling, maybe it was the sun making her feel warm inside, or the cat she had begun to talk to. she didnt knkw and didnt care. she gazed at him softly with her amber eyes as she talked about training. she couldnt help but feel a small laugh. "you really will be a good warrior. training will always be an essential part of our lives, even when we become warriors. it never hurts to brush up on that stuff... she said before looking down at her paws, embarrassed slightly. she sounded like a dumb kit and she knew it. she heard hin speak again, and glanced back at him. she had never really thought about any other cats in the way she admired and thought about mothpaw. 'hes just an admirable cat, nothing wrong with admiring him' she thought to herself. quickly she replied to him, "well. if you havent noticed, most cats think of me as a pest. so i dont hangout with others often. besides occassionally talking to bunnpaw and brightnose." she quickly flashed a meek smile, she really sounded like a kit. "but I'm never busy anymore. and we havent really talked since you first became an apprentice. so I decided, what the heck, might as well talk to him." she purred as she pulled her tail close to her body a s curled it around her forepaws.

      mothpaw
although it was cheesy and perhaps even a potential weakness, moth liked the way honeypaw spoke without thinking too carefully. he could practically feel the heat from her face as she spoke, words bordering on kit-like as she spoke what came to her mind. the tom felt a buzz in his head as she spoke of training, complimenting him in the process - she was right. he would be a good warrior, one of the best bearclan had ever seen – and maybe she would be too.

mothpaw never thought much of his kithood. his father had been a rogue and his mother had passed away shortly after his birth. yet he remembered playing with honeypaw as they were kits, along with a few other apprentices too. he remembered her as being bubbly and sweet, sensitive too. the memories were hazy.
strangely, his lack of family had never really bothered him.. the queens cared for him as if her were their own. if anything, he was stronger for it. he had more than one mother figure to make proud.

“strange. i don’t see how you could be a pest.. you seem well mannered..?” was that insensitive? was he supposed to compliment her? what was the correct thing to say,,? “i think you’re kind, and you’re very pretty too. i expected you to be popular amongst the other apprentices.” the tom finished his meal, trying not to linger on the words that came out of his mouth. they were too soft. “some of the apprentices aren’t too nice, though. i’m sure it’s them, and not you.”

Bunnypaw nodded and stretched, yawning slightly before standing up and following her mentor out of the den. She weaved through the camp towards the large sunbathed rock to collect the now dry and crispy chervil. Delicately grasping about half of the dried herb in her jaws, she headed back towards the medicine den. She walked slowly, desperate not to crumble the herbs into dust as she had done before, though with older herbs. Important older herbs, she was sure. Carefully tucking the chervil away in the crevice on the medicine den cave wall, she breathed out a sigh of relief and turned back to her mentor. "Should we go fetch that marigold now?"

Grinning, she nodded and sprang over to a large, flat boulder next to the water. "Tada! Moss!" she meowed loudly, before crouching down, leaning over and hooking her claws underneath the thick sheet of moss. "Good thing it hasn't rained, right?" she chatted amiably as she peeled up the dry, soft moss in clumps and displayed it to her mentor. "Then we'd only have wet moss!"

She patted the moss into a clump, and trotted towards a tree, leaning over the stream. A weeping willow. She sifted through the tree roots for more moss, and quickly found some and harvested it.

The sun had climbed higher than he'd thought, and he began to gather up his fresh-kill to bring back to camp. With a hop and a bounce, he padded back into camp and over to the fresh-kill pile. After depositing his shrew and pigeon there, he chose the plump squirrel he had caught and padded across the camp towards the nursery. He took his time, watching his clanmates talking, preparing to leave, working... He looked in on Ripplesong, snuggled up with her tiny kit feeding at her belly. "Thought you might be hungry," he meowed, dropping the squirrel at her paws.

Jackdawpounce stretched, and began to head home with the patrol, her ears pricked for any sign of threat. But she could only pick up the insistent trill of birdcall, the gentle rippling of the brook, and getting fainter, the sound of twolegs down inside the mountains. Her tail flicked, rustling the grasses that sprouted at intervals throughout the forest. She let out a soft sigh of contentment. The forest was at peace, so she was too. Slowing down, she let the calmness of this morning seep into her. As they got closer to camp, she anticipated when they would be able to relax and stretch out on the smooth rocks near the edge of the cave, which about this time would be bathed with sunlight.

Snapping out of her dream, the molly heard a loud voice coming from near the brook, and sighed, guessing it was an apprentice. Ah well, let them have their fun. It might have been over 20 moons since she was one herself, but that didn't mean she didn't remember what it was like to always be eager and excited to learn and progress to finally be a warrior.

"Look at that. Moss. Thank StarClan!"
Her words were laced with notes of relief that the distraction had worked. Falconstream could see and smell a few different places where the desired greenery was just waiting to be harvested. While Shadepaw set to work on a streamside boulder, Falconstream found her own patch of moss that was growing on a fallen log and began gently, but firmly, clawing it off in as complete a sheet as possible. Keeping the pieces larger would make them easier to carry back.
Falconstream glanced at Shadepaw as the apprentice began speaking again, and nodded approvingly at the clumps of moss she had already gathered. The grey she-cat had almost finished with her own section of moss as well.
"StarClan is watching over us today", she agreed. "But what do you think we would do if the moss was wet?"
Just as Falconstream was finishing her question, a giant, rumbling, booming noise ripped through the air. The ground shook with reverberating vibrations that prompted her to drop instinctively into a crouch to keep her balance, ears flattened against her skull to drown out the noise, and wide-eyed in shock. After a few seconds, the ground beneath her stilled and the air grew quiet.
"W-what... in StarClan's name?"
She shook her head, snapping out of her dazed state and regaining her senses. Her responsibilities came flooding back to her.
"Shadepaw, are you alright?"

Tansyflower

She had scarcely finished speaking when her brow furrowed in confusion and displeasure at the shaking ground beneath her paws. There was no time to puzzle out what could possibly be happening before a roaring, thunderous noise filled the cave. Dust and stones rained down from above, blinding the elder as the sound deafened her. Tansyflower felt a soft pelt pressing into her almost immediately. It had to be Frostpaw. She wrapped her tail around him protectively and lowered her head, trying to protect it from being pelted by any rocks. None of them were large enough to cause any real damage, but it was certainly far from a comfortable sensation.
After a moment of huddling against the cave floor and sheltering one another as best they could, silence settled around the pair. Tansyflower likely looked quite the mess, with her fur puffed out and covered in dust, and her eyes opened wide, pupils narrowed to frightened slits. She had lived a long time, but nothing quite like this had ever happened before. The uncertainty was even more unsettling than whatever had happened just now.
"I've never...", she hissed softly, putting voice to her shock.
Inhaling a lungful of dust in order to speak sent Tansyflower into a short fit of coughing. Frostpaw must have noticed, as he was urging her to accompany him for some fresh air. Tansyflower hesitated as concern for her clanmates' safety flooded her mind, but she knew there was not much an old scrap like herself could do, especially not when she could not even breathe. Wordlessly, she relented, padding as quickly as her stiff joints would allow towards the cave's entrance. She tried to keep her breaths shallow to avoid breathing in any more dust, but still wheezed occasionally as she moved towards the hazy sunlight that guided her away from danger. As soon as she stepped into the light and left the dusty cave behind her, she took in a few deep breaths and gave her pelt a hearty shake that spewed dust every which way. She already felt so much better, but she had no idea about anyone else. Frostpaw was probably worried too, and at least he could do something about it.
"I'm alright, Frostpaw. You did a good job. Now, go on. Make sure everyone's ok."
The urgency in her voice mixed with a purr, made husky from her sore throat, that was somewhere between proud and comforting. He was already showing a warrior's heart during this disaster while he took care of her, and that was to be praised. She was still a bit shell-shocked, herself, but Tansyflower would feel better once she knew that no one was hurt. At least she could keep an eye out for returning patrols. Hopefully, everyone who had ventured away from camp was far away from danger.

( molly ) ( 8 moons ) ( medicine cat apprentice ) ( #brightnoise ) ( camp )

After following her mentor just out of camp and taken a moment to adjust to the change of enviroment as they stepped out into the fresh, green forest, the young she cat was just about to head in the direction of the beds of marigold her mentor had shown her several sunrises ago when the earth split in half.

Or that's what it felt like at least. Bunnypaw crouched low and pressed her paws desperately over her ears as the noise shattered her calm and seemed to burn right through her mind. The ground was shaking, sending painful vibrations right up into her, and even the trees shivered in response to the explosion. Squeezing her eyes tight, she flinched away from her mentor's touch, at a time like this just the simple touch of another cat's tail sent shockwaves through her- it was just all too much.

She curled up tighter before she regained control over her breathing and inhaled shakily, blinking her terrified eyes slowly. Her tail clung to her flank, and the fur along her spine was standing straight up. If a cat could cry, she would be doing so. "Are- are we okay?" she whispered, turning her face to focus on her mentors paws, unwilling to make eye contact while she was still overwhelmed.

She let a smile grace her muzzle, pleased to have found moss. She patted the clumps into a neat pile, and was about to answer her mentor's question, when to her absolute terror there was an eruption and the ground shook more than she had ever felt it before. She let out a wail, dropping into a protective crouch and flicking her ears down, shaking with the ground as the tremors died down. She stood up, regaining her balance and daring to face Falconstream. "What happened?" she asked, her skin paling beneath her thick fur and her eyes wide. Her tail lashed against her hind legs as she stared at the water of the stream- it was vibrating, shivering like a mouse about to be caught. Small waves were rolling across its surface, something Shadepaw had never seen before on the calm water.

Smiling at the queens and kits, Cedarspark settled himself a little way off from the nursery on a smooth rock, ready to clean himself of the forest dirt and mountain dust that had gathered between his toes on his morning hunt. However, as he began he suddenly realized that somehow the cave was ... quivering? A rumble sounded from below like some huge cat was underneath their camp, and suddenly he was being rained on. Dust coated his fluffy pelt like snow to the mountains, and he found himself dashing for shelter as small chunks of rocks fell as well. Crouching under an overhang, he watched with scared eyes as the camp shook for a few second longer and warriors and apprentices alike panicked, when it calmed down and suddenly all was quiet. The camp was silent, the earth even more. And somehow Cedarspark found that silence the worst of all. Then the camp flooded with noise again and he wriggled out of his hiding spot. Moving back towards the nursery he peered in anxiously. "Are you hurt?," he asked Newtcloud, worry snatching the fear from his eyes as he began to process that he wouldn't die - but somebody else might.

The warrior had been daydreaming of their apprentice days, and of relaxing back at camp, when an explosion knocked them off their feet. Rocks seemed to rain endlessly, and the mist was dust, quickly covering their black fur and turning them a dull brown-grey. Their one thought before they blacked out was "that will taste disgusting to wash off."

A few seconds later, though it seemed like moons, Jackdawpounce awoke with pain in every part of their body. They had been pelted with rocks and tossed against the trees, but now they staggered upward and groped through the dust cloud and over the remains of the twoleg camp, huge piles of rubble and even fallen trees until their paws touched grass again. They collapsed, ears ringing, feeling like they would faint. But they shook their head, forcing themself to recollect what they had been doing. What had happened to the rest of the patrol? They couldn't hear any other cat. In fact, they couldn't hear their own breathing. They couldn't hear anything.

..Willowpaw pricked her ears after hearing the explosion. "W-what was that?" She looked around for Ratscar but he went off on his own. Maybe she shouldn't have gone hunting today. Rocks flew from random places, dust coming along with them. "Ratsca-" Willowpaw's words were cut off when a rock hit the side of her face. "Ack!" Willowpaw stumbled back to her feet as the tremors started to die down. Willowpaw couldn't think straight, the pain coming from her jaw was intense. The only thing she could think of was to get back to camp. As she walked slowly though the debris she realized that Ratscar was still out in the open, but she knew that her mentor would want her to go somewhere safe, so she proceeded back, the pain becoming numb.

He was hoping Ripplesong would let him. He raced to the nursery, peeking inside. "Something's happening! Give me Ashkit!" he sneered at Ripplesong, but he was genuinely worried. "I need to help the other cats, incase something bad happened, so let me help you out."

Beewhisker let out a yelp as the ground underneath his paws began to tremble. What's going on? The tom jumped up in shock and quickly darted to one of the walls of the camp. A small rock hit him on the head and he hissed, crouching low until the shaking stopped. What in the name of StarClan...? "Are you all okay?" He called to his classmates, rubbing a paw over his head and wincing. "What just happened?"

Newtcloud watched her kit play with her tail in amusement, chuckling. She looked up to see her mate, and purred, only to yelp in shock as the ground shook. Before she could move, a chunk of rock fell and landed on her kit's leg, and she hissed. She swiped the rock off of her son and hovered over him protectively, wincing as small pieces of debris rained onto her back, more concerned for her kit. After the shaking came to a stop, Newtcloud heard her mate's call. "I'm okay," She called, before checking Eveningkit over. "But Eveningkit is hurt!"

Mousepaw halted at the BearClan border, huffing to themself. They had followed the border patrol out, trying their best to remain hidden. So far, no one except a squirrel had spotted them, and honestly, they wished someone had. They were so bored. Before Mousepaw could say anything out loud, an explosion rung out, and they were met with a rain of rock and dirt.

Blinking, Mousepaw shook their head, desperately trying to clear the ringing from their ears, only to freeze in shock. They were sure their eye was open, but they couldn't see out of their left eye. Lifting a paw, Mousepaw rubbed at their eye, wincing in pain. They pulled their paw away to see blood. No. No, no, no. This can't be happening. I'm fine!

Mousepaw was not fine.

Eveningkit squealed, pouncing on his mother's tail. "Again, again!" He cried, laughing as his mother's fur tickled his nose. So caught up in playing, he didn't realize anything was wrong until his mother yelped. He looked up at her, only to cry out as something heavy landed on his leg. Squeaking, he closed his eyes and tried to get the heavy object off of him. He heard a sound and the rock rolled off of him, and his mother crouched over him. Stilling crying in pain, he felt his mother checking him over a few moments later. Why did the sky fall?
