it depends on the type of fish. i'm not vegan or vegetarian, so i'm completely fine with eating fish. plus, fish are an entire group of animals. it's like asking "are birds friends, not food?" there's so much diversity there. a chicken is a lot better to eat than a budgie simply because there's a lot more meat and they are farmed more easily.
it's the same with different types of fish, there's so much diversity in size, how farmable it is, whether it's toxic to humans, etc. i would eat a trout but i wouldn't eat something like a goldfish unless i was in a very dire situation simply due to the amount and quality of the meat. that applies to every main type of animal.
"birds are friends, not food!!" - chicken vs parrot
"mammals are friends, not food!!" - cow/pig vs cat/dog

i believe this reasoning that an entire class of animals can either be friends or food with no grey area is pretty dumb.
