Streamspot had gone hunting early that morning near the two leg place to make sure a certain scent wasn't in the air. She hadn't caught a whiff of Honey since their last run in on the day of Stagleap's warrior ceremony. She hoped whatever Southstar had said to her was enough to keep the she-cat within the fence-line of her kitty-pet home. She had caught quite a few creatures scuffling about being restless in their hiding places for the leaf-bare. A squirrel, a chipmunk and a mouse. The squirrel and chipmunk had been a good hunt, it took the skills of a trained warrior to catch those bits of prey. But the mouse was a bit of an oddity. It had been out in the open moving slowly. Streamspot had killed it easily and it hardly even seemed to frighten when she pounced on it. Nevertheless she brought it back to camp. Warriors couldn't be passing up fresh-kill in leaf-bare.
She set her prey down as the beginning of the fresh-kill pile that morning. She picked up the mouse, something seemed so odd about the kill, and carried it to sheltered spot in the camp. She dug in and didn't notice any odd taste. She finished her meal and then stretched out enjoying the feeling of the rising sun on her long fur and the quietness of the forest before her clanmates awoke. Suddenly her stomach twisted nauseously. Streamspot sat up and made a bee-line for the dirt-place. She vomited bright green and the rest of her mouse. She went back to her nest her stomach cramping all the way and a sudden wave of exhaustion overtook her. She made it back into her nest hoping no cat would need her for the day. She was not sure she would be much help at all. She curled up in her nest trying to sleep through her painful belly-ache.

Bearpaw wrote:Bearpaw had grown in the two moons. She had lost her kitten fluff and her fur was now that of a sleek warrior. Her muscles were filling out and becoming strong and noticeable beneath her pelt. Her demeanor had become more mature and she did a lot less hopping around. Although her energy stayed. She seemed to have an everlasting endurance, making her always ready for one more patrol and one more round of battle training. She was becoming an efficient hunter and was friendly with almost every cat in the clan.
This morning she had risen early to do a quick solo hunt. Though that wasn't necessarily allowed for apprentices she hadn't been known to follow the rules. She had hardly left camp before she smelled it. Fox! She ducked low and began creeping towards the scent. It wasn't long before she could see the mangy creature. The large red animal was quickly moving in the direction of camp. The kits! She imagined them snuggled up safely in the nursery and she knew she couldn't allow this monster anywhere near them. She exploded from her hiding spot charging at the monster head on. A few moons ago Darkpaw had said that EagleClan apprentices are sent to chase off foxes all the time. If they could do it, so could she. She narrowed her green eyes and leapt at the creature smashing into its shoulder trying to knock it off its paws. The fox took a step sideways and that was all it needed to steady itself. Before Bearpaw had even recovered it picked her off her paws and shook her vigorously side to side. Bearpaw let out a yowl of terror as she felt her flesh being torn. She managed to twist her body and claw at its eyes. The fox let out a snarl and flung her from its mouth. She rolled taking only a heartbeat to gather herself before springing to her paws and running for her life. She left a trail of blood behind her and it was only moments before she heard the fox charging after her.
She was headed towards the open moor that was now pockmarked with openings from the tunnels collapsing. The fox was too fast and she hoped it would be less sure-footed than she on the uneven ground. She streaked across moving in a serpentine fashion hoping to confuse the fox. It worked at first. The fox had to jump across the fallen tunnels and work on planting its heavier body on firm ground, while Bearpaw already knew the best trail to follow. Eventually the quick fox began following her exact path and closed the distance between them. Bearpaw had glanced back and saw what it was doing. Panic welled up in her chest. If it grabbed onto her again she would be done for. Her adrenaline was giving her great speed and helping her avoid her pain but even that would not be enough to keep her going much longer. Up ahead she was approaching the little bit of forest that crossed over the stream that marked OakClan's border with EagleClan.
She dashed through the undergrowth of the forest not bothering to avoid the brambles and thorny branches of the dormant bushes. They scratched her skin stinging but she hardly noticed it in her panic. The fox was right on her heels and she could her it breathing loudly behind her. She saw the stream. The water was moving fast as they'd had rain recently. There was a branch just ahead that would hold her weight but not the fox's if she could make it to there she could get away. She took a flying leap from the bank just as the fox tried to snap its jaws around her. She hit the front of the branch with her chest. Her rear end falling into the freezing water. She lost her breath with the hit and had barely got to gulped one breath in before she looked at the bank to see the fox jumping towards her trying to land on the branch. She released the branch falling back into the water and a second later the fox landed right where she had been smashing the branch in two and falling into the water near her.
Bearpaw struggled back to the surface getting a gulp of air before a wave of water washed over her head again. Panicking she breathed in water only adding to the absolute terror she felt. She fought her way to the surface once more splashing weakly trying to swim and keep her head above water. Thank StarClan I've had been taught how to swim! Even still the water was moving fast and the fox was swept downstream past her. The water around Bearpaw was turned orange from her own spilt blood and it seemed like her legs would hardly cooperate to move. She was hit from behind by a piece of the branch and plunged underwater once more. She swam back up grabbing the branch with her front claws and clung on. She shook her head now throbbing trying to shake away the shadows that threatened to cover her vision and sink her into unconsciousness. The branch bobbed with the rushing water closer to the EagleClan's land. She struck out only having to swim a tail length before she could touch land. She dragged herself onto the bank through the mud and collapsed with only her head and chest out of the water. She gave in to the dizzying blackness crowding her vision. The last thought she had as she faded was, Will I see StarClan when I wake?

OakClanTiny snowflakes drifted down from the sky and settled onto Riverstripe's pelt as he emerged from the warriors' den. His breath billowed out in small clouds in the chilly morning air, and for a moment he sat there, unsure what to do. He knew he could always go out and hunt by himself, as Tigerblaze sometimes did, but he still always preferred to be sent out by either Blizzardclaw or Beestar. That, and maybe he just wanted to talk to Beestar. It had been two moons since she'd given birth to her kits and subsequently lost a life, but although she and the kits were doing well, it still hurt him to know that she hadn't told him the truth of what had happened during her kitting. He knew she was less likely to talk about it the more time went on, but he still wished that somehow, some way, she would tell him the truth, confide in him, talk to him as a friend and not just as a part of the Clan that she had to lead and protect. But any hope he had of talking to her crumbled when he saw Blizzardclaw make a beeline for her the second she came from her den. 'I'm sure she's told him,' he thought dejectedly. Tail drooping, he stood up and began to pad towards the camp entrance.
I really should stop being so silly and just start going out hunting by myself.Tigerblaze sneezed as he entered camp, a squirrel hanging from his jaws. Its thick coat made it look bigger than it was, but the golden tabby could tell from the feel of it that it was skinny, more fur than actual meat. Still, it was better than nothing. He saw Blizzardclaw standing at the entrance to the leader's den, talking with Beestar, as per usual. Hardly a day went by when the deputy didn't check on the leader first thing in the morning. As he set his squirrel down where the fresh-kill pile usually was, he noticed Jackdawpaw sitting not far off, and made his way over to the younger tom. "Let's go hunting," he said, not wasting his time with formalities. He didn't know how long Blizzardclaw would be talking to Beestar and he wasn't about to wait around to be sent on patrol, not when there was a Clan to be fed. He would have brought his apprentice along earlier, had he not had some business to take care of.
Splashfeather's dream of fresh prey was interrupted by a gentle nudge in her side and she opened her eyes to see Elmshade, who already looked wide awake. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, she nodded and rose to her paws, curling her tongue in a wide yawn. "Sure, that sounds good." Of course she would have much preferred to stay in her nest, where it was soft and warm, but she knew the Clan needed to be fed, especially Creamflower and Beestar with their little ones. "Maybe we can see if Jackdawpaw and Bearpaw want to come too? With either their mentors or their mentors' permission of course." It had only been a moon since she'd moved dens, and although she enjoyed the company of her fellow warriors, especially Elmshade, she still missed her former denmates and liked to hunt or patrol with them whenever possible. She was looking forward to when they moved to the warriors' den with her.
The first thing that popped into Sunflare's mind when he awoke was his mate and kits. Almost instantly he jumped to his paws and trotted out of the den, across camp and into the nursery, where Creamflower lay with their litter of two. His heart melted all over again when he saw them--his son and daughter, covered in fluff from head to toe, beautiful just like their mother, and absolutely adorable. He was a bit surprised to find that Robinwind had beaten him there, but he didn't mind; he wanted the best for his family. "Good morning, Robinwind," he purred, excusing himself as he slipped past the medicine cat to get closer to his mate. "And good morning to you, my dears." His purr only rumbled louder as he nuzzled Creamflower, giving her and each of the kits a lick in turn. "How are my favorite she-cats and tom-kit?"
Dustkit was fast asleep when she heard voices, deeper than her mother's, but still familiar. She opened her eyes and looked up to see two tall cats, one lean and brown, the other large and white. She flattened her ears against her head and let out a squeak of resistance when the large white one licked her head, only burying her face deeper into her mother's belly.
EagleClanIt was the cold leaf-bare air blowing into his den that roused Southstar from his sleep. With a yawn, the tom lifted his head and began to groom his sleep-ruffled pelt. His fur was short, but thick, and it was at times like this that he was grateful it was. Once satisfied, he slowly rose to his paws and slipped out of his den. The light of dawn had just barely begun to peek into camp; the days had grown shorter and the nights longer over the past couple of moons, and he missed seeing the sun up so early. But despite the sun's lateness, many of his Clanmates were already up and about. Guilt pricked him like a thorn when he saw Deertail head straight for the nursery. He still vividly remembered the night Foxcloud had told him what he'd been dreading to hear:
"I'm expecting." It wasn't that much of a shock to him, but still, he had been wishing desperately not to hear those words, not from Foxcloud anyway.
Not after finding out that she already has a mate. He'd hoped there was a possibility that the kits weren't his, but Foxcloud had quickly dashed those hopes when she'd told him that there was no such possibility; she hadn't done a single thing with any tom besides Southstar, not even Deertail at that point. He'd wanted to think she was lying of course. After all, if she was willing to lie to him before, why wouldn't she now? What if she just wanted to make him feel guilty, to lessen her own guilt? But the concern in her eyes told him she was telling the truth, as much as he didn't want to believe it. And although it had been two moons, he'd still held a bit of a grudge against the she-cat ever since that night in the lavender field. The possibility of Deertail finding out, of the Clan finding out, of the things they had done in the dark being brought to light plagued him on a daily basis, and yet there was nothing he could do about it. He doubted the ginger queen would tell Deertail willingly, but what if he became suspicious? Would she lie even more, or tell the truth? If the latter, how much of it would she tell? Would she simply mention having been with another tom, leaving him anonymous, or would she out Southstar as the kits' father, wanting him to share in her guilt and humiliation as punishment and ultimately ruining his reputation?
But it wasn't my fault. She lied to me, he reminded himself. He shook his head to clear it. Whatever happened, he would have to deal with it when the time came. Perhaps he'd be lucky and the kits would resemble their mother in coloring, and everything would be fine. He clung to this hope and resolved to put the idea out of his mind, for the time being anyway. He had a Clan to serve. As his gaze traveled over camp, he noticed more and more cats awakening, but one thing stuck out as odd to him: Streamspot's absence. The deputy was normally up before the sun was, and the sun, in its leaf-bare lateness, had already begun to rise.
I guess even Streamspot has to sleep late once in a while, he told himself, not that it was late except by the deputy's own standards. Still, he would check on her, just to make sure. He padded into the warriors' den just in time to overhear the last of Mistflower's words to Quiverheart, "...she didn't look too good after," and turned to see that the older she-cat had pointed her tail at Streamspot, who was asleep in her nest. Southstar frowned as he realized that maybe he'd been right to be concerned after all, but nevertheless greeted the two she-cats with a polite nod. "Good morning, Mistflower, Quiverheart. Is everything okay?" He nodded at the sleeping deputy.
Nightwish wasn't far behind Acornspots as she padded out of her den and over to the apprentices', eager to start training Gingerpaw. The she-cat was her very first apprentice and she'd been hoping to be appointed mentor of one of Reedwhisker's kits anyway, so when it was announced that she'd be training Gingerpaw, she couldn't have been happier. Especially after Reedwhisker had confided in her about his concern for Gingerpaw adjusting to warrior life, she wanted all the more to prove that she could train the young she-cat into one of the best warriors the Clan would ever see. Poking her head into the apprentices' den, she called out, "Gingerpaw! Time to get up!"
Darkpaw had awoken early once again and, after a failed attempt to go back to sleep, had given up and gone to wait outside his den for patrols to be sent out. He wasn't surprised when he saw Deertail go straight from the warriors' den to the nursery.
Checking on Foxcloud again, he thought with disdain. The ginger she-cat was a queen now, two moons pregnant and huge. She looked about ready to burst any day, but Darkpaw didn't care.
He skipped out on me to spend time with her even before she was pregnant. He began to wonder why he'd even been given the ginger-and-white tom for a mentor. If he cared too much about she-cats to even train his own apprentice, then why bother giving him an apprentice in the first place?
That's fine. I don't need him. Standing up, he spotted Goldenrose, who appeared to be looking for something or someone, and made his way over to her. "Morning, Goldenrose."
Littleflower's eyes blinked open at the sound of her denmates' voices. They weren't loud, but she had always been a light sleeper and any noise easily woke her. She didn't rise right away but rather lay in her nest, quietly listening to the conversation between Mistflower and Quiverheart, later joined by Southstar. As she started to fully wake up, she realized they were talking about Streamspot, and slowly lifted her head to glance at the deputy, who was curled up in her nest. Almost instinctively, she nudged Swiftbadger with a paw. "Swiftbadger. Hey, Swiftbadger. You awake? I think something's going on."
Outside the ClanThunder was the first of his sleeping littermates to wake up. He let out a long, wide yawn, stretching his tiny jaws open as far as they would go. His sight was blurry at first, but after blinking a few times it began to clear and he craned his head back to look up at his mother, his dark blue eyes burning into hers.
