"Hey, Deertail," Southstar purred when the tom came into sight. But before he could say anything else, the ginger-and-white tom turned to Foxcloud and, to Southstar's surprise, immediately began doting on her. He was just thinking he hadn't realized how close the two really were, until the word "mate" hit his ears and his heart skipped a bit. Mate? For a moment he wondered if Deertail had just gotten carried away and if Foxcloud would remind him that they weren't mates just yet, but when she didn't, the realization dawned on Southstar like the rising sun. She lied to me. But he betrayed nothing as he turned to Deertail and gave him a friendly nudge. "Ah, congratulations, Deertail! It's about time." He smiled curiously as he asked, "So when did you two become mates?" He saw that Foxcloud had briskly padded ahead, probably in a hurry to get back to camp to avoid too much more conversation on the matter, but Southstar walked at a leisurely pace right alongside Deertail, clearly not in any hurry at all.

Foxcloud had glanced at Southstar repeatedly as she had walked ahead of them as she was growing impatient at the two walking at a graceful pace. She could hear him quite well, he was fishing and it had only been less than the whole day. She was nervous about committing to someone, it wasn't uncommon. The only thing she was at least thankful for was that Southstar hadn't revealed anything to Deertail. Not yet. And hopefully not ever.
"Come on before the sun rises," she called back to them, flicking her tail at Deertail. She knew the tom would of course listen to his mate. Or at least she hoped. She could avoid having the two of them alone until she talked to Southstar perhaps in the morning.

He paused for a moment, unsure of whether or not to share Reedwhisker's secret with Foxcloud. Finally, he decided to tell, as he wanted to trust his mate with everything - besides, it had rattled him too. "Silversnow thinks she's dying. They're heartbroken, and scared..."

Ivypaw watched the handsome tom go to the fresh kill pile. Ivypaw smiled softly as she waited for his return. She saw him come back with a fast mouse and her stomach growled and she chuckled. She sat down with her fluffy tail curled over her paws as she waited. She knew it was forbidden.. but maybe.. just maybe.. she was falling for the black tom.

"Foxcloud would never hurt me so badly." Deertail's words rang in Southstar's ears as he padded after the tom. Guilt stabbed his heart like claws, and he tried to push it away by telling himself that it wasn't his fault--it was Foxcloud's. She had been the one to lie to him. She had flirted back with him despite having a mate. Perhaps he shouldn't have been so careless...but how was he to know? But the deed was done and there was nothing he could do about it now, except hope to StarClan that this one foolish act between two cats wouldn't give birth to new cats. He was too distracted to catch any of Foxcloud and Deertail's conversation as he walked along, with camp not far out of sight now.
