"Things were not always they were now." the kalon looked solemnly down at the field of flowers, brushing her hand across them. Her eyes seemed to hold a far away gaze, staring deep into the abyss of a memory that wasn't quite there. Her brows knitted together, her hand clenched into a fist, squeezing until her knuckles turned white. "Things were difficult. We always had just enough to scrape by." The kalon paused, her face softening for a moment, her heart feeling a little lighter than before.

"The kids," she paused, unclenching her hand and allowing it to rest on the ground near by herself, "Their smiles always lit up my heart." A breeze blew past, her disposition now changed entirely.

"Hearing them call me Mama. Their laughter like little bells in the wind." The house was never quite big enough for all of the children. "There were so many to feed... but they always knew they had a place at my dinner table. There were so many tireless nights where I would stay awake, making sure their clothes were hemmed, sewn back together, or even given some of them the clothes off of my own back." She seemed bitter for a moment, a frown finding it's way to her face. "I grew up as unfortunate as some of the souls who made their way into my casa. I never for a moment knew what it was like to have a mother's love, but I made sure those children knew they had a mother who loved them."

"Our house always needed repairs, and somehow I learned how to do a little bit of everything to keep the small place afloat." The frown vanished as she seemed somber again. "They took the house, the children. They took everything I had from me. The life I had worked so hard to give them was gone faster than I could blink." Tears stung at her eyes as she remembered seeing their hearts breaking in front of her.

"Some of them came with me, to start a new life on the road. Everyone has a place." With her right hand she plucked a flower from the earth, looking into it's petals. She stared out into the field now, the flower still between her fingers, "It's not much of a home, but it's a family."

    "Home?"

Frannie's face softened, and she had a faraway look in her eyes. "It's not so different from this, really," she murmured, gazing around at the lush field. "I might be living in the city now, but the country still has my heart. It always will. I'm always gonna be that lil farm girl.

I was born out in the country. Raised on a farm, where all I knew was the rolling hills and the biggest sky you ever did see. So many clouds, stretching out forever, and so many stars in the sky...you don't get stars like that in the city. Y'all would have seen a lot of skies in your travels, but I'll tell you what, I think mine would be the best. My home is a special place. Wide open spaces and the wind in your hair. The city is so...cramped. All these cars and roads and buildings. You get that, right? The need to have space and fresh air? That's where I'm happy.

We raise goats on the farm. Cheeky little beggars, they are. Always poking their nose in to other people's business, and giving you a nudge when it's feeding time. They're sweet things, really, when you catch them on a good day. They love sunshine and sleeping and a full belly just like we do. And once they're born, this is their home. We never sell 'em, and certainly never send them away for eating. No, you can do a lot more with those little gold mines.

We use their wool to make material for clothes. A lot of people believe cashmere only comes from sheep, and they'd be wrong. Their milk is so versatile, too; you can drink it, flavor it, turn it into cheese. Heck, we're making ice cream out of it too. That's the newest business venture, and that's why I'm living here now. We've got a shop in the city - only a few months old, mind you - but we're doing rather well. I'm like the face of the farm, meeting customers, promoting the place. It's quite fun, actually, and I visit home when I can, but one day I'll go back there permanently."

She let out a little sigh, a hint of sadness in her voice as she spoke, but then she gave herself a shake. "The city isn't all bad though! There's always something fun, something interesting going on. It gave me the opportunity to meet you, after all!"

"My father always used to say "Back when I was a kit, we didn't have steam machines and those freaky singing robots you see in that favorite restaurant of yours!"
And it's true; this world has changed quite a bit since that fancy gentleman – ah, his name escapes me – made steam power popular.
Now we have steam powered horses, big airships that look like a regular ship but in the air... (And with that, of course, came the pirates that my daughter is so fascinated with.)

Recently, however, some electrick 'magicians' (or whatever they call themselves) have started appearing... It's quite interesting; they seem like they can generate electricity just by themselves! Ahah, I'd be lying if I said I don't want to know more, but family comes first, of course.

One thing though that concerns me about how things are going here is the state of the Shaded District... It's been awfully quiet there, not even my husband heard a thing from his friends and acquaintances who live there. I don't know, it might just be me, but I fear if they finally decided to rebel then what I could do to protect our kits... Ah, but I'm probably just worrying too much... But then, what if–

Oh dear, shush now, me! Hahah, just look at me, bringing down the mood! Excuse me, I really didn't mean to.
It's just... I finally have everything that... truly makes me happy, you know? An amazing husband, two beautiful kits, my father, the big house we live in... I just hope nothing serious will happen that would threaten my family, especially not a rebellion.
But this is all I know of the news and gossip that goes around in Ichorhaven!
Let's hope for a better future, hm?"

Abrashio (2)

Ah...Mel... You see I was born a pezent in a kingdom across the ocean. My birth family was unable to care for me and my sister decided to offer me to our king. When my family was told that he wouldn't take the child my family asked if he knew anyone that would. The king ordered a message out to the queen across the ocean. The king asked if she wanted to help the poor family out and she gladly agreed!

"Queen Stella eager to help the family and give the son a better life Stella personally traveled across the ocean to pick up her new adopted son up. She promised the family he would have a good life and when he was older she would offer him to come back and meet his original parent's. She gave the family her blessing and took the small child back on the ship with her. Her and her royal crew headed back across the ocean to her kingdom when suddenly half way home a freak storm struck. Large waves crashed on the boat spinning it and throwing it around until it crashed into mako island. When their boat crashed Abrashio was separated from his new royal family. The queen searched for him until her boat was fixed and with a heavy heart she was brought back to her kingdom to continue her ruling over the land. She ordered her guards to go back and search for the boy but they never found him.

Abrashio cold and alone just a pup crash landed on a island. It was cold and dark and it didnt help any that his fur was soaked. Abrashio cryed out for his mother but his crys fell on deaf ears. Abrashio crawled to a small overhang where the earth met the sand. Abrashio slept for what felt like days. He wasnt sure how long he had been missing but he knew he was hungry, thirsty and weak Abrashio crawled out of his hiding spot and shakily walked up to a small pool of ocean water as he leaned down to take a drink the tiny kit was struck in the side by a large fish like creature. Abrashio cryed out for help as the creature attacked him again this time Abrashio hit his head knocking him out cold. Abrashios screams were cut short. His final crys were heard by the only other humane living soul on the island he was taken in by Mercel and Tina who fought off his attackers. Being incredibly sick Mercel created a potion for him to drink, it healed him but also altered his mind slightly. Abrashio not remembering any of this he grew up on mako island with Mercel and Tinal. Mercel and Tina became his adoptive mothers and raised him as one of their own. As he grew Mercel knew he would have to go home sometime or another and after years of filling his head with "everyone outside of the island is a wicked kalon and would eat you in a heart beat" she took him to her cousins house outside the castle. Mercel ran when he wasn't looking leaving him in her cousins unknowing care. As time passed and he grew older he became more adventurous meeting a young kal named Desmon. Desmon brought Abrashio with him into the castle to take care of the sick animals he had found, but when the guards spotted Abrashio the rushed him away from desmon taking him up to the queen. Abrashio was so ecstatic to meet his mother once more. Days passed in his new life style and he realized that he hadn't seen his friend in a while so he went looking for him. Abrashio found Desmon AMD apologised for leaving him and over the next few years the two fell in love. Desmon is now Abrashios prince and they have two kids and the four now live happily ever after up in queen Stella's castle raising their young."
