Eddie Brock — Venom

Joker smirked and looked away at Their compliment. Clearly he also had the hero’s humbleness, saying something about how ‘he wouldn’t be much of a thief’ if he didn’t watch his surrounding. The use of ‘thief’ was interesting. Joker had described himself as something similar to a vigilante or anti-hero before, and now he nonchalantly called himself a thief. Venom caught a whiff of fear on the teen, too, so it was most likely a slip-up. What was he stealing? Maybe he stole back people’s possessions from burglars like a modern day Robin Hood, or perhaps he stole evidence and turned it over to the police. Or heck, maybe he was just a regular thief by day and fought villains by night. Who the heck knows? It doesn’t matter anymore, not while they’re trying to survive in this place. There are no laws here, only Their own moral code. They will do Their best to keep as many people safe and alive as possible, no matter who they are or what their past is.
Venom nodded and followed Joker out of the building. With Their size and strength They moved around the rubble faster, but let Joker take point. Venom extended Their senses out, taking in as much as They could. Because of that Joker’s next words gave Them a bit of a shock and they refocused.
Oh, right. Yeah, Their appearance was...Venom hoped to stay bonded with Joker around. The kids nonchalance to Their well,
alien appearance was such a relief. Eddie and V
loved being Venom. It just felt the most
right. Not to say their day-to-day lives as two separate beings didn’t feel right, because it did, but existing as one being was heaven on earth. Living together was like a slightly smaller heaven, and being separated was hell.
Joker was right, though. Venom looked like a monster and very few people would ask questions before attacking. Being bonded put three lives at risk, and neither Eddie or V were selfish enough to ignore that. Venom sighed, “
You're right. We can be separate. We can search that way, too”.
The smooth surface of black ripples and shrunk, losing two whole feet in seconds. Eddie’s form came in to view, seeming to rise up from some great black sea that flowed into his veins. The mass around his head stayed outside and reformed into a smaller head attached to Eddie’s right shoulder. V formed their face and stuck out their tongue at him. Eddie smiled at the childish teasing, a common attempt of theirs to make him smile, “Hey there. Gonna stick outside?” He asked.
“
Yes.” V replied. Their voice was deep, but not as gravelly as Venom’s, “
Have to keep Eddie and child safe. You suck at that.”
Eddie didn’t even bother to argue. He really did suck at staying safe. Without V he probably would have died a dozen times over. He smiled and continued walking. V kept watch, their tongue extended to scent the air. Eddie was able to taste what V did, but so far all he got was dust, pavement, old rusted cars, Joker, the dead cat, and plants. Hopefully the pickings were good elsewhere.
