Sunflare nodded, feeling a bit better at his mate's words. He was lucky to have such a hopeful and positive she-cat, not to mention brave. As a tom, having kits held no risk for him. But for a she-cat, it wasn't so easy, and yet she seemed to be less worried than he was. If she's not worried, then I won't be either, he decided. "Congratulations again, Beestar," he purred to his leader. "We'll let you rest now, but just call if you need anything." He dipped his head to the leader before padding out of the den, his tail around Creamflower.
Tigerblaze blinked slowly, seemingly musing over what to tell his apprentice. Finally, he answered, "The injuries we saw were unlike any I've ever seen from a cat before. I've been in many battles and seen many deaths, and none were as gruesome as that--unless they was caused by a predator, such as a dog or a fox. Even the most aggressive warriors I've fought against haven't left wounds like that, so unless we have good reason to believe EagleClan is responsible, we shouldn't assume they are. There are numerous other explanations that seem far more likely, such as the possibility that foxes or badgers or even stoats have made their home in those tunnels. If it was a cat, it would have had to be an especially brutal cat, perhaps a rogue. But even most sane rogues wouldn't tear apart their enemies so completely." He stared straight ahead, his gaze unreadable. He had assumed it was a predator up til this point, and he still thought it was the most likely explanation, but now a new thought entered his head: Had it been a threat? Had the cat's body been left there to rot because whoever had done it had known a patrol would pass by and see it? But he couldn't say such a thing to his apprentice. It was then that EagleClan scent hit his nostrils and he turned to see the patrol, led by Southstar, enter the gathering area. Turning back to Jackdawpaw, he finished, "In any case, we shouldn't assume the worst of them with no proof. Put the idea out of your head for now, and remember what I told you, about not letting a word of it reach their ears." Without waiting for a response, he padded over to join Blizzardclaw to greet the EagleClan party.
"Gatherings can be a bit overwhelming," Splashpaw mewed in response to the black tom, touching her tail to him comfortingly. "But don't be nervous. Everything will be fine." As the words left her mouth, she noticed that Ivypaw, too, looked a bit anxious. Padding over to the medicine cat apprentice, she gave her a nuzzle. "What's wrong, Ivypaw?"

"You could always discuss their mentors with Southstar," Nightwish suggested. Part of her wanted to request one of the kits as her own from the leader, but at the same time, there was something special about being chosen to mentor an apprentice without expressing that you wanted to. It meant the leader saw something worthy in you. Noticing that Reedwhisker looked a bit worried, Nightwish tilted her head. "Is everything okay?"
Southstar shot his deputy a sheepish look. "Guilty as charged." He walked calmly and confidently into the clearing, flanked by Streamspot and Foxcloud. He followed his deputy's gaze to Blizzardclaw, and, glancing around, saw no sign of Beestar. "Looks like you may be right," he murmured to Streamspot. "She was expecting, wasn't she? She may be too close to kitting." He kept his voice low so as not to let the OakClan cats hear as Blizzardclaw approached with his apprentice to greet Mistflower and hers. Southstar waited for the two to speak a bit, not wanting to interrupt, before padding over to the OakClan deputy. "Evening, Blizzardclaw," he greeted the silver tabby, dipping his head respectfully. "Are you here in Beestar's place tonight?"
Littleflower laughed. "Oh, I got over Reedwhisker moons ago! But you know, maybe a little forbidden OakClan-EagleClan romance isn't such a bad idea after all." Her eyes glinted playfully. "Maybe we should get you a pretty OakClan she-cat too, eh? Look, there they are now!" Her tail lifted higher as they entered the gathering place and the OakClan cats came into sight. "Huh..." she mewed, glancing around curiously. "I don't see Beestar anywhere, do you?"
