Snowstorm had seen the pup with Flarepaw before.She had thought of going over to introduce herself but figured the poor pup might be a bit nervous if too many dogs crowded around him. She turned to her soon to be hunting companion and friend. “Poor thing looks a bit nervous. I guess being a pup he would be. But still I’m curious how Flarepaw came to find him out in the forest.” She whispered so the only one who could hear was Spottedfeather.

With Needlefang

Needlefang did a better job of hiding her uneasiness, but Rive could tell that something was bothering her. She assumed it was the outpackers. Well, Velvetstar had just changed them from outpackers to ShadowPackers, but Rive had a hard time thinking of them that way so soon. Rive stood, nodding in acknowledgement of Needlefang's need for quick action.
"Ok, let's do it."
Rive was eager to keep helping Needlefang as long as she could remain useful, but she was also glad for any excuse to find a nice, dark corner to hide out and avoid the newcomers. It was hard to find a darker corner than the subterranean one she had been working on all morning. Those twin motivations were enough for Rive to forget for a moment about rank-based etiquette and think of Needlefang as a true equal, rather than someone she needed to submit to.

The reception to the wolfdog's decision was less than warm. Chuckling, she shrugged and barked, "Fair, honestly. You may resume your previous activities now, but just remember: Until this marvelous pair of dogs prove themselves -" she cast an uninhibited glance at Hawk, or Hawkfeather, as he was now called, "you have every reason to remain...curious." Just as she was about to hop down from the Twisted Rock, she noticed a small shape, a little ways back from the rear of the dispersing crowd. It was a pup, but not one of theirs; a stranger. Her head cocked in her curiosity. Before she leaped down from the Rock, she turned her head to ensure her to-be hunting companions, Snowstorm and Spottedfeather were still around. They were, so she thumped to the short grass, satisfied, and made her way over to Flarepaw and the strange pup. Grinning broadly, she loomed over the pup, sniffing him with no hesitation, before she sat down to make herself appear less huge. "What's this? Have twigs become more valuable than fresh-kill?" she teased towards the closest dog, Flarepaw, in a questioning voice.

"Gee, you are so perceptive," the pup remarked gleefully, sarcasm edging the words. "But that's no way to greet old friends! And I'm a friend to your Pack...or at least, like, some of it. I guess that, if you're new, then there's a chance that -" There was a pause in her teasing when she noticed that the male was shifting around, a bit more than she was okay with while her companion was isolated. Wanting to keep her advantage, and not fearing him knowing that, she followed into his chosen direction to the best degree that her branch allowed. It protruded from its tree at an angle just a smidge too wide to hang directly over the male, but, from studying the distance between herself and the ShadowPacker, as well as factoring in her superb jumping ability, she knew that she could, at the very least, still stun him with a startlingly close landing if they needed extra time to escape. Her ears flicked at the sound of distant, muffled voices. "More friends?" She looked back down at Fawnfoot, composed despite the threat. "Okay, look, you're probably going to ignore everything I say because you're a ShadowPack dog but I'm gonna say it anyway because I want to be able to say that I tried reasoning: We're literally just passing through. We don't want to start anything...that much."

Needlefang returned to her den and continued excavating it. “We’re not going to tell anyone about this until asked. I don’t want you to get in trouble for lying so it’ll be a case of if they don’t notice it good, if they do it just got finished and it slipped our minds. Give them no reason to suspect us. We aren’t doing anything wrong, we’re just being cautious.” She said quietly.

Dawnpaw stepped forward, cautious, ears perked and sniffing. Then, deciding she couldn't bear it anymore, the medicine dog apprentice began to move forward, still trying to listen. We don't want to start anything... much. The voices were getting clearer. Exactly, we're just passing through. Two voices, two different dogs. They both sounded somewhat... young. And perhaps somewhat naive for 'just passing through' Shadowpack territory. Dawnpaw had always despised her packs' reputation for cold, bloodthirsty monsters who attacked dogs without reason. Then she spotted Fawnfoot, pacing up and down, keeping his eyes fixed on a tree... She glanced up and blinked. There was a dog. In a tree.
Protect the one who leaps, protect the one who's pack is no more.

The once light trembling of the small pup turned to full-body shudders, his hair standing on end. Velvetstar was huge compared to Whisper and her grin was full of large canines that intimidated him. "H-hello, ma'am. My name is W-whispering." His small voice trembled out as he bowed his head down. Whisper didn't raise his eyes in fear of potentially offending the Alpha.

If it was nearly anyone else so diligently warning her to be cautious and secretive, Rive would have been skeptical, but Needlefang was a different story. Not only was Needlefang a trusted friend, but she also had StarPack on her side. Those were enough reasons for Rive to convince her of the truth in the medicine dog's words.
"They won't hear it from me."
Rive's resolute promise almost surprised her. It seemed to slip from her jaws without thinking. She did not hesitate long, and instead set to work assisting in the excavation as she had been before Velvetstar had called her meeting. Needlefang's sense of urgency, coupled with the arrival of those strangers, left Rive with a sense of unease. Normally, she would have looked on passively, but with a task to channel her feelings into, Rive felt empowered.
"How far will this thing go, anyway?"
Rive paused briefly to swipe her tongue across her lips in an attempt to brush the dirt out of her whiskers. All the while, she kept her voice lowered.
"This could take awhile... I doubt anyone but Thornheart would even notice I'm missing, but...
She trailed off, resuming digging while letting her thought hang in the air, leaving the rest to Needlefang's imagination.

Who are those dogs? she thought as the scent of others overwhelmed her. "Oh, Starpack," Applefrost whispered breathlessly when she followed the medicine dog apprentice to where the warrior and the other dogs were. She glanced around in confusion for the second outsider until she followed Dawnpaw's gaze to the tree and stared wide-eyed at the dog that had clambered up there. Applefrost saw that the outsider was a doggiepet according to the collar.

She narrowed his eyes when the Velvetstar let the two dogs join then pack, so far she has nothing against Spotted or Spottedfeather for now, but the male looked a little bit suspicious, but so far she kept her thought to herself, not wanting to judge him for no reason.

She looked at the pup then at Velvetstar "He is a lost pup, which I found...I thought it could be safer for him if I took him to the camp than leaved there to be eaten by something" she said with a sight. She then frowned remembering that she kind of leaves the camp herself, but by now she could really find any excuses for that, maybe the pup was just lucky than she did so.
