It's fantastic for the lore! If you're not good with third person shooter games, watching
the movie version is a good substitute. I think it doesn't include all the optional lore and stuff though, so you'd have to go back and look at that elsewhere.
It takes place between DR1 and DR2, so it's a good look at what the world was like during The Tragedy, and we do get to see two Remnants of Despair (though one is only briefly) as they were while wreaking havoc. There's also a ton of characters related to DR1 characters!! And Touko gets some much-needed character development. We learn a lot about her home life (her moms, her pet stinkbug, the trauma that led to her dissociative identity disorder, etc) and her friendship with Komaru is so pure. (gentle sobbing)
Overall, I think it's a great game, but you should definitely keep your comfort zone in mind, because it's easily the darkest of the DR games, dealing heavily with subjects like child abuse.
edit: i'm removing the trigger warning list because i don't want to risk breaking cs rules, but it's worth looking up what the game contains if you have any specific triggers
Anyway, so! I loved udg, and highly recommend it if you've got the stomach for it. If you're not an actiony-shooter-game type person, you can watch it played (the controls are wonky and it's a tough game). :3
