As Dunlinfur padded across camp in search of his apprentice, he noticed Worldender laying by himself. It seemed the tunneler had not moved since Gorsefoot's promotion to beta, and that was good for Dunlinfur. The last time he had seen Deerpaw was at that very event, so if anyone had seen where he had gone, it would be Worldender.
"Worldender, g'mornin'", he barked with a friendly tail-wag as he approached. "Have you seen Deerpaw? I was gonna go wool hunting with 'im, but I've gotta find 'im first."
Dunlinfur chuckled his amusement at his own comment while he waited to receive any information the short-legged crossbreed had to share.

Worldender

The small golden mix had barely stretched his front paws in front of himself before he was being approached. He glanced over and lowered his drooping ears even more, if possible, to show his respect. "Oh, yes, I do believe that I saw Deerpaw head towards the medicine den." He mused and gestured his head to the side, in the direction of the den he had seen the apprentice slip through. "Hope he's feeling alright. I have noticed he's been...a bit distant, lately." Worldender took a quick sniff, the fresh scent of the apprentice still on the air.

After he arrived in the medicine dog den, he noticed that Dunlinfur wasn't there. Deerpaw peeked his head out of the entrance and saw his mentor with one of the warriors. "Hello, Dunlinfur. How are you doing, Worldender?" he murmured as he approached them at a slow trot and tried to gauge their emotions.

With Worldender and Deerpaw

Dunlinfur noticed Worldender's gesture of submission in pulling his floppy ears back to the extent he was able, but he chose to ignore it. While Dunlinfur appreciated the sentiment at its heart, he preferred more casual interactions. Formalities and pleasantries just seemed like unnecessary wastes of time that caused delays in getting to the real meat of an interaction.
The Aidi's ears pricked up at the mention of Deerpaw's name and he glanced over his shoulder at the medicine den almost without thinking, tail-tip wagging optimistically. As Worldender continued to speak, however, Dunlinfur turned back to face his packmate. His eyes narrowed with concern at the mention of Deerpaw acting strangely.
"Oh?"
Suddenly, Dunlinfur realized that, after his adventure yesterday on ShadowPack territory, Deerpaw had been left alone for some time. Perhaps something had happened to his apprentice while they had been apart, and he resolved to try to learn what that might be while they were out today.
Before Dunlinfur could inquire further, however, it seemed Deerpaw himself had approached. He greeted the younger male with a tail-wag, wiping all concern from his face to be addressed later. Deerpaw's soft speech indicated that perhaps something was indeed distracting him, but talking about potentially sensitive things in the open like this with no warning was not likely to be productive.
"Ah, Deerpaw, I was just lookin' fur ya. Sorry for the slow start this mornin'. I had some things to take care of with Stagstar."
He stopped himself there, allowing Worldender a chance to respond before he launched into his plans for the day. Deerpaw had spoken to him as well, after all.

Stagstar watched his pack proudly, his feeling of security slightly less secure-feeling then before, but it felt good that he was doing something about it, and with the gathering so close, he felt as though things would be done soon. Hmmm... maybe I was a tiny bit hypocritical back there with Dunlinfur. After all, he's not the only dog neglecting the moonly moon-rock trips. I should be going too, especially in times like this. Or, at least I should be reaching out to Starpack more.

She smiled a soft, guilty smile and replied, "I've kept you waiting long enough, haven't I? I really am sorry. Let's fetch the apprentices." She turned away and bunched her muscles, preparing to run. She halted, though, as she noticed the apprentices actually weren't too far away. Curiously, they were talking to Gorsefoot, presumably the new beta. She chuckled a little, remarking to Songbreeze while she pushed down with her paws to stand up straight, "Well, I found them!"

Songbreeze sighed exasperatedly, though a smile was fighting it's way onto her muzzle. She padded towards the three dogs, and ducked her head politely at Gorsefoot. "Congratulations, Gorsefoot," she said with a slightly teasing tone, though the moorrunner meant it whole-heartedly. "Cloudtuft and I need those two miscreants for a bit of scouting." Songbreeze wagged her tail a bit, and flashed Spottedpaw and Patchpaw a small smile to show that she wasn't mad anymore. Well, maybe she was still annoyed a little bit (they having delayed eating and sleeping for virtually no reason the night before), but it wasn't important right now.

Her stomach growled with hunger, as Whiteleg lifted up her head. She had slept most of the past day, and she couldn't remember eating anything. Realizing that there was no point trying to remember she simply shrugged her shoulders and laid her head down on the soft moss, Whiteleg felt sleepy more than tired so she dozed off again.

EmberTail Walked around the warm nursery in the traditional sleep circle and lay down. The pups would be here soon. Her stomach was growing and stretching almost to the max. Resting her head on her paws, she closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
