He's gone since yesterday

Yesterday my best friend died in my hands. It was unexpected, he was doing so well until i found him lying in the middle of his cage, unresponsive and cold. He was still alive, so I kept him warm and as comfortable as I could before he passed. I saw his body tense, like he was giving his last effort at life, and then go limp. I was on the phone with my vet mentor when it happened. I felt so helpless, he was fighting something that I had no idea was there until it was too late. I don't even know what caused his death. My little Remington, rest easy my precious boy. I love you.
