Kalon Name: Lionel
Kalon gender: male
Story Setting/AU:
Lionel’s world of residence would be my modern fantasy au: a universe very similar to our own, but with another ‘side’ to reality: immortal spirits and powerful beings, lurking out of sight, sometimes helping, and other times harming or annoying mortals. Not many are aware of their existence- though there are s good many who suspect.
Lionel is one of those suspicious ones. He is a detective by trade, though when business is slow he dabbles in conspiracy theories and sniffing out the hidden truths in folklore. He is immensely curious about the concept of hidden beings such as deities, reapers, and soul weavers, though his customarily logical way of processing and analyzing things can prove to be both a blessing and a hurdle- enabling him to make connections quickly, but hesitant to accept anything but explicit evidence. Evidence of which there is typically precious little, for the immortals are careful to cover their tracks. No matter. He’ll see for himself, sooner or later. Right after he finishes filing this report on his latest job. And reading this murder mystery novel. And contemplating whether or not his cat might, in fact, be a deity in disguise. (The abnormally bright hummingbird that visited his flower box every day for a month? He’s still not entirely convinced that wasn’t a nature spirit silently judging him)

Kalon Name: Psyche
Kalon gender: female
Valentines day experience:
The threads always seemed to sparkle brighter on Valentines’ day, Psyche had noticed. Perhaps because it was a day celebrating relationships with others, and that caused the incorporeal threads to shine brighter and appear stronger. The mortals couldn’t see them anyways, but it made her own job of untangling them unbearably bright and shiny for a day.
Valentines’ Day was always bittersweet for Psyche. Seeing others happy with their friends and family and loved ones helped to brighten her spirits, but also intensified the ache that came from working alone.
But I’m not alone, she reassured herself, paws straying to her single thread. A soulmate thread. The fact that, in theory, immortal spirits weren’t supposed to have threads of their own hadn’t stopped it from spontaneously appearing one day. Though she hadn’t yet met her soulmate in person, knowing someone was out there, connected to her as she was to them, was a comfort.

Another kalon slipped through the crowd, gliding through as though unseen by the mortals. Her was following a single thread- a shimmering soulmate thread, identical to Psyche’s own.
He tugged the thread gently, feeling the familiar tug of longing. Psyche turned around, slowly.
Their eyes met.
