Yeah, this is where I got stuck. I think a lot of mentions were done using pictures, usually of people's pets which can't be mass searched for using IDs like archive images can. The best alternative I can think of would be to read through threads that may mention pet's rarity tags, and narrowing down the amount of reading you'd have to do by searching for terms like "uncommon" or "rare". The first FTT could be a good one, as long as the posts are from October 09 c;

After digging through old threads for informations on bunnies all days, I kind of started to realize that archive images were generally only used after the beginning of 2010. It seems like the archive was only set up around that time...
It doesn't really work to search within specific rarities (other than uncommon) within individual threads as even for the first FTT "rare" was mentioned so many times that you don't get past January 2010´, so no first rarity proofs, welp.
I think I will have to start a more general search soon and tackle one thread after another and just scroll through those 1000+ pages per thread to look for any rarity mentions. Oh well.

I finally finished and added all very rare+ pets into the
archive! ^-^
None vr+ should be missing! I went through the archive, my collection and CS wiki to be sure, that all pets was posted.
So don't worry to check archive and the names of pets
(beware: some names are a little different or wrote differently than are in cs wiki) to be sure, that you didn't skipped any pet as well if you want. ^-^

Yeah, the archive was Nick's Christmas present to the site in 2009. The images used before that in the old archive were people's pets (mostly Solloby's from memory). So there's zero data from the wayback machine before 2010 unfortunately, or archive image searches. I agree that reading through threads is arguably the "best" way at this point, but oh boi it's the most painful method as well ^^"

Yay, thank you Lufik! I will definitely check to make sure I've got all the VRs up there. When I skimmed through the archive, I didn't find any VRs after 2013 except that rat from the 2016 Space Event. Which is so weird to me! I wonder if that's had any effect of newer players finding it difficult to obtain VRs.

i've just had a thought
so you know how store pets accumulate value in proportion to new players joining the site? and how there's a little member tally at the bottom of the main forum directory?
what if we used the wayback machine to plot some sort of graph showing how people have joined the site over the years? would we hypothetically be able to use that to narrow down how much the store pets have gone up in value since they first went VR? i know the old rarity stats will be out of date now, but it'll give us some sort of vague idea i think.
i've not had any coffee today and i'm probably losing my mind/rambling incoherently at this point but do you guys reckon i could be onto something?

Oh girl I had my fair share of thoughts about that already.
Don't even get me started how I planned and plotted a rarity system that predicted value in terms of new joining members and some average numbers of new inactive accounts per month/year. I even worked out an algorithm and had some test information running on my university server and it was all fine... but it is simply too much information that is missing.
You'd need numbers of how many players join per month (which is sort of doable for now, but very hard to come by for ealier years) and the worst part is finding out how many accounts go inactive and how many are coming back into the system. We have literally ZERO information on that and it's such an important factor to consider that it won't be accurate with some made up data.
When my excitement had died down I also considered how huge the impact of such an agorithm (regarding store pets or even EVERY pet on this site) would have on the community. I seriously think that if we're getting down to the nitty gritty and even calculating rarity values (that's essentially what my code did) that can be plotted on a graph to show us where a pet sits exactly according to rarity, then Tess might as well give us the exact numbers. I think it would destroy alot of fun if we recisely knew how rare a pet is...

Yeah, this is something I've thought of as well. I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to literally count how many Skelebuns there are because technically that's doable. Unfortunately, I think the impact inactive accounts has on rarities is way too difficult to track or even estimate. I read somewhere it counts from six months of inactivity and over, and I know there's a lot of people who go inactive for that amount of time but continuously come back for things like Dec. 18th. It would be so interesting to find out just how much store pets increase their rarity, but for now we'll have to rely on comparative rarity changes. I mean, the fact that the Eat Me/Drink me were "Rare" during a time the UR B-Wolf was "OMGSR" puts it into perspective a little bit.
