This is a suggestion simply going off my Sisters partners cat, Jacan, as they said they had to try different foods or she'd have tummy trouble.
I'll try to post some pics of brands she was given and was fine with.
Image
She'd be given these as a treat in the kangaroo flavor. We were also getting the regular size packs for Misty, sand Jacan was fine eating any of the flavors.

Image
We were giving this brand to my cat Misty, sensitive tummy Jacan came along and ate some, there were no ill effects, and she'd get super excited to have a serve. (I think Jacan liked this though as we'd get different flavors, as her owner would get the same flavor all the time of the Optimum below.)

Image
This is the main brand Jacan was getting, her tummy and poop improved, and she was fine.

Hopefully this is helpful. Suggestions through experiencing a cat with tummy troubles, and finding these brands her poops were regular.
-------------------------
Thanks to non stop rain last night I've got a poop mess to clean up, Misty is almost 18 years old, I guess it was too wet and she couldn't hold it. She usually just waits for a break in the rain and pops out her cat door, and does her thing before the rain starts heavy again. No she doesn't mind rain, if it's not too heavy she actually sits in it for a while sometimes.

Gary used to eat grain free, he would eat Fromm. but would still have runny, sour poop. the vet did not really dismiss my "can cats have IBS?" and just checked for germs and parasites

I can see how he does on the food of blue buffalo sensitive. otherwise the easiser to find is Hills. that will give him less offensive solid poops. but giving him 5 temptations 3 meow mix temptations makes it like pudding, and might as well of given him cheese or turkey cold cut.

he used to be indoor-outdoor, but now with 3 legs, he can't without a restraint. so I need to distract him from running out the door.

he also makes sounds when he poops. vet knows, "hey when Gary has is sour pudding poops he seems to cry when doing it? what is up with that?"

hi, all!
I don't have much experience with cats, but I'm posting here because I just gotta tell someone!

There is a very small black cat (kitten?) stuck in a pine tree outside my apartment complex. There aren't any branches that are low - this cat is easily 40ft high! The local animal control is closed until Monday, so hopefully they can help get him/her down if they're still stuck by then. It's such a small kitten, it took forever for us to spot it at night - used a flashlight, followed the "meows" and found the eyeshine. It was there all night and now it's still there this afternoon...

If yall have any ideas on what to do, let me know! I googled quite a bit, but most sources say to simply let it be if you can't reach it - and it will either get too weak to hold on and fall down, or it will get hungry/thirsty/desperate enough that it will try to climb down.

There are a lot of stray cats in my area, so it likely doesn't have anyone looking for it, and it rained all night last night. 😞 We thought about trying to sling a rope over a branch close to it, and use it as a pulley with a bucket and some tuna inside, so that maybe it would smell the tuna and jump in the bucket? But I'm afraid throwing something up near it would spook it and make it climb higher... D:

    the poor thing! :c
in my opinion, the bucket is probably the best idea until animal control can come, given that the poor lil' kitty is probably very hungry even if it is spooked away at first it'll likely be food motivated and be intrigued by the scent. i really hope they get down safe !! and thank you for caring for it <3

We ended up going with the bucket tactic - and thankfully, kitty didn't move any farther up! My husband was the one throwing the rope, (with a weight on the end for leverage) and he managed to get it a few feet lower than where the kitten was hunkered down. The rain is coming down again now, so hopefully it takes the bait before the bucket gets too much water in it! In hindsight, we probably should have put a hole or two for draining purposes, but oh well...

Although, if we do catch the cat, I don't know what we're going to do with it - we have a dog and she loves cats, but she loves to play chase, and I don't think that would go over well with a kitten that was scared enough to bolt 30-40ft up a tree. 😅 I don't even have a dog kennel or anything to put a kitten in overnight because she stays loose when we leave the house (a good girl 🐶) . Hm... maybe a trip to Petsmart will be in order? c:

In my experience, even dogs that like chasing cats somehow know to be gentle with kittens. It would be best to separate them for at least a while though, just to make sure the kitten doesn't have fleas or anything else it might pass to the dog, and to make sure its actually strong enough for such interaction.
As for why it might be up the tree, it's possible that it wasn't out of fear. Climbing is an instinct for cats, and going up is obviously much easier and less dangerous than going down. So it likely just came across a tree and something made it decide to climb, without considering that it would also have to get down. Point being, it might not be a scaredy-cat at all, but there's no way to know for sure until you spend some time with it.
So for now, make sure you have some kitten food (and maybe cat milk replacer, if it looks super young, don't feed cow milk to kittens, it can give them diarrhea!!), somewhere to safely enclose it, like a room thats easy to clean, some blankets you wouldnt mind getting dirty, a litterbox, a bowl for water, and some unscented dish liquid to wash the kitten, as it will probably be very dirty, and possibly have fleas (but if you do wash it, make sure to stay away from the ears and eyes and nose/mouth, a fine-tooth comb is better for those areas).

even when Gary had four limbs, he would poop near the edges of a clean litterbox. is he just weird? It makes me feel kind of guilty and sad to use plastic liners, but it makes cleaning up easier.

does your cat(s) do this?

Maybe he doesn't like the kind of litter you use?

Cats can do this for many different reasons. I would try changing the litter - some don't like the feeling/texture of it. If your cat is declawed (not very common anymore thankfully, so I'm assuming its not) sometimes the litter can be painful under their paws, since they don't have claws. Another reason is it could be behavioural. If there's any change happening, he could be stressed. If the litterbox is positioned right next to a busy area of the house, your cat may not want to go because there's a lot going on right there. If you recently got the cat, it may just be uncertain/unsure of the new litterbox still, since its a big change for the cat. Or it could be territorial, but from what I've learned this has more to do with cats peeing around the house, not pooping right outside the litterbox. Feel free to message me if you need any advice, I love talking about cats. Hope this helped!

cats also are sometimes particular about litterbox size/shape. you could try getting a bigger litterbox, or one thats dome shaped, etc.

well he has 3 legs now. so I don't know if a dome worked.
it is a tiny bit smaller than the previous
it's not a busy area
he was indoor-outdoor for a while
it's not 100% on the rip edge, just close to the walls. I just find this "side pooping" odd.
