indentthey should have left the rattle for last but sam was probably going to be intrigued by any new toy he got. none of them attempted to take it away because surely such an attempt would elicit a temper tantrum from the baby and nobody wanted to deal with that. he watched the two women attempt to grab sam's attention to the next gift, but he seemed more interested in the shiny rattle than anything else. romeo racked his thoughts for a way to get the baby more interested in the next gift until it finally hit him. he reached over and grabbed the gift he had gotten for sam, still wrapped securely in shiny paper. "hey, little man," he spoke to him, speaking for the first time in a while. "if i open up this gift, would you want to open up your's, too? just like this, see?" he wasn't actually going to open the gift but just rip a few pieces of paper off of it. he proceeded to rip a thin layer of paper off of the wrapped present. he was trying to get sam to copy him. he's noticed over the past month or so that sam has begun to copy the adults around him movement wise and he swore that he even imitated their behavior sometimes. it's something he's noticed recently and he was pretty sure as children grow older, they often mimic their parents in learned behavior. his sisters used to do it when they were younger and like most children, sam seemed the same. he had no idea if he would copy romeo, though or favor the rattle instead although he hoped it wasn't the latter since they would be getting nowhere tonight.

Sam looked up as Romeo spoke to him, watching him rip the paper. Wanting to copy his dad, Sam carelessly dropped the rattle to instead rip at the gift right in front of him. Rosie caught the rattle before it fell off the tables edge, placing it in its box as Sam ripped into his next gift. Rosie had gotten him three gifts: a toy train, a set of building blocks, and a pull toy with a dog who hit a xylophone with little mallets when pulled.

indentromeo couldn't help the small smile that grew on his lips when sam dropped the rattle and began to rip into the paper. he was glad it worked. he noticed sam has increasingly grew more erratic with his mimicking and he was glad that this time, it was no different. he watched as sam ripped into one of his gifts. looking at all these toys reminded him of all the toys in sam's nursery back in the bianchi compound. there had been so many toys in there he had never been able to play with all of them. lana looked at the gifts in interest, the first one being revealed that of a toy train. "ooh, look, sam, a train! do you like trains?" she helped rip off the last few pieces of paper, revealing the toy train to the baby. babies were relatively easy to please but they're never afraid to show their displeasure with something.

Sam looked at the train, scrunching up his nose in obvious distaste for the object. He didn't look interested in any of the toys before him, and Rosie could admit it wasn't the greatest feeling. He was still a baby though, so he'd probably be in love with them in week, which is what she was choosing to tell herself. "Alright," she said, forcing a smile, "let's get Romeos gift open, then have some cake."

indentsam didn't seem to care for the gifts rosie had gotten him, which surprised romeo since they weren't bad gifts at all and seemed like something sam would care for. he was just a baby, though and would most likely grow interested in them within the next week or so since babies were just like that. the toys ended up being moved onto the table at rosie's comment and romeo couldn't help but reach over and bring the pull dog closer to him. he gently pulled it along the surface of the table, watching as the toy hit the xylophone with little mallets. sam should be walking soon, maybe he'd play with the pull toy a lot once he's on his feet. lana grabbed romeo's gift, looking startled when her fingers ended up burying into it. "oh, it's soft and squishy," she set it down in front of sam. "want to open it, baby? just one more, we promise." romeo had ended up getting sam a toy very much similar to the toy bear that he seemed so fond of because, according to rosie, it probably reminded him of romeo's dog, who he also seemed to very much enjoy the presence of. however, the toy bear romeo had gotten sam was bigger than the other one and hopefully more durable. on its belly was a zipper that could be opened and inside could either be placed a heat or ice pack. romeo figured that if sam ever caught a cold or it was simply hot or cold weather out, they could put either a heat or ice pack inside the bear and give it to sam to help him cool down or warm up. or if sam figured out there was a zipper, he might end up shoving random things inside for storage, he didn't know.

Sam tore into the wrapping paper quickly, no longer distracted by the rattle or another toy. He pulled the bear out, smiling at it and pulling it tightly into his little arms. "Oh, it's so cute." Rosie commented, watching Sam cuddle with the bear.

indentromeo was relieved when sam cuddled with the stuffed animal, obviously already fond of it. he had made sure to get a teddy bear and not another animal because sam seemed to like bears and romeo wanted to be safe than sorry. "look at its little ribbon, too," lana agreed with rosie, gently tugging on the red ribbon that had been sewed around the teddy bear's neck. "there's a zipper on its stomach that you can put a heat or ice pack inside, too, in-case he's ever hot or cold. and you can safely wash it in-case he ever gets it dirty," romeo replied, watching sam. he hoped they could get the bear away from him so he could eat cake without getting the stuffed animal dirty but it wouldn't be the end of the world if not.

"That's very clever," Rosie smiled, standing up Togo get the cake and some plates. "Sam, baby. Can we put your bear Down, just for a few minutes? We don't want him to get dirty, right?" She asked softly, leaning down in front of Sam to speak to him. Rosie reached over to hold onto the bear lightly, causing Sam to cry a bit, like he knew his favourite toy was about to be taken away.

indentromeo watched as rosie went to get the cake and some plates while lana shuffled through some of the drawers to find a knife to presumably cut some slices. there was a single candle shaped in the number one they were to stick on top of the cake for sam although they'd have to blow it out for him since he was too young to do so himself but it was the thought that counts. sam didn't seem too happy that rosie was attempting to take the bear away from him, as shown by his small cries of protest. romeo looked at the baby sympathetically while anthony, still standing by the fridge, seemed annoyed by the baby's cries. obviously, sam was not a happy camper without the teddy bear. "how about we put mr. bear on a chair next to you so you're next to him? will that be okay?" he asked sam, pulling out a chair next to him and motioning towards the bear and then at the chair. whether or not he actually understood what romeo was implying had yet to be seen but romeo really did not want him to start crying. this was supposed to be a fun little birthday party, after all.

Sam looked up as his father, eyes getting teary around the edges before nodding, passing the Bear to his father so he could be placed on the chair. Rosie watched the display, glad someone could get Sam to behave, even if it wasn't her. She pulled a matchbox out of the drawer, next to a pack of cigarettes she saved for when she really needed one. Striking the match, she lit the candle on top of the cake, and began to sing quietly, "happy birthday to you... Happy birthday to you..."
