Does anyone know any good free video editing programs?

Postby Rowan E. Ravenwood » Sun Jan 05, 2020 12:21 am

Hello!
So, I'm thinking of starting a Youtube channel, and I've been experimenting with editing speedpaints, to get started and try out some editing techniques. However, the programs I've tried have not worked very well for me.
One is OpenShot video editor, which is great, except it's extremely laggy, the exporting process takes several hours for a very short video, and it keeps crashing in the middle of exporting.
Another one I've tried, I can't remember the name of but it was actually pretty good,, unfortunately I uninstalled it and can't remember a thing about it.
The final one was VideoPad, which was alright, but the final product of the video was really, really laggy (As in, it would stop for up to ten seconds and then jump to the next moment).
Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy an expensive program because I am a broke child (Not really, but I'm saving up for too many things to buy a fancy program)
So if anyone can recommend any good free editing programs, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks!!

i don't recall the names of some, but they were not good. and they have a big commercial on them.
i don't know what skills or anything you have to offer, and we cannot share our ages. so somehting like "maybe if you are somewhat young, bright eyed, bushy tailed and adorable, you could do odd jobs, chores and such in your neighboorhood to fundraise to buy good software. and people will be taken by it and over pay" because then you can look for the best cheapist software

otherwise, you get free trials. and sometimes those stop working. (like how one used to keep installing and uninstalling winzip and it keeps working)

terrible terrible windows movie maker would of been ok.
it used to come bundled with windows media player. I think

this one site says Nero is good, and cost $49.99. something called open shot is free. power director from cyberlink is said to be good, at almost $80. I don't know if where you live, they let people do yardwork without a licence, or if everyone is trusting with "hey I will clean your bathroom for $xyz, I'm raising money to buy movie making software" "will walk your dog for adobe premire

if you are a student, some venues will allow use of ID card for discount. I think no matter what.

Well, thanks for the advice! I guess if I want to do anything with any sort of quality, I really should just buy something fancy,, qwq
I guess if that's the case, I'd better hold off until I'm finished saving for a couple other items, lol <3

A tad late. Hope you're still looking for recommendations!
I'm a small YouTuber. 205 subs. These are the programs i use(d).

CyberLink PowerDirector. Do NOT get the PC version. It is better than the mobile version, but one of the files in it sometimes contains a virus. The mobile version is safe. It's a beginner program, so it's pretty basic, but it gets the job done.

Windows Movie Maker. Not the photo editor one that comes with Windows photos, that one is ass. You can't get this from Microsoft anymore, so you have to find an online download unless you have an older computer. Once again, basic, but this one is SUPER basic. Good for simple videos or as a starter program, but do not spend your entire career using it.

Kinemaster. I'd recommend this one as a definite, but sadly the app currently has a glitch that makes it impossible to use. You cannot export videos and previewing the videos will cause the video to pause sometimes. When that gets fixed, i'll 100,000% recommend this. Basic, but powerful. This one's mobile only though, i think?

Cute Cut. Only downside is that you can only make few second videos. Go over that and they'll tell you to pay for the full version to make longer videos.

Filmora GO. Mostly good for edits and AMVs, but you can probably do more with it.

I would recommend Videopad, but it seems you've already used it.

Oh goodness, thanks a million, this is an absolute lifesaver! I made a small animatic-type thing with OpenShot and it was kind of a nightmare, so I've been waiting to start a channel until I find a better program. I'll definitely try some of these out! Again, thank you so much ❀

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this already, but DaVinci Resolve is the best free software out there! It has similar functionality as Premier and Sony Vegas, but it's freeeeee. I just discovered it last year and I've already made bunch of videos with it. Really good, would definitely recommend.
