the snowy river, new south whales and victoria australia, 1965. at 352 kilometres, wild brumby herds spanned across the whole length all the way to the beaches, some travel a lot further north into the snowy mountains, brumbies travel up to 50 kilometres a day, so can easily travel the length of the river in a week, with horses moving all the time, even those who prefer to stay down near the ocean, will quite often come across those who are further in land and have come down. depending on the season depends on how far they travel, during the warmer months, they travel further, looking for water and food, and will quite often travel the length of the river a dozen times over summer, sometimes more. during winter, brumbies will travel the same distance but over a longer period, about a week and a half to two weeks it will take them to travel the same distance during summer, and finding food is a lot harder so they may travel outside their usual summer paths. now, every second year during spring and summer, a round up holds place, where men from everywhere, get on their stock horses and round up the herds, breaking most of them in, auctioning some off, releasing the excess or... disposing of them.
