Lupinpaw thought for a second, debating his options. Going off and hunting with Doepaw certainly sounded a lot more appealing than waiting for a warrior to finish whatever they were doing. But yesterday's escapade had been so disastrous Lupinpaw wasn't sure he wanted a repeat. "Oh, I don't know," he said hesitantly, watching her closely. "Yesterday I got in some pretty big trouble with Blizzardstar and Nightfire, and they made me promise never to go off hunting by myself again."

Doepaw cocked her head to the side as she recalled the events that had lead up to Lupinpaw getting into trouble the day before. How a search party had been put together to find him when really he'd just been out hunting on his own. The reddish/black apprentice snicked softly and lifted her head high, "True, but you won't be alone if I'm there." She took in Lupinpaw's hesitance and added, "Plus, we don't have to go very far. We can stay close to the camp and just practice." Hopefully, if they only went a short ways away from the camp to practice then they wouldn't get into any trouble. Of course, it was completely up to Lupinpaw. If he wanted to stay here, that was fine...they could stay and chat some more. Or, better yet, they could ask a different warrior to supervise them while their mentors were busy.

As he ate a small breakfast, he could hear the apprentices still talking. He observed Nightfire returning to camp, her ear torn and caked with blood. Has she been out all night? Frostfall wondered. Perhaps she had to escort the rival Pack from SkyPack territory, and perhaps there had been a fight. He was contemplating the possibilities when he happened to catch something of Doepaw's and Lupinpaw's conversation. Paying proper attention for the first time, irritation swept over him. He rose to his feet and strode over to them.
"Or, you can wait for your mentors." Frostfall said. "Unless you want to incur their wrath, especially Nightfire's, after she scolded you just yesterday for leaving camp unattended." His gaze lingered on Lupinpaw. "Now, unless you want to be the first apprentices to be eaten by an angry beta, I suggest you stay here."
His point made, he turned to head out of camp himself, hoping they wouldn't ask to accompany him. The last thing he wanted was two chatty young dogs trailing him, probably asking a million questions and scaring away the prey.

Noticing a bit of a commotion, Dappleheart stood and limped over to the apprentices and larger warrior. “I agree, in fact for even thinking of sneaking out of camp you both are to clean the dens.” She said before moving to follow Frostfall. “Would you mind if I tagged along, Azurepaw would kill me if he knew about this, but I just can’t sit still. Being cooped up last night and this morning was already too much for me to bear.” The injured warrior asked, it being a bit hard for her to walk around still but the overwhelming need for space out weighing that in her mind. “If I’m with you it’ll be safe after all.”

"So instead of two apprentices getting in trouble with their mentors, a warrior risks getting in trouble with the medicine dog and her apprentice?" Frostfall asked wryly. "Keep in mind, if they ask what you're doing out of camp, I told you to stay here and rest, but you refused to listen to me. I hold no responsibility." He eyed her stiff, awkward gait with suspicion. "Are you sure you are all right to leave camp? You don't look like you're in much shape to move quickly if ThunderPack's infamous bear makes an appearance."

Lupinpaw spluttered, shocked at the quick turn of events. "I-I... what? No! I was the one who said it wasn't a good idea!" he fumed, getting up and stomping towards the dens. "Huh, we just talk about hunting, and get in trouble. Then you go disobey the medicine dog and another warrior and probably Blizzardstar, and get away with it!" Lupinpaw grumbled to himself all the way down the hill to the dens, and entered the apprentice's den reluctantly. "Also!" he complained, thinking of another reason to be rebellious. "I cleaned the dumb warrior den just last night! You guys have to be real messy to have to require cleaning every nine hours." He huffed, out of breath, and out of complaints.

Dappleheart shook her head at him with a smile. “You hold no responsibility for me. I’m a warrior, of anyone asks I was out getting a drink.” She said, ignoring the apprentices protests. “I can still run if I have to, I’m just taking it a bit slow right now. I know how to get out of danger.” She reassured him, keeping her head held high. “You can’t just let me go insane being cooped up here.”

As Lupinpaw stormed off, full of complaints, Frostfall contemplated making a wry comment. If Lupinpaw didn't want to clean the dens again, he could help take stock of the medicine supplies, and count four hundred twenty-three poppy seeds instead. The beds would certainly be tidy, he thought as the apprentice vanished.
He turned to Dappleheart again. "Insanity wouldn't be good. We have too few members already without one losing their mind." he said. "Well, come on, then. Maybe we'll get lucky and come across a huge family of rabbits, or a fat deer will drop dead at our feet." Considering the small size of the prey pile, they could use all the food they could find.

The corgi mix wagged her short and fluffy tail in a way that made her whole body wiggle. “Hey if that’s the case I can be a good distraction for any deer we come across. I’m so small I shouldn’t spook them.” She said before trotting out of the pack, using it to mask her limping incase someone else saw.

Frostfall looked at her skeptically as she followed, but didn't comment. He hoped she wasn't pushing her limits, and that she would be able to keep up. "That's true. As long as you keep downwind, they'll probably mistake you for a rabbit. Perhaps you should hop, to make it more convincing."
He headed out of camp, keeping a more leisurely pace than he normally would. With her recent injury and considerably shorter legs, it wouldn't do to adopt his usual long-strided gait. He recalled a few times he absentmindedly did so when walking with a smaller dog, then found they were practically running to match his pace.
