Dawnpaw nodded. "Alright, I'll just gather a bit." She exited the medicine den, and turned to Applefrost, unsure whether the older warrior would still wish to tag along. "I'm going to go looking for chamomile... do you want to still help?" she asked, and though she seemed to be looking at Applefrost's face, she was, in reality, mostly smelling it. It was due to her strange eye condition that she couldn't see too well, and though they were close, Dawnpaw's companion was still rather blurry.

It occurred to her that Rive was looking at her, so she offered a kind smile. However, the chihuahua had already started to glance away and Applefrost brushed the smile off. "You're welcome," she replied softly to Needlefang and didn't smile this time since the medicine dog was already getting to work. She followed Dawnpaw out of the den and listened to her speak. "Of course. I don't have anything else to do," she murmured with slight amusement and smiled. The warrior noticed that her eyes had an odd glassy look to them as if the medicine dog apprentice wasn't looking at her. Applefrost didn't want to say anything though, especially if it ended up offending Dawnpaw by accident.

Dawnpaw smiled, and began walking northwest, to where she thought chamomile might be. It needed the soil to be slightly sandy, so the apprentice found it likely that the herb would be near the river at the border of the fourtrees. Soon, the gathering! Even as introverted as Dawnpaw was, the thought of the gathering was extremely exciting. She listening to the other elders, or to dogs her age telling stories. Even being with other medicine dogs was fascinating, because many of them had tricks she'd never thought of before. Calm down, Dawnpaw thought, smiling slightly at her enthusiasm. Chamomile first.

Birchpaw felt a draft in the apprentice den. He squinted his eyes a little in discomfort at such a cold thing, but realized that almost all of the apprentices left the den already. He shot up in alarm. "I slept in!" He growled at himself. He then quickly raced out the apprentice den to join the rest of Shadowpack, ready to start the day. He heard his stomach grumble in hunger, he realized: I'm not so ready... He went to the fresh-kill pile to pick up something to eat. He was glad that he wasn't alone on his quest for food when he saw Snakepaw however. "Hey Snakepaw!" He called out a greeting while picking out a squirrel.

It was quiet as she walked behind Dawnpaw, but she didn't mind. Applefrost was used to silence, and it was a comfortable one at that. Even though she knew nothing about medicine, it was also wonderful to feel helpful. "What does chamomile do?" Applefrost asked, her curiosity getting the best of her usual quiet demeanor. I've heard of it before, other than today. I just don't know how I know it, she thought to herself and feigned off a frown.

She heard Birchpaw and her tail started to immediately wag. "Birchpaw! Lovely late morning to you. Picking out some food too?" She trotted over to where he was and gazed into the pile. There were some good choices in there, but she noticed he picked a nice squirrel from the pile.

Birchpaw wagged his tail too pleased at her reply. "Yup! I'mma go and take da qwirrel, an go an eat 'omwhere." He shifted his squirrel in his mouth so that he could talk a little but clearer, but only a little bit. "Whad'ya gonna take?".

"Hm.." She pushed some prey aside. Her eyes lit up as she dove into the pile and picked up a rat. "This one!" She yipped. Her voice was a little muffled as she held onto the tail of the creature. "Want to go sit somewhere and eat with me?"

"Yup!" His tail wagged even harder, if that was possible. "Wanna ea o'er dere?" He pointed his muzzle near a pile of rocks, across the clearing. There was nothing special about these rocks, except that they were rocks. They were also his favorite things to play with when he was a pup, but that was it.
