Humans were all so cute, but Aida was the definition of adorable. Sycamore had the urge to give her a warm phoenix hug. The only thing stopping her was the massive stack of books in her arms.
"If you want to carry the books, I'll go get my shelf," She told Aida as she placed the stack into her friend's arms. Now with both hands free, Sycamore wrapped her cheery friend in a big bear hug. There was no resisting the Twodor instinct to snuggle your dear friends.
"Thank you baby!"Detaching herself, she nodded to Petra in understanding. The Ninon recruit was one of numerous rebels in Headquarters who hadn't been born here. It must have been lonesome to grow up in such a cold, harsh district, so Sycamore was glad Petra could be among friends now.
"Sounds great, Petra. That would help a lot," She said before retreating to her room.
She soon came out hauling an empty wooden bookshelf that creaked whenever it moved. It was about the same height as the phoenix's nearly six-foot self. Thankfully, Sycamore had long, strong arms to carry this shelf down to the prison.
"Alright, I think we're ready to go," She said, smiling even though the bookshelf blocked out her face.
"I think there's a back stairwell that leads to the prison, but I can't see. One of you might have to lead the way."Ardai Fairchild

Ardai jumped at the sudden exclamation from their normally mild-mannered friend. "Disgrace", essentially an universal swear word through all nine provinces, was a word he never expected to hear out of Caleb's mouth. Before the redhead could laugh it off, however, Caleb explained his situation. Ardai's eyes grew wide with horror at the knowledge that the Royal Guard was
already there, attacking his friends, not even stopping when the Prince himself opposed them.
"Wh... what? Are we too late?" Ardai asked in shock, but then an air of defiant optimism returned to his voice.
"No! They'll be fine. Let's get on with it, and then we can go help them!"Finding the nearest wall close to a light source, Ardai raised his hands to cast a large and foreboding shadow. He was aiming for a moth as Caleb had just suggested, but the creation turned out as a huge dragonfly. Ardai directed the shadow creature to the wall so it would look like a two-dimensional work of graffiti art. Hopefully their plan would distract the remaining Royal Guards in the city, and then they could run to their friends' aid.

Gavotte nodded solemnly as his friend suggested they help. There were very few Royal Guards around now, the most notable of which were currently attacking Onyx and Brenn. He retrieved Robin's net from the bushes, careful to step around the unmoving bodies of the Royal Guards. A shudder went down his spine as he caught a glimpse of one's lifeless eyes. Gavotte quickly moved away, trying to bury his horror, and returned the net to Robin's hands.
"I can cover you if you throw the net at him," Gavotte told her, gesturing to the guy attacking their friends. He gripped the butterfly knife tightly between his fingers, ready to throw it if things went wrong.
"I'll make sure nobody attacks you once you get close."Alastair Brungard

The Prince was growing impatient - all this was so unnecessary. Had Wayne possessed a single shred of rationality in the hollow void of his mind, this whole battle could have been avoided. As it stood, the majority of the traitor captain's men had already fallen. Two of the last stragglers were cooperating to attack two children, and Alastair strode over with cold determination on his face. With a swift, graceful kick to the head, one of the men collapsed motionless to the ground.
The other attacker was already disarmed. Alastair gave the ice-wielder and acrobat a quick once-over, and decided they could handle this remaining soldier.
"I will leave this one to you," He told them before returning to his search for Wayne. Now with the crowd having dwindled to nothing, he sought out the coward skulking around in the bushes.
"Wayne!" Alastair raised his voice - and his sword.
"Hiding and cowering while your soldiers fight on your behalf. But no longer. Wayne Montgomery of the Royal Guard, I hereby challenge you to a duel."Green eyes narrowed, awaiting the heathen's decision. His men were all but defeated, unable to even buy him time to escape. Wayne seemed to realize the futility of his situation, and after a few moments' hesitation, finally stepped out into the clearing.
"Okay, girly. I'll go easy on you, as long as those brats don't get in the way." A sneer spread across his face, but Alastair suspected the arrogance was a facade. Wayne had nothing to fall back on.
"They will not interfere, as long as your men respect the same rules. If you are victorious, you may return me to my father." Of course, Alastair did not intend to lose. He would sooner perish at the claws of wild dogs than face that tyrant's wrath today.
"All I ask is that you fight with honor for once in your life.""Honor? What do you know about honor?" Wayne laughed.
"But fine, fine.""Then we begin. You may have the first strike," Alastair offered, never breaking eye contact. Without another word, Wayne charged, brandishing his sword like a barbarian.
