The whole problem with demand is that it's also different for each person. Everyone wants something different, for a different value, for the same pets. Some will trade a UR strawberry for a UR bee, others will trade that same strawberry for 5-6 nons. That is one of the sole reasons I find demand to be crushing the systems

I took a break from trading because the system went all out of wack. When I came back, I found that the whole list had been banished. Although it had happened a few months ago, I saw select few still using it.
Let me just show you what demand and greed is doing to players, like myself, who no longer know what they are doing.
My silly trade from last week.

I regret having taken this trade and not seeking more help, yet demand taking over cs has gone too far and there are no completely reliable sources. I whole heartedly agree with releasing store pets randomly with adopts, same way it is done with the zebras. But knowing demand has skyrocketed and me being open with how confused I am has also shown an increase in people wishing to take advantage of the chaos and send unfair trades. I feel incredibly bad for all of the new players who will now most likely never own a pet with a purple tag.
Events such as when the pound releases 100k-200k pets need to happen more often, as I remember people getting quite a lot from them. This site is so large, that many players will have left/been banned and the 'demand' pets are floating in there somewhere. If they were all dished out then it may raise the economy.

I may be clueless to trades, and have no idea what is worth what anymore. I don't trust other people's opinions, and go off my own judgement wrongly. But I'm a 2016 player, and it was way more fun back then when you could actually trade for pets.

I also saw someone in the thread mention not being able to see pound pets anymore, so I'll leave this. I've had it bookmarked since 2017, a group which always starts on the back page of the pets in the pound at the next opening

trading has just gotten so complicated lately

when i first started out i was already
really stressed out by the list, then
demand came into play and i lost
all interest in trading
starting as someone new in late
2014 was hard, mostly because
i never had a chance to get anything
'high-value' unless it was from dec.18,
even that being an unreliable source
since most of what i got was just semi-
old rares and thats it
i liked a few pets, and i really wanted
them
but the problem was that i couldnt get
anywhere with my old, unknown 2011
pound rare because of demand
leading me to kinda lose sight of what
was most valuable: the enjoyment of
having a pet i actually liked lol
eventually i gave in and decided "i just
want the most wanted ones. sunback,
raven, puppet guy, dont know what a
non is but i want it" and then, shortly
after, gave up as a whole.
wanting to get the pets i wanted with
all i had was impossible, and it still is.
i dont see anyone trading anything, and
if they are it's often overpriced or
literally just named nft or put in a nft
group,,, like,,,,,, regardless of what
i want,,, hgfh

trading as a whole is just a massive
trainwreck for me right now
i dont have the time to look at every
post in the trades forum just for a
chance to get the smallest things

often i just get excited if i see a trade
notification at all, since no one ever
responds to my trades
even if they do, its usually rudely declining

didnt mean to just dump everything here,
will probably delete it later lol

tldr: tradings too hard, demand
makes it 100x worse, no matter
what youre trying to get

maisie+flokez wrote:This demand also isn't only pet-based, as I think someone mentioned, it's also had a huge knock-on effect on the value of C$, and how C$ is perceived. Around 1050C$ is widely regarded to be around the value of a non, but if users have a pet that they value at 2 nons, I've seen some people ask for 2100C$, which is over the value of a Sunjewel/UR Tiger in C$. I get that to some people, it's frustrating that C$ values don't follow the same linear value that pet values do, but 380C$ is bought for 20USD, so a non's-worth of C$ is already worth almost 60 dollars. If you used that same logic for a UR Tiger for example, and paid 6 nons worth, that'd be 6300C$, which would be over 300 dollars. I know it some people it seems like silly in-game currency, but people paid real money for that and it does have a genuine worth which shouldn't be impacted like this in a demand-based economy. The "What is this pet worth in C$?" thread is there for a reason, and it points out that C$ value is added up differently to pet value - I think that needs to be emphasised heavily to members.

I actually greatly disagree on the C$ thing, honestly I feel like C$s are the only thing that make trading for valuable stuff possible these days. Yes, C$ are worth real money, but they are also fairly easy to come by. Every single high mainlist I have ever owned on this site I bought with C$, and most of the C$ I've ever had I've earned by selling old uncommons. It's a simple cycle of selling things, letting the C$ accumulate and then dishing out a large sum of 3000 C$ for whatever pet you want. I think it's entirely fair considering that amount of C$ represents a stack of old 2010 uncommons grabbed from the pound and my time and effort, honestly I think it's more fair than any pet for pet based trading on the site.

Why not?

CS isn't just about a handful of high demand pets - there are literally THOUSANDS of pets in here. To distill everything down to just those few 'precious' ones is what is harming CS. Yes, it's nearly impossible to get those really expensive outcomes but what about everything else? New players could have years and years of fun collecting awesome stuff if they just looked around a bit more. There are beautiful pets released every month.

And THAT is what's killing CS. People just want the "good old valuable stuff" instead of monthly new outcomes. Have most of us forgotten what Chicken Smoothie is all about?

Man now this is the real truth. I've read some of the threads from 2008 and 2009 and it's amazing how much fun people are having discussing the individual pets they like. Nowadays I really only see that kind of care from hoarders, just ordinary players usually only talk about the outcomes they've missed or whatever. It's a collection game now, not a pet site.

I agree, CS started feeling like a TCG.

and the pps dragoncat,, i remember when it came out so,, idk how is it worth a listie?? the trading system is just so confusing for me especially with the list and stuff bc people follow the list but also don’t follow the list? maybe its not killing CS but it sure is making the trading system difficult to understand for new players

Absolutely this.

I mean, i totally get wanting to get your hands on some of those older pets, heck i had the same goals myself, but for me it wasnt about just because they were old and rare, i just liked their design more than anything else, who cares what demand said about them. I find myself also having favorite outcomes that i adore from even the regular monthlies and such as well.

I will agree that the demand for things has been spiraling out of control lately, either in one direction or the other. What is one non today is 3 nons tomorrow it seems.

But also to add onto this user's point, there is so much more to CS than just those old super rare pets, or even trading for that matter. heck i mean we have the creativity and art forums, the roleplay boards, the Clubs and armies board, the monthly and event discussions, and i could keep going. Some of my friends i have shared these same thoughts with have said that they couldn't connect with those parts of CS but upon closer inspection it isnt so much that they couldn't, but rather they refused to try to, not that i would try to force anyone to do anything, of course dont get me wrong on that.

There is something on this site for everyone even if it isnt the pets at all, and perhaps an unpopular opinion here, but there can be found happiness here other than trying to bash ones brains against the wall trying to get skelebuns and cerebus and the like.

That's....basically what demand is. When people REALLY want a certain pet, they determine the value of it. The Raven and Dragoncat PPS have always had good demand, but do go through inflations and such.

Honestly trying to get my hands on a Dragoncat PPS and I'd give 2 Advent Lists for it and some VRs. Seen them go for A LOT more though.

Unfortunately, demand will always be a thing on CS no matter what. /:

I follow the flow with rarity and demand to a certain point. (I would not trade 5 nons for a raven lol) But sometimes it’s impossible to trade without including the demand of pets.

Saying that demand killed CS is a little absurd to me. Demand has always been the number one factor to trade decisions since the dawn of the website. There is no way of determining the true value of a pet because thats not how the game was intended to be played. The whole fun is the demand! Thats why everyone gets excited when they trade their ur cucumber for a non dog. Its a fair trade, but the chance of you getting the full value of the cucumber is extremely slim.

Demand will be necessary to determining the value of pets on CS no matter what. What this website so desperately needs is a general consensus of values. The retirement of the rares list was the biggest mistake CS has ever made, in my opinion. It was the only general consensus of value we had for pets, and now its gone. The list couldve been easily fixed to represent the general consensus far better than it was. It was retired because it was inaccurate rarity-wise after the last massive rarity update. All lists will be inaccurate. The whole point of them is to create a general consensus of opinions to make trading easier.

People are now valuing pets based on the most they can get. We can throw stones, but if you had a red cerb you would also be asking 3+ nons for it too. Thats because theres a general consensus that the cerb is worth that much. I cant even look at my red cerb without questioning its value. Its only VR and people are willing to pay 3+ nons for it??? What?? At the same time, would I let my cerb go for less, considering that I paid accordingly? Heck no.

I dont even like trading anymore because the general consensus tells me that I should try to get the most I can out of my pets so Im not screwed over. Im not going to put myself at a disadvantage so others can benefit. I want fair trades but I dont know what "fair" means anymore. A whole sweep of our trading system is needed so people can feel confident in their trades again. Even if you disagreed with the Rares List, which is an entirely valid opinion, its important to realize that the whole website used that list to base their trading decisions on, and now its become harder to trade because confidence in trade decisions has deminished and people are defending themselves and their collections by asking for the highest bidder.

I think that this change is inevitable and comes to any collecting game with time. There have been few high-value pet additions to the game other than the annual URs, and now we have more users that want the same pets. If my memory serves me right, the last very rare pet we've gotten is the green robot rat from the space event in 2016. And I wouldn't consider that a high-end VR; it's pretty easy to obtain. So with more people and less rare pets to go around, we run into this brick wall.

Only so many pets can be released every year to maintain their rarity, so there will never be enough pets to satisfy everyone who wants them. We don't know the full details of how active users are counted against rarity, but we can assume that rare pets will stay rare. That means that not everyone who wants them will be able to get them, unfortunately.

I think some demand is justified; Store pets aren't getting re-released, so it makes sense that people want the Skelebun and Cerberus and Eat/Drink Me pets. It's an investment that will only gain value as time goes on. Other pets will continue to be re-released and stay the same rarity; the old Store pets will only gain value.

I don't think any of this is necessarily wrong for a collection game. You can play CS however you want, but it's not too hard to get a few high-value pets; the hard part is getting all of them. A lot of people have lost the drive to do that, and instead they choose to collect the pets they like or only collect certain linearts. With nearly 10,000 pets to collect, someone who started later is at a severe disadvantage.
