I’ve seen quite a few lovely new “Rares Lists.” The problem is that none of them have been recognized as an “official” list so members are continuing to reference the discontinued one. Additionally, most of the new ones are still in progress, and are not ready to be used yet. Perhaps if one of them was recognized by staff members as a list, it would gain more recognition/popularity.

Maybe I’m optimistic (I also don’t know the deep semantics of the discontinuation of the Rares List aside from it being flawed) but I’m hoping someone will decide to revamp the old one. Sure, it was behind in terms of demand and rarity, but a little TLC could never hurt. At the very least, it would make a good foundation for a new rare’s list.

old user who has seen quite a bit of cs between unforseen hiatuses here, and it has been absolutely wild coming back every few months or so and seeing the dramatic shifts in demand/the rares list/etc.

at this point i'm honestly scared of trying to trade up/around with old list pets because i don't want to get yelled at. it's almost a blessing i don't have much of value. sometimes i just want to sit in a corner and dress up my pets, it's terrifying how polarising the list-or-not-list issue can be.

the saddest part imo is i'm not even sure where i personally stand. of course if i can milk out a pet to get more from it, i want to, but i also don't want people doing it to me, and everyone's so confused and subjective about the list... i was crossing my fingers that something like this wouldn't happen the moment i saw it was discontinued but i guess i jinxed it haha

maybe CS will come back stronger, maybe it won't. who knows. but as long as we keep it running by just being around and active, there's a chance it'll get better and more orderly and i think that's a nice thought to have :)

That alone would turn me away from this site.

Im already considering limiting how much time I spend on this site from now on until it either works itself out or ultimately falls apart. Im praying for the first...

My sister in law just started in June and just recently started again. She got an offer for her balloon dog for 1 '14 rare and I was like noooooooooo that's so not fair. Crazy to me how they think they can go around like that

When I saw the poll I can't say I was surprised. I am rather uncharitably in the mindset to believe that a good chunk of people voted for it to be dissolved because they thought it would make obtaining the pets on it easier. Harsh? Mqybe, but it clearly was a short term vote that has had long term consequences. I'd like to see the list return in some way, shape, or form, because getting rid of it has clearly thrown things out of line to a pretty decent-sized degree.

i'm not sure anything will be able to change it at this point tbh, it's too big of a deal. i mean if there was at least a demand list so we could have some sort of guidance it would be very helpful, but skelebuns are going for like 10 nons (i didn't know people liked rabbits!) so i'm not really sure of it anymore, i don't think anybody is (enough to make a list).

The problem I have with the idea of something like a "demand list" is that demand fluctuates so quickly, and people would start quoting "demand" as "value/rarity" and I think it's important that the two are kept separate. Yes, we don't have a definitive list of rarity anymore, but we know that OMGSR pets are rarer than very rares even if they have bad demand. I know The Rares List had its flaws, but it did have an important structure that helped a lot of players understand more about rarity - and demand was taken into account separately from actual rarity. If there was a big overpay/underpay then it was taken more as an exception, whereas now if it's beneficial for someone trading off their pet, it'll get taken as a rule.

I give advice on the FTT quite a lot, and I always try to say "this is considered to be worth x, but with demand, it's currently been trading for around y", or something along those lines, so users can try and make their own informed decisions based on rarity/demand. (I spend a lot of time on forums looking through completed trades/auctions/see FTT offers/see what people are asking for etc.) and this all contributes towards assessing current demand, so I can always try and give informed opinions). But I also think it's important that any trading decisions that are made are ones that you and your trading partner are happy with - just because someone else has advised that x pet goes for y value, doesn't mean that exactly what you have to trade for it.

It's also common for demand to fluctuate rapidly because of things like auctions, where it's common for pets to go for overpay because they have high demand and people are trying to outbid each other. If people then quote those trades as being "fair", or saying "I paid x for this pet, so I want x plus something else", then demand rises. But once people realise the actual value, refuse to overpay anymore, or active demand for the pet dies down a bit, demand falls. Particularly in the case of store pets, demand can fluctuate even faster because they won't be re-released, so their actual value will keep rising and people will overpay consistently to try and get hold of pets that they know will continue to increase in value and they can trade off for profit in future.

This demand also isn't only pet-based, as I think someone mentioned, it's also had a huge knock-on effect on the value of C$, and how C$ is perceived. Around 1050C$ is widely regarded to be around the value of a non, but if users have a pet that they value at 2 nons, I've seen some people ask for 2100C$, which is over the value of a Sunjewel/UR Tiger in C$. I get that to some people, it's frustrating that C$ values don't follow the same linear value that pet values do, but 380C$ is bought for 20USD, so a non's-worth of C$ is already worth almost 60 dollars. If you used that same logic for a UR Tiger for example, and paid 6 nons worth, that'd be 6300C$, which would be over 300 dollars. I know it some people it seems like silly in-game currency, but people paid real money for that and it does have a genuine worth which shouldn't be impacted like this in a demand-based economy. The "What is this pet worth in C$?" thread is there for a reason, and it points out that C$ value is added up differently to pet value - I think that needs to be emphasised heavily to members.

But anyway, to answer the actual question of the thread - yes, I feel to a large extent demand has killed off a lot of what CS used to be - so many trades I receive now seem to be people strategically trying to trade up/trade down their pets to gain value/demand and while of course I can understand why people would want to do that to increase the value of their collection, or save up for a dream pet, this definitely didn't used to be the focus. I feel like the game used to be more light-hearted and there was a lot more collaboration helping users achieve their goals? But yeah, I think there's a lot to think about and no perfect answers. I just hope that there remain dedicated users who give advice on rarity based on sound information, as I think that above all, that's helpful to users.

Hope this long ramble made sense XD

100% agree, ive been trying to get a clockwork bunny for the longest time and i swear i've literally traded EVERYTHING i own in a trade (spent like half an hour each time) only for it to be cancelled, and i have pets like the elf rat and the tess birthday dog, it might not be much, but its a huge bulk of VR's only to be canceled, i dont think i'll ever get the clockwork bunny thanks to "demand"
I don't like this website and i don't know why im still here

It definitely is a big problem (especially considering how I have two OMGSR rats but barely ANYONE wants them because the “rat demand is low.”

I do understand that the line art may be likeable, but I do not think that it should change the rarity of the pet. It is what it is, and it would make trading a lot easier if people would accept rats as any other pet.

Also getting rid of the list is a big issue for me. I don’t see how a pet that was on the advent list going for 6-7 09 rares (for example) going down to the three month rule. It doesn’t make sense. Yes, it would make the pet easier to obtain, but I am sure no one would trade a pet that is valuable to them for less. I do like how many continue to use the list, and I just believe that removing it was pointless.

I KNOW RIGHT??? ive been trying to get a skelebun for the longest time but never had enough for one, and then, just as i get enough, the rares list frickin dies and now im back to square one. at least the rares list provided some sense of structure but with it gone the site is a mess.

yesss i agree with this so much. i feel like there was such a huge effort to just completely disregard the list and the transition is just....really confusing?? especially as someone who left the site when the list was still very much active and came back recently..
i know the whole point of removing the list was that the values had been distorted by demand, but now without a structure i feel like demand still completely rules over cs trading, even if its less objective now. so i'm trying to be more open to new values, but i still refer to the list a lot because...well

I don't even attempt to trade for the really valuable stuff. What I have has been gifted or through the pound. And, a few bought with C$.

I don't like being yelled at. Who does? Or deal with condescension so I don't. I'm good with the new stuff and organizing and hoarding less valuable rarities and gifting.

I do believe some sort of official guide or list is necessary.
