โ™š lions are considered one of the most powerful predators on the face of the earth, a symbol of majestic
power and greatness. lions are even referred to as the โ€˜king of the jungleโ€™. even though they may be powerful,
life within the african savannah isnโ€™t always that easy for lions. the dry seasons are long and harsh, prey
is scattered and unpredictable, with many prides wondering when their next meal may be. reaching adulthood
is considered an achievement as morality rates are often so high for cubs. poachers are becoming one of the greatest
threats for lions. but despite all of these odds, lions still manage to hold their title as the great predators of africa.

โœฆ

hello and welcome to the roleplay! this roleplay is based exclusively around lions, african lions to be exact.
the roleplay is set in africa and will follow the storyline of the lions that live within africaโ€™s serengeti national park.
lions can either be lone or living in prides containing males or simply just females. this is a fairly realistic roleplay,
and is more
based around lion survival rather than royalty i hope you enjoy partaking in the
roleplay and thankyou for joining if you do! :โ†„

โ™š please make sure to follow the rules!

โŒœxxxi. please make sure to follow all chickensmoothie rules, including both standard and roleplay rules
ii. be respectful to others, make sure to be fair and donโ€™t rudely carry on, no swearing etc, be understanding of others.
iii. keep the roleplay appropriate which includes fading when nessecary and not going into great detail, being gory etc.
iv. rival males often fight, whether they are in a pride or not and this may be common occurence. fights should be taken to the discussion thread where outcomes will be decided. these fights should not be intense or described in gory detail.
v. be mindful of your lions age, lions often live until ten to fourteen years in the wild. males will become significantly weaker after nine years of age and females are less fertile and lethality for both the lioness and cubs will increase before and after pregnancy.
vi. please try and be realistic with hunts. if you are unsure, please refer to the prey list.
vii. please try and write detailed responses for your characters, whilst writers block is understandable here and there, a sizeable paragraph is nice as it gives everyone a bit to respond to.
viii. there should be a slightly higher ratio of males to females to help make prides more fair and equal.
ix. please be aware of slot limits for prides and if a slot limit is introduced for males. be aware that subordinate males are limited within a pride!
x. please do not create a roleplay for yourself, do not create your own lion and lionesses and run your own pride within this roleplay.
xi. keep your lions realistic, everyone has flaws and that includes lions, do not stat boost your lions and make them significantly powerful.
xii. whilst being busy is understandable, please try to be as active as possible. if you havenโ€™t posted on the roleplay for around a week or so, i will pm you and if no response is given after a couple days your characters will be temporarily โ€˜frozenโ€™ until you return and any characters interacting with them will go on to interact with other characters.
xiii. please disable signatures in both the roleplay and discussion thread.
xiv. please read up on the pride information and prey list, it will provide information about the roleplay and hopefully help with writers block.
xv. please post all forums on the discussion thread.
xxxโŒŸ

if you have any questions please do not hesitate to pm me!

โœš information about lone lions

๐—น๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€.

lone lions are both lions and lionesses. they are around three to fifteen years of age. they belong to no pride, and usually this is because they have left their previous or birth pride. lionesses are typically around three years of age, as they become fertile at that age whilst males are typically around five years of age or so, as this as when they are more capable of forming or taking over a pride. all lions within the roleplay will start off as lone, however they shouldnโ€™t stay lone lions for long in regards to their survival, it is very difficult for a lion to hunt on their own. lionesses generally are whooed by a male and claimed into his pride fairly quickly, or they may already have relations therefore they live within a lioness pride. however males that are unsuccessful at forming a pride may go on to reunite with long lost allied or brothers, froming coalitions. lionesses may be lone and pregnant, or even with cubs. however she should be wary if she has cubs with her and will often wait until they are older and less vulnerable before accepting a male.

โ† information about coalitons

๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€.

coalitions are a group of male lions. this group varies in size from around two to ten lions. these coalitions are typically formed at a very early age, when all males are young cubs. this is why coalitions are often made up of related males, brothers, cousins and half siblings. however males may join coaltions later in their lives for increased chances of survival and strength, which explains unrelated males within a coalition.. coalitions often form within a lionsโ€™ birth pride, as the males grow more affectionate with eachother and spend more time with eachother. since they are no longer aggressive towards eachother in nature, they are able to successfully work together to gain large amounts of territory. coalitions are very powerful, and cause alot of trouble amongst prides. despite the great strength of a coaliton, there is not many due to the fact that there is alot of tension between all of the males, and that the members will go onto claim their own prides.

roles

domiant males: these males are far more dominant than the other males, however they need to keep up their dominant roles. they are generally the eldest and strongest males, and are the first to become king within overtaken prides.

other males: these are the other males, they are not considered subordinates since they do not belong to a pride, however they do patrol and even bunch together and hunt down prey. but considered a coalitions strength, coalitions are likely to scavenge or steal other lionโ€™s kills.

โ€ information about lioness โ€œpridesโ€

๐—น๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ โ€œ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€โ€.

lionesses often band together at times to form maleless โ€œpridesโ€. there are often many reasons as to why these prides form, however they are not formed by lionesses on a whim. lionesses do not simply just โ€œjoinโ€ these wondering lioness prides, they are often made up of related lionesses or lionesses that used to share the same pride. they often form when a prideโ€™s male is injured or doesnโ€™t return to his pride for several days for whatever reason. these lioness prides may include both pregnant lionesses and lionesses with cubs. if these lionesses prides contain young cubs, they are often very reluctant to accept new males, however they do need protection so they often wait around hoping their previous male will return to the pride or accept a newer male when the cubs are nearing adolescence age. lioness prides do not last for long, because although they do fuction like normal prides, allocating hunter and broodmother roles and having more dominant females that lead the pride, they lack protection and strength they would have in the presence of males, as it is difficult for the lionesses to protect their cubs and fend off attackers. therefore lionesses prides are always in search of a particular male, depending on their situation.

roles

domiant females: these females like to take on the lead role within the bunch. they are considered to be wiser and more experienced females, and often display more dominang traits. they lead hunting parties and attempt lead defending the pride when they are provoked. she is generally the most likely lioness to have cubs, as she was generally the queen of her previous pride. she often decides which male can take over the pride and leads the pride to certain locations, she makes most of the decisions for the pride.

hunting lioness: these lionesses are responsible for hunting for the pride. most lionesses within lioness prides are hunters, the rest stay back and are broodmothers. they help provide the food for the pride and often step up to defend aswell.

broodmothers: within lioness prides few lionesses are broodmothers, there are often around one or two. they stay back when the other lionesses go out to hunt, nursing and caring for the prides cubs. when the pride is attacked, they often try to defend the cubs.

โœข information about prides

๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€.

a pride is the most important part of a lions life, they provide balanced structure and stability. this is because within a pride there are set roles for each lion, which is what makes the pride so successful. the highest roles within the pride are the king and queen. the king is considered the most dominant male. he is the strongest, often eldest and most wisest male. generally of the cubs sired within the pride are his. the queen is the most domiant lioness. she too is often the eldest and wisest. she leads many of the hunts within the pride hunts and is often the first lioness within the pride to birth cubs, and her cubs recieve significantly greater protection and care than the others cubs. the next are the subordinate males, they are less dominant than the king and are often brothers, cousins or good friends with the king. within prides, subordinate males are allowed to sire cubs but must never with the queen. subordinate males are responsible for patrolling the prides territory and warning and helping to defend from incoming attacks. the next role are the hunting lionesses. most lionesses within the pride are hunters. they are very important and are responsible for sourcing all of the food for the pride. a few lionesses are broodmothers, they stay back, caring and nursing the prides cubs. broodmothers often have cubs themselves or are expecting, which allows them to nurse other cubs. cubs and adolescents are then the next members of the prides. cubs are considered any lions from the age of birth until around one years of age. adolescents are considered from a year to two years, from which then they may either stay or leave their birth pride. the final members are the elders. elders are often very old members of the pride, as they arenโ€™t usually accepted into prides considered their vulnerability and they are often old lionesses.

roles

king: the king is the highest role within the pride. he is the founding male of the pride. he is the most dominant and strongest male. the king generally stays back within the prides territory, occasionally he may patrol. he roars and marks his territory frequently, making rivals aware. the king stays back within the pride to defend possible attacks from rivals, and may also spend times with his cubs.

queen: the queen is the most domiant lionesses, often particularly favoured by the king aswell. she is often older and wiser than other lionesses. the queen is often the first to birth cubs within the pride. however no other lion should sire her other than the king as long as she is a pride member. when her cubs are born they often recieve the highest care, they are considered very important. the queen is often responsible for leading many of the hunts when she isnโ€™t expecting or lounging around with her king. she instructs the pride and creates many orders, often knowing when to follow migrating prey or when and where to go out to search for water in the dry season.

subordinate males: subordinate males are less dominant males that reside within the pride. there is often no more than three of them within a pride, as this creates alot of tension between all of the males. subordinate males are generally related in some way to the king. subordinate males are responsible for patrolling the pride, marking the outskirts of the territory and defending incoming attacks. whilst they do not participate in hunts, they may occasionally bring a carcass back with them whilst on patrol. subordinate males may breed with lionesses within the pride, but never the queen.

hunting lionesses: hunting lionesses are very important members. without them the pride would have no food. it is the hunters responsibility to source food for the pride. the larger the party, the greater prey they can bring back. whilst hunting lionesses can have cubs, once their cubs are born they go straight back to their hunting role and have their cubs protected by broodmothers. parties are often sent out with several lionesses, occasionally they may be lead by the queen.

broodmothers: broodmothers are responsible for looking after the prides cubs. since they are often expecting or have cubs themselves, they are able to nurse younger cubs aswell when their mothers are away hunting. broodmothers very rarely go on hunts, unless they change roles or there are no cubs within the pride at that stage. however whilst there are cubs up to one year of age within the pride, the broodmothers will alwaus be staying back to protect them from predators.

cubs/adolescents: cubs are considered lions from the age of birth until one year, from which then on they are considered adolescents until they reach two years of age. cubs are protected by broodmothers as they are still very vulnerable to predators when they are small. cubs spend most of their time playing and sparring with one another, which helps to develop their skills. once they reach adolescent age they no longer require protection from broodmothers as they are almost their adult size. adolescents males still do spar with eachother occasionally, however adolescent males often go with subordinate males to learn and train whilst adolescent females often tag along of hunting trips with the lionesses. once an adolescent reaches two years of age, they may consider leaving or staying with the pride depending on the circumstances.

elders: elders are very old lions within a pride. they are very rarely seen within new prides as they are members of older prides and they were within that pride since the beginning. since they are vulnerable and offer little use to a pride, prides will very rarely accept them unless they were a previous member. since older lions are often chased off and defeated by younger males, elders are often lionesses.

not all lions may belong to a pride, this applies to both male and female lions and both the young and old. although lone lions are often very young lions and lionesses, typically around two years of age or so and it is more common to see younger lone lions, older lions can be seen as lone aswell for many reasons. it is often a common occurrence to be chased out of a pride, particularly for males. lionesses may have young cubs with them, which they protect with their lives. lone lions are generally seeking to become apart of a pride, as it can be difficult to support themselves on their own.

a coalition refers to a group of male lions. this group generally has no more than ten individuals and has much stress and tension that comes with it, often causing coalition members to split of and form their own prides shortly after the coalition forming. coalitions usually include related brothers and cousins, but it can be made up of unrelated members. coalitions are strong, and often go around causing chaos amongst prides with the few males sometimes struggling to defend off the coalition. if successful, usually one or two males from the coalition will go onto claim the pride while the weaker members are slowly chased off. within the roleplay there is a maxium of three coalition groups.

lionesses often bond together to form their own โ€œpridesโ€ when they are not in the presence of a male. these lioness prides are generally made up of females that are all related, some may even have cubs. these lioness prides most commonly form when they are abandoned by their previous prides male or when females cubs continue to be together into adolescence. within these lioness prides there is often a more dominant female, who is the eldest and most wisest member of the group. usually one or two lionesses will stay back and become broodmothers if the group has cubs, and the rest will go out to hunt. whilst lioness prides are unlimited within the roleplay, they should not be permanent and go on to find a male eventually for their protection and survival. if they have cubs they should be more wary.

a pride of lions is made up in a very specific structure. there are usually four males within a pride. one male is the most dominant, he is referred to as the โ€œkingโ€. althought there may be tension amongst the males as who is crowned king, the strongest, most dominant and often the eldest male will take the position. the remaining males are referred to as subordinate males. the most important members of the pride are the lionesses, there may be up to several of them, often around a dozen but there can be more. one lionesses, who is often the eldest and wisest, is referred to as the โ€œqueenโ€. lionesses within a pride are mostly related, as female cubs often remain within their birth pride, creating a pride of mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, aunties, the list goes on. despite their lionesses that are unrelated are still common within the pride. lionesses are responsible for sourcing food within the pride, and play an important role. there may be several cubs within a pride at one time, as cubs are generally all born around the same time. male cubs often remain with their prides until around the age of two or three, before they are chased. although most lionesses hunt, there are generally a few broodmothers within a pride whom of which take care of the cubs whilst the other lionesses go out to hunt. the final members are the elders, they are often old lionesses, very rarely males.

within the serengeti where the lions reside, their is a waterhole which is a common place for prey to gather, therefore the lionesses love to hunt there. however when the waterhole begins to dry up, they also love to hunt throughout the plains. each week lions will gain 40% hunger, and certain carcasses will be able to fill up a lion by certain percentages. when a lion reaches 80% hunger, if they arenโ€™t to eat properly soon it could be fatal. i will bold important information about each prey, including how many lionesses it takes to hunt one, the serving size of the carcass and how much each serving will fill up a lion.

โŒ‘ the waterhole

common prey: within the waterhole, this prey is the most common for lionesses to find.

buffalo: in order to successfully hunt a buffalo, a hunting party of four to five lionesses must be sent out. an adult buffalo is dangerous and is quite the task to hunt, therefore lionesses should target weaker or older individuals. it could take all day to hunt a buffalo and then drag the carcass back. an adult buffalo carcass provides a big meal, and provides six servings. a buffalo carcass provides 60% hunger to both lions and lionesses, and provides full 100% hunger to cubs and elders.

elephant calf: elephant calves are easy prey for lionesses. a hunting party of only one or two lionesses is required. although elephant calves are easy to hunt, it can be very dangerous hunting around a herd of fully grown elephants, so lionesses must still be wary. an elephant calf carcass can provide five servings. it provides 60% hunger for both lions and lionesses, and full 100% hunger to cubs and elders.

gazelle: whilst a gazelle is very fast and requires alot of stalking as they are timid prey, they are one of the most harmless common prey to hunt. only one to two lionesses are required to take down a gazelle. although a gazelle carcass is small and only provides two servings, it provides 60% hunger for lions and lionesses and full 100% hunger for cubs and elders.

kob: a kob is also fairly easier prey, but it is slightly larger than a gazelle so it takes a hunting party of two to three lionesses to successfully take down a kob. male kob are more risky to hunt than female kobs. a kob carcass provides a decent meal, it provides around four servings. it provides 60% a hunger for both lions and lionesses and full 100% hunger for cubs and elders.

kudu: kudus are a larger but more lean species of antelope, they arenโ€™t very fast runners but they can put up a fair fight to a lioness which is why a hunting party of four to five lionesses is required. it is a large meal, providing six servings. however because the meat is leaner and less filling it only provides 40% hunger to both lions and lionesses and 60% hunger to cubs and elders.

nyala: female nyalas are small and petite, whilst the males are much larger and more riskier to hunt, therefore lionesses generally do not bring back male nyala carcasses. a female nyala requires a hunting party of one to two lionesses. it provides around four servings for a pride. it gives 30% hunger to both lions and lionesses and only 40% hunger to cubs and elders.

sable antelope: sable antelopes are a larger antelope, but they are not too risky to hunt. it takes two to three lionesses to hunt. a sable antelope carcass is fairly large, providing five servings for a pride. it offers 41% hunger for lions, 47% hunger for lionesses and also 47% for cubs and elders.

zebra: zebras are a common, favoured prey by lions as they are so common and appear in abundance. hunting a zebra is a tedious and tactical task however, therefore it takes two to three lionesses to hunt. it yields great rewards, offering up to six servings for a pride. it feeds lions well too, offering 60% hunger for lions and lionesses and and full 100% hunger for cubs and elders.

uncommon prey: within the waterhole, this prey is uncommon for lionesses to find.

half eaten elephant carcass: no hunting is required when it comes to this adult elephant carcass. it likely died of old age. however it is very difficult for lionesses to drag back home, which is why it takes a party of of two to three lionesses to bring home. most of the carcass has been eaten by scavengers and the meat is no where near fresh, it smells foul which is why it is not a favoured choice for the lions, and lionesses will only bring back the carcass if live prey is scarce. it provides a decent feed, offering up to six servings. it offers 20% hunger to lions, and 25% for lionesses, cubs and elders.

oryx: the oryx is a large but fragile antelope with long sharp horns that could easily pierce a lioness, lionesses are quite wary to hunt an oryx and they are not a very common species, which is why they are an uncommon prey item. it takes a hunting party of two to three lionesses to take down an oryx. the carcass provides a decent feed, providing four servings. it offers 30% hunger to both lions snd lionesses and 40% for cubs and elders.

red river hog: the red river hog is a small pig, often reffered to as a bush pig. whilst easy to hunt it is elusive and shy, and sparingly exposes itself at the waterhole, which is why it is an uncommon prey item. it only takes one to two lioness to bring down a red river hog. it is a small carcass providing a meal for only one lion. it offers 30% hunger to both lions and lionesses and 50% to cubs and elders.

rhebok: the rhebok is a small and elusive antelope. they are very easily startled and can flee with great speed, making the, difficult to catch. it takes two to three lionesses to bring down a rhebok. it provides a meal for three lions. it offers 25% hunger to lions and lionesses and 35% to cubs and elders.

rare prey: within the waterhole, this prey is rare for lionesses to find.

giraffe: depsite their great height, lionesses still manage to take down a giraffe. their long legs can become easily tangeled and tired whilst the lion is grabbing onto their legs, which causes them to fall to the ground once of which the lioness will target the throat. it takes four to five lionesses to hunt. a giraffe carcass is a great reward, providing ten servings of food to a pride. it offers 50% hunger to all ages and gender of lion.

hippo: to hunt a hippo is incredibly dangerous for lions, therefore it requires four to five lionesses to take down a hippo. it is extremely rare for lionesses to bring back a a hippo carcass due to how dangerous it is. if they ever do, the hippo would have been very weak, old or had just recently passed away. it is a large carcass that offers seven serves of food. it fills lions and lionesses up by 40% and cubs and elders by 60%.

hippo calf: whilst bringing back a hippo calf isnโ€™t as rare as bringing back a fully grown hippo, it is still very rare as mothers fiercely protect their young and attempting to hunt a calf can be dangerous work too. although it is more likely because there are chances the calf is lost or abandoned, allowing the lionesses to make a move. it takes two to three lionesses to hunt a hippo calf. the carcass has three servings of food. it provides 40% to lion or lionesses. it provides 60% hunger to cubs and elders.

tsessebe: tsessebe are not considered rare because they are dangerous to hunt, it is more because they are more elusive prey and less common in the wild than they used to be. it takes two to three lionesses to successfully hunt down a tsessebe and the carcass provides four servings of food. it offers 31% hunger to lions and 38% hunger for lionesses, cubs and elders.

โ˜… the plains

common prey: within the plains, this prey is the most common for lionesses to find.

dik dik: the dik dik is a very small species of antelope and only requires one to two lionesses to hunt, as it is very easy to hunt. the carcass is small, providing only one serving of food. it offers 25% of hunger to all lions, regardless of age or gender.

hartebeest: the hartebeest is a medium sized antelope, and whilst it has horns they arenโ€™t too long and are unlikely to injure a lion, they are fairly easy prey to catch. but because of its larger size, it takes a hunting party of two to three lionesses to successfully take down a hartebeest. the medium sized carcass provides three servings of food. it offers 60% hunger to both lions and lionesses, and full 100% hunger to cubs and elders.

red fronted gazelle: whilst a red fronted gazelle is very fast and requires alot of stalking as they are timid prey, they are one of the most harmless common prey to hunt. it is a smaller and more lean gazelle than a standard gazelle. only one to two lionesses are required to take down a red fronted gazelle. although a red fronted gazelle carcass is small and only provides two servings, it provides 30% hunger for lions 35% lionesses and 35% hunger for cubs and elders.

kob: a kob is also fairly easier prey, but it is slightly larger than a gazelle so it takes a hunting party of two to three lionesses to successfully take down a kob. male kob are more risky to hunt than female kobs. a kob carcass provides a decent meal, it provides around four servings. it provides 60% a hunger for both lions and lionesses and full 100% hunger for cubs and elders.

springbok: springboks are a medium size gazelle, as their name suggests, they can jump incredibly high and scale long distance in one jump. therefore, whilst it may be a smaller prey it still takes two to three lionesses to successfully hunt a springbok. it is a small and lead carcass, providing only two servings of food. it offers 40% hunger to lions and 50% hunger to lionesses, cubs and elders.

warthog: warthogs are a particularly favoured prey by lions, and they are relatively easy to catch, sometimes they may even try to dig themselves under ground, but if a lionesses is quick enough it should still be a successful hunt. it only takes one to two lionesses to hunt a warthog. whilst the carcass is small, only providing one serving of food, it fairly filling. It offers 60% hunger to both lions and lionesses, and full 100% hunger to cubs and elders.

wildebeest: wildebeest are very common prey across the plains. the adults are large and will put up a decent fight, therefore it takes a hunting party of four to five lionesses to succesfully bring down a wildeebest. the carcass is rewarding, offering six servings of food. it will also feed a lion well, offering 60% hunger to lions and lionesses, and full 100% hunger to cubs and elders.

wildebeest calf: wildebeest calves are very common during the wet season as that is generally when they are being born. they are weak and vunerable prey and are easy to take down. it takes a hunting party of two to three lionesses to bring down a wildbeest calf and the carcass provides three servings of food. if offers 40% hunger to lions and 60% hunger to lionesses, cubs and elders.

zebra: zebras are a common, favoured prey by lions as they are so common and appear in abundance. hunting a zebra is a tedious and tactical task however, therefore it takes two to three lionesses to hunt. it yields great rewards, offering up to six servings for a pride. it feeds lions well too, offering 60% hunger for lions and lionesses and and full 100% hunger for cubs and elders.

It offers 20% hunger to lions, and 25% for lionesses, cubs and elders.

blesbok: the blesbok is a medium to large sized antelope, with a distinctive white blaze on the front of its face. since the blesbok is large, but not overly large, it only takes two to three lionesses to successfully hunt a blesbok. the carcass is fairly generous, offering four servings of food. it provides 53% hunger to males, 47% to lionesses and 41% to cubs.

spekeโ€™s gazelle: the spekeโ€™s gazelle is the smallest known antelope species, making it relatively easy to hunt. it only takes one to two lionesses to successfully hunt and take down a spekeโ€™s gazelle. however they are more shy and alert prey, therefore they can be harder to stalk. the carcass is small offering three servings of food with little hunger fill. it offers 40% to lions and 50% to lionesses, cubs and elders.

rare prey: within the waterhole, this prey is rare for lionesses to find.

the serengeti national park is considered heaven for africaโ€™s wildife. it is a lush ecosystem with territory spanning over twelve thousand square miles (around thirty thousand square kilometres). the largest migration of mammals occurs within the seregenti, which demonstrates its abundance of prey for the lions. the serengeti offers warm and dry climtaes during the dry season, with rainier weather during the wet season. the serengeti has many different biomes all within the one national park. it has altitudes ranging from three thousand to six thousand feet (around nine hundred metres to two thousand metres) which creates newer biomes. the serengeti is even considered to be divided into two parts, as some areas have more vegetation than others. the two areas are the woodlands and the grasslands. the woodlands contain biomes that are filled with trees and vegetation, whilst the grasslands accomodate for plains and vast open spaces. because of its one active volcano, ol doinyo lengai, the serengeti has granite are rocky outcrops across the park.

โ™š the two seasons of the serengeti, the wet and the dry

the serengeti offers very nice temperatures, because although it is a drier savannah type biome, it is never too hot, the temperatures are generally fairly warm and mild. the mornings and night both have cooler temperature drops. the serengeti has two seasons, the wet season and the dry season. during the dry season there is little rain, whilst during the wet season rainfall is common and plant life flourishes. lionesses may be in hest throughout any time during the year, however courtship is usually synchronised with the formation of a new pride or with the seasons.

it is currently the wet season in the months november to december

the dry season:

the dry season offers warm days with cool mornings and nights. despite being named the dry season, this does nor describe the heat of the season, but rather the lack of rainfall.
june to september: temperatures are fairly mild with no uncomfortably warm days. the night can become very cool, with temperatures even reaching freezing. these months of the dry season are fairly quite as there are no mass migrations occuring. however during the start of the months, from june to july the lionesses are likely giving birth as courtship is often synchronised so cubs can be born before the wet season begins and mothers would of had supple prey during their pregnancy.
october: october is a very quite month in the dry seasons, the temperatures are fairly similar to the other months however slight rainfall may occur if the rains of the weat seasons start to begin early.

the wet season:

the wet season has slightly warmer temperatures with the dry season and alot of rainfall. therefore climate can become slightly humid. the wet season is very active very migrations and abundant prey.
november to december: this is a very active month as the wildebeest begin their mass migrations. this is a perfect opportunity for the lions as many become injured, dehydrated or die of starvation which are easy hunting conditions for the lions. rain is short and unpredictable throughout the two months, but the rainfall is fairly short. lions are likely in courtship season at this stage.
january and february: during january wildebeest may still be migrating, so hunting opportunities are still high. as february approaches most of the wildbeest will have reached their destination and some cows may begin to calf. once again this is a easy hunting opportunity as calves are young and vunerable. rains may be either short or long during this month, with hot dry spells inbetween.
march to may: lionesses that were breed in the beginning of the wet season will now begin to have their cubs. wildebeest are still giving birth aswell so there is still a good source of food. these months are the wettest months and chances of rainfall is very high. the rain is long and often occurs during the end of the day. as april approaches, temperatures may return to their cooler state to prepare for dry season once again.

โ™› buuxa had been snoozing underneath a tall but skinny fever tree. his jaws gaped into a long and drawn out yawn, exposing his large canines and shortly after he lightly sneezed. buuxa blinked his eyes lazily as he peered around the savannah, the sky was painted with red and orange hues. it was only just dawn, and it was the beginning to a new day. buuxa has been split from his previous coalition for a few days now and he was beginning to adapt to life as a lone lion. but it was nothing easy, and buuxa knew he ought form a pride of his own sooner or later. the scent of a carcass was on the air and the smell greatly intrigued buuxa. he followed his nose, only to lead him to a scrawny carcass of some type of antelope not far from the tree he rested beneath. mustโ€™ve been the work of a leopard, and the carcass had now fell from the tree. he was suprised he hadnโ€™t of noticed it earlier or even seen the leopard. whilst not much eating, the carcass was decently fresh. he crouched down and lay beside the carcass and begin to eat his feed. once his belly was full he raised his head, and already pesky flies began to swarm around his muzzle. he swayed his head angrily and flicked his tail in annoyance. itโ€™s always the tiniest creatures that are the most annoying. his mind returned the thought of a pride, and he knew the time of the wet season was the perfect time. there is no time to waste, and he knew he would have to begin searching. as he began to pad along away from the fever tree, he began to let out a deep rumble from within his throat, hoping to advertise his presence to other lions.

โ™› lesedi had been on the prowl since the night, following her nose of a herd of dik dikโ€™s trail. she persevered, and although she had been walking for a few hours now, she knew they were close. she could smell the scent of the herd and it was beginning to become more and more stronger. she peered into the distance, the foliage was becoming more dense. dik dik loved to rest in shady areas full of low lying shrubs and trees in order to feel safe. but they couldnโ€™t fool her she knee that was exactly where the herd must be located. she decided to approach the area side on, not wanting to be seen by the herd or any other animals for that matter. she crouched down low amongst the tall cream coloured grass, her pelt almost blending in as if it was identical in colouration. soon enough she was close enough to be able to spot the herd. the dik dik were quietly grazing on the grass that was spotted with morning dew. she crouched down even lower now, almost laying down, she needed to examine the herd. carefully she examined each of several members, trying to find a weak or young one. although it wasnโ€™t the time for young to be born, it was certainly a time of courtship which meant the males had been sparring. soon enough she spotted a smaller, weaker male. he was bruised and cut, likely injured by a stronger male. now having chosen her pick, lesedi began to close in on the herd. with stealth and silence, she came closer towards her target, just a few more metres now and she would be in the perfect range. now only metres from her prey, her hind legs began to lightly shuffle behind her as she prepared to pounce. swiftly she pounced on the small antelope, as it was small it offered little struggle for her to keep down, and within a few seconds she managed to successfully take down her prey. the surrounding dik dik began to flee in a hurry. she quickly carried her fresh kill into the shrubs and began to eat quickly before the news got around to the hyenas.

โ™› binah childishly rolled around in the damp grass. dawn was always her favourite time of the day as she loved to roll around in the cool morning dew that stuck to tiny blades of grass. as she was rolling around binah noticed several grasshoppers hopping around on every angle around her as they desperately tried to avoid being squashed. she quickly rolled onto her stomach and back onto her feet, letting out a playful growl. with her tail tip flickering with excitement she began to eagerly pounce of the grasshoppers. whilst she was generally unsuccessful as many were able to jump or fly away, she still found some enjoyment in the act. however grasshoppers get boring quite quickly, and not only to mention slightly tiresome. she padded over to a rock that was beginning to grow warm underneath the suns rayโ€™s. she brushed her cheek fur against the rock before pouncing atop of it. stretching out her paws, her claws becoming unsheathed, before flopping down upon the rock. she watched out on the plains ahead of her as she lay her head atop her paws.
