bengt was the youngest of 5 kids, with 3 sisters a brother, and a father,
all so distant that they were pretty much strangers to him. by the time
he was old enough to leave home, he bought a few sheep, and moved o
ut to the countryside to become a shepherd. he has around 40 or so she
ep now and only comes down to the town a couple times a week to buy
food and sell milk, cheese, wool, and the occasional sheep. sadly it see
ms he has a closer bond to his sheep than he ever had with his family si
nce none of his relatives have ever even visited him. but in all fairness,
he's never thought to visit them either. lately he's been feeling a bit los
t, so he's taken to daydreaming of far away lands with sandy fields, stor
my seas with serpents hidden under the waves, etc. so when he heard n
ews of the king's project(it took a while for word to pass to him), he fig
ured he had not much to lose.

so what's bengt doing here? to say that he looks out of place is... a hug
e understatement. surely he's just a country boy with a big imagination,
getting himself wound up in unnecessary trouble? well... probably yes.
apart from having no fighting experience, or much of any experience a
t all, he's got one thing going for him that will hopefully give him an ad
vantage, which is his ability to work with animals. not that dragons and
sheep are remotely similar but he can at least hope he's got a chance.

idealistic, empathetic, and probably a little bit stupid, bengt is often o
verlooked and taken advantage of. more than once he's left the market
with a horrible deal because he simply trusts people too easily. despite
being gentle and somewhat soft spoken, he's brave in his own way and
is not afraid to do what he believes is the right thing to do, even if odds
are against it; this can sometimes frustrate people who are maybe a lit
tle bit more realistic. generally he's a guy who's been trying for the lon
gest time to find a place where he belongs that isn't just by himself in t
he world and now he's just taking life altering measures to do so.

the male is a wild dragon and thus doesn't like to mingle much with hum
ans or even other dragons very much if at all. shan is rather aloof and di
stant from others after the death of his mate and his hatchlings. he hold
s a rather large grudge against the humans for their deaths and tends to
attack people trespassing in his section of the mountains. shan is a very t
erritorial male and will not tolerate any other males in his area, but isn't
as aggressive towards females, though he isn't quite ready to move on fr
om his lost mate. he lives alone and enjoys the peace and quiet, but also
misses the companionship he had with his lost mate as well as the chaos
that would ensue when his hatchlings had been alive. they had been his l
ife and he had lost them all. he's mourned them for years and is slowly l
earning to overcome the sorrow. he hopes that one day he can find a fem
ale worthy enough to be his mate and once again try to raise hatchlings.
