My 9 month old pup doesn’t bother with our tree but was curious about the presents when we put them under a few days ago, all I had to do is tell her “leave it” (because she knows that command) but you could either train your dog with treats and such to leave the tree alone or you could spray the tree with ‘dog repellent’ type of spray, which they don’t like.

What is it that your dog does in specific?

Okay so, we have a live tree, never had a fake one and probably never will. Knowing her, she'd prob leave it alone if it was fake, but I guess she must like its smell because the girl is definitely curious about it. It's not fully decorated, just a few ornaments and one strand of lights, which she doesn't seem to care about. Instead, she wants to chew the needles. I thought she'd ignore it, she does know the leave it command, so, I kept telling to leave it alone, but every time I turn my around she's back over there! It’s very frustrating, especially because I’m worried about it making her sick. I know they aren’t necessarily deadly, but obviously I don’t want it irritating her stomach or gums. Maybe I should just keep being persistent. Unfortunately, my mom doesn’t have much patience when it comes to things like this, so, yeah...., Is there a homemade one you can make? I just don’t know why she wants to eat it? We’ll see if my mom can be patient. She’s not really a dog person.

Some dogs, even more so the young ones, like the smell of live trees and the soil in the flower pot, and ornaments and such make it interesting, it is something new or something they only did see for short days/month a year and human are more nervous or strange in this season, so they want to know why....and taste it, some like to chew this trees because they like the taste...

When it is a natural tree it should not make them sick when they only eat a tiny bit^^ but you always could ask your vet.
maybe when she does not follow the command leave then add something....like when she still goes there, tell her to stop and to go back some steps, or take her at her collar and bring her calmly to her place after a firm no or leave it,or some steps ack where she can stay and watch ...but stay nice and calm (best way is when not, to go out of room and screem silently in a pillow till calm and happy again)....even when this can take 2 to 100 trys... :) and when she trys to get up again tell her to go back, till you say she can walk around again. But make a invisible line around the tree...till there she can go, but one step over you or one of family brings her back to her place or behind the line without much talk.... most often you only need to do this two or four times, then you only may need to say nohhh...or back or give hand sign....and then often she will stay behind, away from tree, and just sit or lie there and watch. First time she does stop, be happy and tell her how good she is with a treat or toy.
When she is fast maybe put a bell at her harness to hear her, and a thin rope/leash, so you an stop her more fast and lead her away to her place or atleast back behind the invisible line around the tree. We had the problem when our terrier where young that they did try to play with the ornament or put bone in the soil^^

Or put a blanket near the tree for her to lie on and watch the tree, you and your family, can smell it, or to go to when she is silly and trys to eat the tree.^^
She can sniff the tree when you tell her she can and you are there, but not when alone, but no jumping the tree, pawing or biting, then she is send away again and cant go near or sleep near it. Not sure if this did help or you understand what i did try to say^^
Please klick them or they will die°°!!!

I have spent so much money on my animals this Christmas.... it’s bad.
But since I won’t be traveling to see family this year, they’re all I got 😂

Small vent/ rant
I hate hearing about people I know personally/ really well getting a dog breed I KNOW they can't handle/ take care of properly uwu
Like, I can't do anything about it and I know the dog is gonna suffer and eventually be given away or something because of it .

Sigh, well, all I can do is hope the dog gets the proper training and energy outlets it needs ..

The only thing I have to say is read the 'perfect puppy in 7 days' book! The authors name is Dr. Sophia Yin.
I read it before I got my aussie pup, Mazie, and its the best book I've ever read on dogs.

My dogs got their Christmas present early this year! A new crate stand so the three smaller dogs can all have new big crates! All four got new blankets too. Building it was a real challenge but I’m super proud of how it turned out and how much easier this is gonna make my life!

Bones’ offleash work has been coming along so nicely lately, I walked him through my moms neighborhood today which I’ve never done before but he did fantastic!

What made you decide on a Groen? What are you gonna do with it?

hi. about 5 or 6 years ago my friend adopted a Groenendael, and i fell in love with her dog, and the breed in general. since then, ive wanted one. i think ive read every piece of info about the breed there is lol.

i don't plan to do anything with her besides having a fluffy best friend :)) i am excited to have a hiking partner though.

Bucky Barnes:
What made you choose such a high energy breed as a pet dog? Does your breeder breed specifically towards lower drive dogs? Just trying to get a better idea what sort of drive levels you are expecting from the breeding so I can give you advice lol.

@.middy

i mean, i didn't choose the breed because of their energy level, although i am very much aware. i chose the breed because i think they're absolutely beautiful, incredibly smart, loving and an amazing dog overall. i am expecting a high drive dog, although my breeder knows we're looking for companion only and is placing us with a lower drive dog. still, i am expecting lots of energy and i'm prepared. i have plenty of time and space to train and exercise, and i would say i'm pretty active, or at least have the potential to be with a high energy dog who needs exercise. and as i mentioned, i'm excited to take her on hikes when she gets a little older.
