Warblewhisker's tail flicked as he waited for Fuzzribbon. He'd found his way into the clan quite by accident. He'd been a house cat up until three moons ago, when his twolegs had stopped coming home. He'd tried to follow their scents (had failed miserably) and had ended up wandering outside of the twolegplace lost and confused as a lost sparrow chick.
Until he'd wandered into the burnt forest. He'd been found by a group calling themselves Phoenixclan, and had essentially decided to join them for the pure sake of he had nothing else to do and he was too far lost to ever find his twolegs again.
Alright maybe not the best logic, but Fuzzribbon had literally abandoned her twolegs to make sure the forest was alright after she learned it had burnt down, so really, not like he had the worst track record here. His twolegs had left him.
Pricking his ears as the curly-haired she-cat approached him, Warblewhisker called out a greeting. Fuzzribbon beamed at him, and called "You ready to go?"
Warblewhisker nodded, tail flicking slightly. This was to be his first hunt as a warrior in the clan. He'd gotten his 'warrior name' a few days ago, but hadn't been sent out on any duties yet. Fuzzribbon was going to be his guide to the rest of the territory as the two went hunting.
Glancing at Blazingstripe, who was padding after Daisykit, Warblewhisker asked "I won't have to watch Daisykit anymore now will I?" Fuzzribbon looked at the tom in confusion. "Of course you will, he doesn't have a mother, so the whole clan takes care of him. And since you've joined the clan, well...you've committed. The clan takes care of itself, and everyone in it. Until Daisykit is six moons old, we're all going to take turns watching over him."
Warblewhisker sighed, and decided to change the topic. He'd learned quickly that Fuzzribbon was very attached to the young kitten, and he didn't want her thinking he didn't care. He didn't mind Daisykit persay, he just...didn't like spending time with kits.
Shaking out his fur, Warblewhisker quickly asked "Ready to head out?"
Fuzzribbon narrowed her gaze at him, but nodded.
Warblewhisker sighed. This was going to be a loooong hunt.

Blazingstripe's tail flicked as he hopped through the forest, Lotusstar beside him. It had been almost eight suns since Warblewhisker had joined Phoenixclan, and she had asked to talk with him privately. He wasn't sure what about, and was feeling rather nervous.
Finally arriving in a part of the forest that seemed more heavily burnt than most, Lotusstar paused, snapping her tail and dragging it through the cold ashes, stirring up black dust.
At first, Blazingstripe was confused, then as he watched, the black dust began to glow brightly. Then it flared into flames, and Blazingstripe staggered back, staring in shock as the flames took on the shape of wings, and a bright orange cat shone into place.
At the same time, the dust that didn't glow seemed to grow even darker, and a black cat appeared out of the dust.
"Phoenix, Banshee." Lotusstar said in greeting.
Blazingstripe suddenly felt very, very worried.
Lotusstar kept talking "I've brought Blazingstripe before you today for a very specific reason."
oh ancestors she's going to have them kill me.
"I wish for your approval to make him my deputy."
what.
"Wait, Lotusstar, what?" Blazingstripe heard himself ask.
Lotusstar turned to him and smiled. "You've proven yourself a fine warrior, I see no need to ask Phoenix...or Banshee, for a deputy, when a fine one is already in my clan."
Before Blazingstripe could think of an answer (seriously, what do I say to THAT??) Banshee prowled forward, sniffing the air around him and growling. Her tail lashed as she hissed "I sense doubt in him. A Second in Command should never doubt. Doubt leads to dissent, doubt leads to death." she shook her head "He is not ready. Did you even tell him why you were bringing him here?"
Lotusstar shifted on her paws and shook her head. "I wanted it to be a surprise." she admitted "I didn't-"
"Want to give him the chance to say no?" Banshee purred, amused. She looked over Blazingstripe again with her coal red eyes and snorted "The kit would make a better deputy. But, it is his choice, as much yours. What do you say three-legged-warrior?"
Blazingstripe's ear flicked at the jab, but remained silent. He...Lotusstar wanted him to be deputy? To be leader after she died. Blazingstar has a nice ring to it.... one part of his mind whispered. Unless you die first replied the other half.
Banshee was still studying him, eyes narrow. Phoenix was simply watching him, waiting to see what he would do. Digging his claws into the dirt, Blazingstripe took a deep breath. "Lotusstar, if you really want me as your deputy, I won't refuse. But...well, you say you think I'm the best choice, but there's only seven of us, and four cats in the clan can't be deputy, you, Cherrydroplet, Rhododendronpaw, or Daisykit...which leaves Me, Fuzzribbon, and Warblewhisker as your choices. How can you say I'm the best choice when your choices are so limited?"
Lotusstar tilted her head "Alright...." she conceded "What would you have me do then? Phoenix and Banshee are here, would you have me ask one of them send a worthy deputy?"
Blazingstripe shook his head "No...you're right in that you should choose a deputy of the clan, and I would be honored to be it. But you should know the real best choice before you choose me. I propose you wait another six moons before choosing a deputy. That'll put Phoenixclan in its tenth moon, right? Choose from the clan then. But don't choose someone who joined that moon or the moon before, it should be a cat with at least two moons experience in the clan, if not more. Choose me then if you will, but if the chance for a better cat comes?"
Lotusstar studied Blazingstripe for several silent heartbeats, then nodded. "Very well. I will do as you say. You are a wise cat Blazingstripe, and a fine warrior. I doubt there is any better cat than you to be found to be my deputy."

Daisykit let out a laugh of joy as Rhododendronpaw shot a mossball across the clearing for him. Taking off after it, the long-haired tomkit bounded across the camp, tackling the ball with his forepaws and rolling slightly as he nipped at it. Purring, the blue tabby carried it proudly back to the apprentice.
Rhododendronpaw and Cherryblossom were watching him while the other cats were out on their duties. He'd been stuck with Warblewhisker the past few days, and the new tom was boorrriinnng.
He didn't want to play badger, or fox, or Clan, or mouse hunt, or moss ball or ANYTHING!
Daisykit still couldn't believe it. Who didn't want to play anything? Even Lotusstar played with him!!!!
But it was ok, because soon Daisykit would be an apprentice, like Rhododendronpaw, and then he would be a warrior! And he could show Warblewhisker that warriors could play too!
