I sometimes have a collar on Chloe during the day when I'm here. It has bells on it so we can know where she is so she doesn't get stepped on. She has gotten her claws caught in it though so I don't leave it on her when I'm not around to supervise. When I'm not here I use a safety collar https://safedogid.com/. She's also chipped.

My late dog Gumdrop wore her collar all day without incident.

Also, keep in mind the laws based on region. Where I live, if a dog is found by animal control without their licensing tag on (and therefore a collar), the owner may be fined. The microchip also has this licensing information, but there's still a chance you may be fined without the actual tag. Alongside this, a lot of rescues nearby won't adopt out an animal unless you have an ID tag and collar with you for them (though they also sell them on-site). It's a safety issue most of the time, though breakaway collars are definitely the way to go (fancier non-breakaway options are also fun aesthetically for those with the luxury of being with their dogs 24/7).

ah, I’m really sorry araphen if you felt I was preaching - honestly I don’t mean any bitterness towards anyone <3

// personally I’ve just heard about so many accidents regarding dogs and collars and even though a lot of collars being sold are breakaway collars, they can still malfunction and buckle collars are still quite popular. I was just trying to emphasis the danger ‘tis all ^^ collar-related deaths/injuries are more common than people might think, and I like to try prevent unnecessary harm if it can be helped.

There aren’t many people I know personally that keep their collars on their dogs where I live. There are a lot of livestock and farms around this area, and the general rule locally is to have your dog trained enough that they won’t run off. I would be incredibly surprised if one of my dogs managed to get out of my house, so I don’t feel the need to have a collar on them.

Of course they all wear collars when we are out hiking/doing agility as there is a significant increase of the chance that something could happen and they’d get separated from me, but I feel that if you secure your house properly, there isn’t really a reason to risk having a collar on an unattended kiddo.

^^ I’ll admit I’m also v. protective over my dogs so I can come across as a little overbearing. So I’m really sorry if I’ve offended anyone ^^ I guess I’m lucky enough that I’m confident if my dog ever did get picked up by a rescue that they’d be returned to me c:

On a separate note, does anyone here have a rough collie/know a rough collie?

I work with a local vet [workshadowing] on my weekends and recently a precious merle collie came in but she was absolutely tiny. Apparently she’s healthy and all that, just small. It’s odd because there’s another one at my regional team that’s also quite small and has a shorter muzzle [something not common for roughs] and I’m just wondering if rough collies are starting to get more sheltie-like.
So far Logan [my one] is the biggest one I’ve seen but he’s only 67cm at the shoulder, [absolute midget next to his father] which is relatively big for a collie but his entire breed line is also pretty large.

Hello all! This is my furbaby Olly! He is a year old lab (soon to be 2 years in January!) He is 85 lbs of pure love. He loves socks, tennis balls, and swimming. Oh... and he also likes feet? His favorite sleeping position is on his back with his feet stretched straight into the air. He loves to whine when he wants attention and will even bark after a few minutes of being ignored...attention is his second favorite thing after BALL!! Olly is my hero as he survived a terrifying incident this summer (I'm willing to share if anyone would like to hear the story). He calms me and he is quite literally my child... acts the toddler part and all. I love my baby Olly!!
P.S. He's incredibly photogenic.

My baby hazel got spayed today !!
She is doing well, but groggy and a little sore .
We have no heat in our apartment rn so we have her in a sweater, in a room with a heater, and under a little blanket ( my boyfriend insisted on the blanket so he could cuddle with her lol ) .
I'm sure she appreciates us keeping her warm while she is sore and not fully into it .

Also !! The night before she met my boyfriend's parent's dogs !!! The old owners told us she was dog aggressive so we proceeded with tons of caution, and made sure to meet separately, in neutral grounds, and on leash . And honestly ?? She didn't act with and aggression . She did very well and even played rlly well with their pup !! I'm so proud of her . I would never take her to a dog park, as I feel she would never be comfortable with that but I'm so happy she has some doggy friends finally !!

hey everyone, my mutt, loki, turned six months old yesterday and I must say, I am feeling it, definitely when I left him alone for ten minutes and I came home to my floor ripped up xd. but, deep, deep down, he's a sweetheart.
just reminiscing when he was tiny, well behaved and cute and thought I would share.

this was loki at three months old and my good old seven year old rat oscar:

we've been on a few adventures this year too, the mutts went on a 13 hour car ride to cornwall for a little beach holiday and did so well.

    Image

and we've been training for a walking trip, so gone on a few 16-20 mile hikes in the hills.

first post here! here's a little about myself <3

i've been a dog owner my entire life, but started "getting into" dogs when i was around 12. my grandparents breed cavalier king charles spaniels and have been doing so for over 40 years. we are reputable breeders and are registered with akc ( american kennel club ) i got my boy dylan when he was a few months old. i trained him myself and i show him in the cavalier club ( northeast and southeast ) and i also show him in akc. i've been showing my dogs for almost 10 years now! dylan is a registered champion and has sired a few litters! he is now seven years old and my first actual dog. he sired a litter three years ago and that is where i got my little girl, elizabeth, lizzy or lizzard as i call her. she's three years old and has five other siblings! her sister, bootsie lives with us as does their mom, and their mom's sister. one of my other girls, snapchat, had her first litter three day's ago! she has four beautiful pups, three black and tan's, and one blenheim. there were two stillborns in her litter, but it was a long and VERY stressful day of delivering! i have another boy, hubbell who is a grand champion in akc, and another boy snagglepuss who is also a grand champion! he was placed with another family as he developed a heart murmer and we couldn't use him as a stud. he went with someone who owned one of our other dogs, and it passed away so we were more than happy to sell him to her!

so that's a bit about me, i know a decent amount about dogs, so if anyone has any questions my messages are always open! <3 all photo's are taken by me and i do not allow the use of reposting at the moment!

one of the pups tests out his voice!

feel free to check out my website for other cute animal pictures nwn

here's another picture of one of the puppies, and a little video!
