Ripper noticed Shasta. "You look like you are in a lot of pain. What happened? Are you alright?"

As Alpha went out the entrance, he saw James and Ripper near Shasta. He let his hopes drain quickly, as he did with everything. "You'll never find happiness with that habit." Zasha's words filled his mind. He shook his head and stepped out of the cave and onto the wet grass of the foggy morning.

"It happened before I came here. My owners beat me and before I escaped they stomped on my foot and hit my side. I'm okay though, James gave me some healing stuff."Shasta explained, she noticed Alpha leave and then she glanced at James, then back at Ripper.

Alpha found Zasha scavenging around with two slabs of meat in her mouth.

Zasha spotted him. "Hey. You know we've lived here forever, and to think, if we had traveled just a little further we could of found this place. I mean check out the things you can just find. And for once, no blood spill. Here, eat." She nosed one of the slabs of meat toward Alpha as she started on her own.

Alpha grinned at her and started on his meat.

"That's awful! Humans can be so cruel. I would know. I'm Ripper by the way."

Zasha lay on her back looking up at the night stars. She sighed. "We've finally found a good place. Here, with others." Zasha said.

"Hm." Responded Alpha. "I'd like to get to know some of these dogs better." Alpha said. "Maybe tomorrow."

"Yeah, maybe." Zasha said. With a last heavy heave of her sides, Zasha's breathing slowed as she drifted to sleep.

Alpha stayed awake staring at the sky. The moon's beautiful view covered by clouds. He sighed and rolled onto his side. "Tomorrow seems so far away." He thought.

"what's your name?" Ripper asked, his tail wagging slightly. Despite his name he was a very friendly dog.

Alpha lifted his head. He looked around for a sign that anyone else was around, but he only saw Zasha. Alpha sighed. "Strange. Zasha and I finally found other dogs, and we've never had any other company, but this is the loneliest I've ever felt.... Besides..." He shook his head of the memory.

Zasha flicked her ear. "Alpha? Oh hey. You want to go meet some other dogs? You said yesterday you wanted to. Right?" She asked.

Alpha turned his head toward her. "I don't think anyone's awake really...." He said.
