Arrow [♂]-------------------Feather [♀]
The man approaced the entrace, he had at least twenty armed soldgiers following but he waved them off, insisting that he would go inside alone. Mistake number one. I shook my head with a slight smile crossing my face, nobody ever learns do they? I pressed myself against the cold cave wall and soundlessly shifted to the side to see this man better. He had black fur with strange red markings and eyes the same color as the sky. Sky blue, it's strange that after ten years of being in the cave that I can still remember the color. Never mind that, I need to focus.
Everything about him was screaming that he was confident he would rescue me and come back alive, the same look that so many others before him had. He glanced around the cave as if he owned this place and walked casually through the entrace, "Feather, I've come to rescue you from this terriable place. Come quickly and we will leave before the monster awakens!" I winced as his voice echoed around the room. Mistake number two.
I didnt budge from my place on the ledge, but he didnt appear to mind that I refused to suddenly burst into view and beg him to take me away. I silently hoped that he would leave while he still had the chance to but sadly he kept calling for me and wondering down the deep cave tunnels. Believe me, I had tried to save people before but it only seemed to make the situation worse.
Eventually he stopped yelling my name and just continued to explore the dark place but the confidence was still very ovbious on his face. He came across the monster's room and was about to enter, the mistake number three. The one that had killed many and the one that would kill him. I didnt realize how close I was to the edge until I had started to see the floor rush up to meet me.
I heard a loud high pitched sound echo across the room, it took me a moment to realize that it was me who made that noise. I landed with a thud to the ground, mostly unharmed from the experiance. Suddenly the man was running towards me with a proud grin on his face.
I stared in horror, how could I have been so careless? "Come on Feather, lets get out of here." He held his hand out to me but I just stared at it.
"No. You were supposed to die, you werent supposed to save me. How could I have let this happen?" I muttered, my voice was barely above a wisper.
His smile faultered as he pulled me up to my feet, "If I was supposed to die I would have been dead, everything happens for a reason." I nodded but I didnt agree. If everything happens for a reason, which it doesnt, why would I have been trapped in this cave watching people die before my eyes? I didnt have time to speak before the gray and white feathers wrapped around my tail fluttered slightly.
I was pulled out of my trance, I grabbed his arm and ran, forcing him to run along side me. "Run!" I yelled and only a second later a ear-splitting roar bounced along the cave walls. The distance to the cave opening seemed so close but yet so far, but freedom is always like that isnt it?
