Artax twitched when the painted mare touched her nose to his. He snorted softly and curled his neck, impressively. He eyed the mare's body language, making sure she was comfortable. "I'm Artax," he nickered, reaching out to touch Liberty's shoulder with his nose. She didn't have the scent of another stallion on her. "You're awfully beautiful to be out here all alone. I'm surprised there aren't stallions swarming you," he said. Artax snorted softly, moving down Liberty's side, sniffing her with a few reassuring nibbles along her back. A slight bit of apprehension made him wait before doing anything too brash. This mare clearly was interested and deep in heat but Artax didn't have any interest in getting kicked today if she just so happened to change her mind. With a swish of his tail, he nipped her in the rump and pranced off playfully, hoping to win her over with his personality rather than just claiming her. He let out a shrill whinny and flicked his tail, waiting for her to follow him toward the stream. His coat, though still patchy with his winter coat, began to gleam in some of the shed out places. For Artax's entire life it always took several months to shed out his coat and he had failed to charm many mares because of how scrappy he looked. The bay stallion had a feeling this would not be the case this time though. With no other interested stallions nearby, Artax felt confident in his strength and charm.

Cricket remained stiff although she felt more confident in Neptune's promise. The two mares who had helped her were murmuring about the stallion but Cricket didn't need her opinion to be swayed. "Alright then," she said, eyeing the stallion's muscles and thickly built neck. "My name is Cricket," she conceded eventually, and lowered her head only slightly. She couldn't help her stubborn attitude. "Before I join you," she began, cocking out her injured leg with a slight grimace. "You must promise not to cover me before I can stand on my own. If that doesn't happen before my heat is over than so be it," she said. Cricket had a feeling Neptune wouldn't mind. With all of the mares he had managed to attract, he should be content with all the foals he could produce minus Cricket. Her tail swished at a few flies that had started to swarm her wound and she snorted sharply as her leg began to sting. There would be no more hiding how much her leg hurt anymore. Using all of her strength not to give up and lay down in the cool grass beneath her, Cricket lowered her head, hoping to make herself more comfortable.

Aspen eyed the paint stallion, swishing her tail patiently. He seemed far more interested in the paint mare that was up the hill a little bit. But still he beckoned for her to come down to him. Her initial instinct told her to follow him. He wouldn't hurt her and chances are the mare wouldn't either unless she was the jealous type. That didn't comfort Aspen all that much but she didn't have all of spring to be picky. She needed a herd quickly despite her apprehensions. Only on her own for the last half of winter, Aspen knew it wouldn't be long before bears came out of their dens and the wolves had hangry pups to feed. Just go down, she told herself. With a swish of her tail, the little buckskin began picking her way toward the two paints. Trying not to seem overly interested, she nibbled on a few patches of grass here and there as she made her way toward the two. The stallion was awfully eager from the looks of him as he moved around the pinto mare. Aspen snorted at his confidence. It was cute in a way. She wasn't entirely sure why but she liked the look of him, at least from the few yards away she stood. A few swishes of her tail let her heat scent drift toward him and hopefully he'd find her a bit more interesting sooner rather than later.

Juniper noticed the mare pin her ears at her but decided to continue grazing nearby. The little bay mare was no threat to anyone and she really had only come to admire the foal. It had only been a few weeks since she had lost her foal to a cougar, and her belly was still large, trying to recover from the burden of carrying a foal for so many months. Juniper had often contemplated stealing a foal off another mare but her better judgement told her not to. It would cruel for any horse to do such a thing and just because her body ached for a baby of its own, didn't give her any reason to take another mare's foal. Juniper sighed as she munched on several blades of crisp spring grass. A few clouds seemed to be rolling in as she ate. It wouldn't be long before some showers blew through. A lone oak sat between Juniper and the mare. With a small sigh, she set off toward the shelter of the large branches of the tree, hoping she wouldn't be caught in the rain before she made it over there.

Although Dru was concerned for the malnourished paint colt, she knew there was nothing for her to do. The mare that Poppy called Cybele was probably the colt's best bet since she was nursing her own foal already. Still, Dru couldn't help but want to help the poor little guy. He was just a baby after all. She snorted softly and looked over to Poppy. "I'm gonna go check him out," she said with a grin. She was pleased to have found a nice group of mares to stick with until she could find a stallion. The last thing she wanted was to be caught by a predator all alone. Slowly Dru made her way over to the colt who lay seemingly unconscious in the tall grass. His belly rose and fell so he was alive at least. Gently, Dru nibbled on his short, foal mane, grooming him as best she could. No doubt his mother had been killed or he had wandered off and got lost. Either way, he'd never see her again. It was lucky he had found the group of mares to protect him.

Aleu found herself smiling at the stallion's words. He knew how to win a mare over quickly, that was for sure. However, this little mare would need some solid convincing to follow the first stallion she encountered. "I only cause trouble when I need to," she cooed with a few swishes of her cream tail. His muzzle tickled her neck and she twitched a little with a small snort. This seemed right. She had seen many mares courted by stallions before had never known how to do it on her own. Aleu sighed and let her instincts take over. Slowly, she circled the stallion, eyeing him closely. "My name is Aleu," she said as she made her way back to the front of him. He was very handsome. A bit taller than her too which of course was a plus. Aleu's dark eyes had a small mischevious sparkle in them as she swished her tail, her faint heat scent trailing through the valley. She knew her heat wouldn't be strong for awhile so her best bet for getting a stud was to be as enticing as she could.
