So I’m gonna assume my name will joy be added to the list, as the list hasn’t been updated in over a year, so I’m just gonna post.
I’m a reveluv, and I’m trying to get into other fandoms, but it has been difficult. I like RedVelvet because of their versatility and vocals (like they give me chills). I also love their stage presence and difficult dances, but those are second to their versatility and vocals to me. I’m trying to find other groups to get into, but I keep running into problems...
DISCLAIMER: Not ALL people are like how I’ve described. In fact I know many fans of other groups in real life, and they are super nice and I love them. When I joined my school’s KPOP club, I was worried (mainly about Blinks, as they seem to hate Reveluvs and other girl group stans on the internet), but everyone was super accepting and they haven’t pushed any group on me, only suggested songs. I don’t want anyone to feel offended, as my view of KPOP is still quite small as I’m like a newborn in this world. With that out of the way, here is my list:
1. I love RedVelvet’s weirder songs like Peek a Boo and RBB, and I’m having a hard time finding more groups with a similar style (just weird stuff tbh) to Red Velvet.
2. Most groups are really big. NCT, Twice, ect. I like smaller groups because I can learn the faces.
3. The groups I do end up enjoying (dances, songs, and weirdness), their fanbases like to cause wars with Reveluvs. (I’m looking at you BlackPink. The amount of times I’ve talked with Reveluvs about Wendy’s vocals or Seulgi’s dancing or Irene’s visuals, and a Blink has popped in and told me that Red Velvet could never be as good as BlackPink is ridiculous. Plus, the entire fandom seems really split, more than just “this is my bias”. Like they hate some of the members? What? Why? It’s why I hate OT4’s in Red Velvet. You can’t just have part of the group, they are a group for a reason!) Red Velvet is my ult group and probably always will be. They were my first group and I love them so much, so I can’t go hang out with people who want to hate me for liking them. (No toxic fandoms please!)
4. Sometimes everything is 100% fine with a group and it’s fandom, but 2019 has had a lot of group members leaving groups, and I keep stumbling upon groups who have recently lost a member, and the whole comment section is “I miss so and so” and “BRING BACK SO AND SO!” I’m not saying this is bad, I know how I’d feel if someone left Red Velvet (I would die), but it is hard to learn what people like from a group while they are still grieving. I don’t want to be like “Hi! I’m new! Why is everyone crying?” And be THAT person... It feels insensitive of me.
5. Girl groups who are too “let’s be over the top loving with one another”. Like I understand that cute is huge in Korea (I love Aegyo to be honest), but when they are over the top, it makes me feel uncomfortable. It’s why I like Red Velvet, because they are just right. They care about one another, but they show it in the little things they do (Irene getting the meat off the fish for her members, Wendy letting other members sleep on her, Ect.) I like that kind of group...
I’m not saying I want another Red Velvet, I just want a group with interesting music/concepts and a safe fandom, preferably a smaller group so I can learn their faces.
Other than Red Velvet I like Rocket Punch (Bim Bam Bum so much fun to dance to) and WayV (especially Moonwalk cause woah).
If you have any suggestions on who to try out, I would really appreciate it. It’s like I have me feet in the pool, and I’m scared to just jump into the deep end, so I need someone to help me walk from the stairs to the deep end, if that makes sense.
