At the front of the group, an argument had broken out. Atlanta had to restrain herself from jumping in immediately and separating the offending parties. The Phoenix Squad were adults capable of resolving their own issues. Leadership clashes were almost inevitable within a group this headstrong and independent, and interfering too early would only lead to simmering resentment. It was best to let them air out their frustrations through honest conversation.
However, as the conversation continued, it became more and more heated... quite literally. Rage in the form of fiery sparks shimmered on Jen's fingertips, a threat whether she intended it that way or not. Atlanta's face was an impassive mask of stone as she braced herself. At any sign of physical conflict, she would interfere immediately.
"Don't worry," She told Robin in a calm, quiet tone, reassuring her in case the conflict was stressing her out. "I trust this won't become physical, but if anything does happen then I'll handle it."

Gavotte calmed a little at Arys' encouragement. He'd really needed that spark of optimism, and the friendly werewolf always had a knack of brightening the mood. The team just wasn't complete without someone like her. "Thank you, Arys," He said, finding the confidence to smile.
People started contributing their ideas. Arys suggested Team Beta position themselves in a specific, known place, while Team Alpha would attack in two separate waves. Brenn added onto it, suggesting locations that were especially helpful to water and ice powers. Gavotte made eye contact with the ice-wielder and smiled in grateful acknowledgement. Alone their elements were already versatile, but together they would be even more formidable.
Jen started talking then, adding to the plan with great detail. Ideas shaped into vivid images with her elaborate words. Gavotte's smile widened - it warmed his heart that Jen seemed to be coming out of her shell.
His eyes wandered to Onyx, who earlier had mentioned cuffing the Prince. Before Gavotte could speak, however, Quinn's voice piped up. This wasn't a contribution to the plan though, it was an objection. It took a moment for his words to sink in, and by then Jen was already retaliating.
"Wait," He cried out, leaping between the arguing parties with uncharacteristic recklessness. His legs trembled with the paralyzing knowledge that he stood between a powerful telekinetic and a deadly firebender, but he refused to let his knees buckle now.
"Quinn, this... this isn't the time to be fighting," Gavotte managed, his voice tight with forced calmness. If only he had the Onetian trait to suppress his anxieties at will, this would be so much easier.
Soft blue eyes pleading, Gavotte turned from Quinn to Jen. He placed a hand on the fire-wielder's arm in an attempt to calm her flaring temper. "Please. We're still on the same side, about to face the Prince of Delra. Let's do it as a team, okay?"
The waterbender's shoulders sagged visibly with relief when Onyx spoke. They brought up their idea from earlier, but with none of the jest from before. Their voice was heavy with surprising seriousness.
"I trust you, Onyx. You're nimble, fast and clever, making you a great fit for the job." Confidence was returning to Gavotte's voice, though it remained soft and respectful. Something in Onyx's voice did worry him, however. "And... we're here to cover you. But that also means we won't let anything happen to you."
His eyes swept over the rest of Team Beta. A faint, encouraging smile spread across his face as he tried to make eye contact with his teammates. "Ah, if you have any other ideas... please don't be afraid to share."

Ardai acknowledged Caleb's gestures with his usual casual grin. No matter what happened, the prankster would back up his friends' plans. For now, he would try his best to improvise and stay silent when he couldn't.
The redhead gave Albin's hand a light squeeze. His friend seemed a little less upbeat than usual, probably because of the sticky predicament of running into an Onetian doctor and all. Ardai discreetly traced the letters 'H-E-C-K' on the back of Albin's hand, wanting to bring a bit of silliness into a stale situation. Heehee. You can't even tell the commander I swore, because technically I didn't say it, thought the self-proclaimed evil genius.
Dr. Beaumont didn't appear to notice his antics. He was deep in conversation with Caleb and Aisling, who had clearly won him over. Under the white coat and long-discarded stoic facade, the doctor seemed to have a Twodorian's heart. Maybe Onetians weren't as stuck up and fake as Ardai originally imagined.
"Young lad, you have been so well-mannered and kind. It warms my heart to meet people like you and your friends... it gives me hope for the next generation." The blonde man smiled up at Caleb, a genuine smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes. "I will certainly visit Justine soon, and perhaps put in a good word about you. I feel like you could be great pals."
Ardai noticed the irresistibly cute expression Aisling wore then. Oh boy. Don't look, Ardai! You might start crying, he told himself, willing his gaze away from her ridiculously cute puppy-dog eyes.
The doctor was visibly affected by it, placing both hands over his heart. Behind his glasses, watery grey eyes glistened with emotion. Aisling's act and words were certainly the final bat to the metaphorical piñata.
"Oh my... thank you, dear lass," Dr. Beaumont finally spoke, adjusting his glasses so he could dab at the corner of his eye. "Thank you for all your kind words, they truly warm my heart."
The Onetian reached into his pocket, then handed Aisling and Caleb each a business card. "In the future, please call me if you ever need anything at all... Help for a sick sister, advice, or even just a listening ear. Anyway, it is about time we part ways. I wish you all well, in your studies and in life. Please, take care."
Ardai watched him leave, deciding not to say anything personally. He didn't want to mess up the others' perfect performance. They'd succeeded after all, and won themselves an ally of sorts. It was oddly comforting to know somewhere in the world, there was a fatherly old Onetian in their corner.
Only when Dr. Beaumont had turned the corner and disappeared did Ardai speak. "Hey, we did it. I'm impressed you guys pulled that off, to be honest..." He said with a light chuckle. "Now, uh, who's gonna order in the store? I call not doing it."
