If you know enough to always be careful, and are wealthy enough to emulate its natural world, keep all the wild pets you want.
That means more than just fitting their basic needs. Imagine being on house arrest for the rest of your life.
Really the only people who can adequately own wild animals are zookeepers. You need a massive amount of space, food, and decorations (ie, trees and toys) to house a single creature, and you'll never be able to interact with them the way you do your dog or cat. You can do little bits of that if you have one heck of an impressive relationship, but if you get too close you
will end up seriously hurt because people just don't speak the body language of animals. It's very,
very complex. : / And the animals aren't going to give you the benefit of the doubt if you do something they perceive as threatening.

-All- wild animals have the potential to do this. Every last one. Not just monkeys.
What you may be thinking of is the extreme aggression of monkeys in puberty... I've heard about that. Still, it's not like a lion can't be unpredictable, or a wolf.
