the year is 6012, the humans almost completely perished nearly 2000 years ago, only a few surviving, the year may as well be the 1800's everything has gone old fashion, except this time, there's no going forwards. there are small towns here and there, old and worn down, just like in the 1800's, money is hard to come by, cows, sheep, horses, they are all used to buy things, trading jewellery to buy things from places like general stores and gunsmiths if money is not available, yep, it really may as well be the 1800's. with no electricity, everything has gone backwards, back to horses and horse and carts being used as transport taking days if not weeks to get from one place to another. but, the humans are still a threat, for everyone knows there are good horses out there with good breeding, so, humans are still rounding up wild horses, but in the old fashion way, on horseback, using corrals and lane ways to get horses into them, breaking in horses and selling them to the highest bidder. over time 60% of the tame horse population became feral, escaping stables, properties, the other half, perishing with the humans. top show jumpers, dressage horses, eventers, ropers, camp drafters, barrel horses, top bred horses, low bred horses, thoroughbreds, warmbloods, standardbreds, quarterhorses, stock horses, arabians, clydesdales, you name it they all escaped. ranch's crumbled to almost nothing, some of even the strongest buildings demolished over the last few hundred years, the odd barn here and there still up and standing. over the last 1500 years animals began to flourish, buffalo coming in the hundreds, deer in the thousands and horse herds larger than ever. that also means predator populations have risen, bears, wolves, cougars, which means when the winter snow thaws and foals are born, the predators come out, bears are the least likely to come towards horses unless they are starving, preferring fish and berries, but wolf packs and cougars definitely will be a big threat.

I. follow all chicken smoothie rules II. fade when needed III. no character limit as long as you can play them all (stallions slots may become be limited) IV. keep fights fair, and discuss the outcome with the other user, through discussion thread preferred so everyone else knows whats about to happen V. experience does matter when it comes to age, however, the horses breed also comes into affect, read below VI. horses will begin to weaken by 18 VII. mares remain fertile till death, they can give birth at 27 however the chance of survival becomes incredibly low for them, meaning if they pass, so does the foal VIII. i do expect at least a paragraph per horse, however writers block is understandable, if you don't muse, you don't have to post for all your characters IX. i'll allow three sets of twins each spring, let me know to reserve the slot X. no ponies or miniatures allowed period XI. if inactive for over a week, you'll receive a pm XII. must ask that you disable your signatures on this thread XIII. there will be a limited amount of stallions allowed at the start of the roleplay, this insures that mares are claimed some what equally. stallions must be 9-14 years of age, no older, no younger only one stallion per player. 8 stallions only including my stallion luci, we wont start until all 8 slots are full first in first serve. please keep your stallions breeding as similar to luci who is a arabian warmblood x mustang so no draft breeds. XIV. you can play as many characters as you want, 1-20 if you can handle them.

Also... as a general... you can not have your own mare, travel or belong, to your stallion. Ever.
And only other male horses allowed apart from the 8 main stallions, must be no older than a week or two.

wild ones - breed info

information on some breeds you may choose to use/cross your horses with

    warmblood
warmbloods are a group of middle-weight horse types and breeds primarily originating in europe and registered with organizations that are characterized by open studbook policy, studbook selection, and the aim of breeding for equestrian sport. the term distinguishes these horses from both heavy draft horses ("cold bloods") and refined light saddle horses such as the thoroughbred, arabian, and akhal-teke ("hot bloods"). although modern warmbloods are descended from heavier agricultural types systematically upgraded by hotblood influence, the term does not imply that warmbloods are direct crosses of "cold" and "hot" more information will depend on the type of warmblood. please note there are several types of warmbloods and they all vary

    thoroughbred
the thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. thoroughbreds are considered "hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit. thoroughbred racehorses perform with maximum exertion, which has resulted in high accident rates and health problems such as bleeding from the lungs. other health concerns include low fertility, abnormally small hearts and a small hoof-to-body-mass ratio. the typical thoroughbred ranges from 15.2 to 17.0 hands high, however can be go outside those ranges. they are most often bay, dark bay or brown, chestnut, black, or grey. less common colors recognized in the united states include roan and palomino. white is very rare, but is a recognized color separate from gray. the face and lower legs may be marked with white, but white will generally not appear on the body. coat patterns that have more than one color on the body, such as Pinto or Appaloosa, are not recognized by mainstream breed registries. good-quality thoroughbreds have a well-chiseled head on a long neck, high withers, a deep chest, a short back, good depth of hindquarters, a lean body, and long legs.

    standardbred
standardbreds tend to be more muscled and longer bodied than the thoroughbred. they also are of more placid dispositions, as suits horses whose races involve more strategy and more changes of speed than do thoroughbred races. standardbreds are considered people-oriented, easy-to-train horses. they are solid, well-built horses with good dispositions. they are generally a bit heavier in build than thoroughbreds, but have refined, solid legs and powerful shoulders and hindquarters. standardbreds have a wide range of heights, from 14 to 17 hands, although most are between 15 and 16 hands. they are most often bay, brown or black, although other colors such as chestnut are seen. grey and roan are also found

    arabian
with a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the arabian is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world. It is also one of the oldest breeds. arabian horses have refined, wedge-shaped heads, a broad forehead, large eyes, large nostrils, and small muzzles. most display a distinctive concave, or "dished" profile. many arabians also have a slight forehead bulge between their eyes, called the jibbah by the bedouin, that adds additional sinus capacity, believed to have helped the Arabian horse in its native dry desert climate. another breed characteristic is an arched neck with a large, well-set windpipe set on a refined, clean throatlatch. this structure of the poll and throatlatch was called the mitbah or mitbeh by the bedouin. In the ideal arabian it is long, allowing flexibility in the bridle and room for the windpipe. arabians usually stand between 14.1 to 15.1 hands tall, with the occasional individual over or under. the arabian coat colors are generally bay, gray, chestnut, black, and roan. bay, gray and chestnut are the most common; black is less common. the classic roan gene does not appear to exist in arabians rather, arabians who appear roan are usually expressing rabicano or, sometimes, sabino patterns with roan features. all arabians, no matter their coat color, have black skin, except under white markings. black skin provided protection from the intense desert sun. purebred arabians never carry dilution genes. therefore, purebreds cannot be colors such as dun, cremello, palomino or buckskin. there are six known genetic disorders in arabian horses. two are inevitably fatal, two are not inherently fatal but are disabling and usually result in euthanasia of the affected animal; the remaining conditions can usually be treated (research for information).

    quarter horse
the quarter horse has a small, short, refined head with a straight profile, and a strong, well-muscled body, featuring a broad chest and powerful, rounded hindquarters. they usually stand between 14 and 16 hands high, although some halter-type and english hunter-type horses may grow as tall as 17 hands. there are two main body types: the stock type and the hunter or racing type. the stock horse type is shorter, more compact, stocky and well-muscled, yet agile. the racing and hunter type quarter horses are somewhat taller and smoother muscled than the stock type, more closely resembling the thoroughbred. quarter horses come in nearly all colors. the most common color is sorrel, a brownish red, part of the color group called chestnut by most other breed registries. other recognized colors include bay, black, brown, buckskin, palomino, gray, dun, red dun, grullo (also occasionally referred to as blue dun), red roan, blue roan, bay roan, perlino, cremello, and white.

    australian stock horse
the australian stock horse is bred for intelligence, courage, toughness, and stamina. the horse will be sound, agile and quick moving with a sure-footed walk. it will have a calm, responsive temperament. all colours are acceptable. height ranges from 14 to 16.2 hands.

    american paint horse
the terms "paint" and "pinto" are sometimes both used to describe paint horses. but "paint" horses are the breed and "pinto" is actually the colouring of the horse. similar information to the quarter horse and stock horse however are always pinto coloured or solid coloured.

    clydesdale
today, the clydesdale stands 16 to 18 hands high and weighs 1,800 to 2,000 pounds. some mature males are larger, standing taller than 18 hands and weighing up to 2,200 pounds. the breed has a straight or slightly convex facial profile, broad forehead, and wide muzzle. it is well muscled and strong, with an arched neck, high withers, and a sloped shoulder. their gaits are active, with clearly lifted hooves and a general impression of power and quality. cydesdales are energetic, with a manner described by the clydesdale horse society as a "gaiety of carriage and outlook". clydesdales have been identified to be at risk for chronic progressive lymphedema, a disease with clinical signs that include progressive swelling, hyperkeratosis, and fibrosis of distal limbs that is similar to chronic lymphedema in humans. another health concern is a skin condition on the lower leg where feathering is heavy. colloquially called "clyde's itch", it is thought to be caused by a type of mange. clydesdales are also known to develop sunburn on any pink (unpigmented) skin around their faces. clydesdales are usually bay in colour, but a roaning pattern, black, grey, and chestnut also occur. most have white markings, including white on the face, feet, and legs, and occasional body spotting (generally on the lower belly). they also have extensive feathering on their lower legs. roaning, body spotting, and extensive white markings are thought to be the result of sabino genetics.

    shire horse
Shire colours may be black, bay, brown, roan or grey while not common, there are chestnuts. height varies from 16"2 to about 19"0 hands however some may vary either way. the head of a shire is long and lean, with large eyes, set on a neck that is slightly arched and long in proportion to the body. the shoulder is deep and wide, the chest wide, the back muscular and short and the hindquarters long and wide. not too much feathering occurs on the legs, and the hair is fine, straight, and silky

    gypsy vanner
the gypsy horse is usually, but not always, piebald. it may also be skewbald or any solid colour; a solid-coloured horse with white splashing on the underbelly is called "blagdon" or "splashed". they usually range from 13"0 to 16"0 hands. a gypsy horse's facial profile should be straight, neither overly dished nor roman nosed. a "sweet" head, more refined than that of most draught horses. the neck is strong, muscular, and of medium length "with a throat latch slightly deeper than lighter breeds". the chest should be broad, deep, and well muscled. withers are "well rounded, not high and fine, i.e., hardly noticeable". most standards call for a "well-sloped" shoulder. the gypsy horse's are usually a strong, kind, (very) intelligent partner that works willingly and harmoniously with its handler. they are also described as mannerly and manageable, eager to please, confident, courageous, alert, and loyal with a genuine sociable outlook. the gypsy horse is renowned for its gentle, tractable nature and sensible disposition

    mustang
the original mustangs were colonial spanish horses, but many other breeds and types of horses contributed to the modern mustang, resulting in varying phenotypes. mustangs of all body types are described as surefooted and having good endurance. They may be of any coat color and usually 14"0 to 16"0 hands. they often have a well-proportioned body with a clean, refined head with wide forehead and small muzzle. the facial profile may be straight or slightly convex. withers are moderate in height, and the shoulder is to be "long and sloping." the standard considers a very short back, deep girth and muscular coupling over the loins as desirable. the croup is rounded, neither too flat nor goose-rumped. the tail is low-set. the legs are to be straight and sound. hooves are round and dense. dun color dilution and primitive markings are particularly common among horses of spanish type. natural selection has eliminated many traits that lead to weakness or inferiority

    belgium draft
the belgian heavy draft horse stands between 16.2 and 17 hands. on average the belgian grows to weigh slightly over 2000 pounds. most american belgians are a light chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. the head is relatively small and well-shaped. american belgians in north america are not as large as the european brabant but are of a similar build.

wild ones - seasons

xxxSEASONSxxx

summer
in summer, days grow long and hot. nights are short, but offer a few hours of comfortable temperatures. many horses migrate toward water sources or shade, seeking to hide from the afternoon sun. mares are still in heat, though by this point all foals from the previous year will have already been born. stallion are still on the search for more mares, while lead mares move the herd to a cooler location. despite the heat, summer is an active season. young stallions show off, yearling mares get whisked away, and band stallions are daring enough to attempt stealing a mare or two. rain is not common in summer, and if it does it is often a warm, heavy rain that lasts only a couple hours at most.

autumn
with autumn comes the return of cooler temperatures. nights and mornings are chilly, hinting at the freezing months to follow. rain becomes more common, and the colors of the land begin to fade. turning from dark green to vibrant oranges and reds, until the earth is taken over by a dull gray. mares are rarely in heat during autumn, but those covered in spring may start to foal. should this happen, there is a slim chance that said mares may go into heat for the remaining weeks of autumn, but may not always accept a stallion.

winter
winter. snow coats the ground, the earth is blanketed in a glistening white, and temperatures drop. foals can be born throughout the winter months, however not all will survive the freezing the temperatures. mares are never in heat, and stallions are calm, instead fighting against predators whom may use the horses's weakened state to attack. food must be dug out from under the snow, and thin layers of ice may have to broken to reach water.

spring
spring, the season of new life. temperatures rise to a comfortable level, snow melts away, revealing new growth, and animals come out of hiding. in spring, mares are beginning to go back into heat, and some late foals may even be born. new herds are forming, old ones expanding, while yearlings venture away from home to find their own place in the wilderness. rain is common, and clouds always dot the sky.

Jazz/14/Stallion/TB Appendix/Open

The cool, early spring breeze gently blew through the dark mane of a lone stallion by the creek. Jazz moved towards the water, hoping the quench his thirst with the cold water. Wading in up to his knees, the blue roan bent his head and let his black muzzle dip beneath the surface. The water was still cold from winter and was extremely satisfying to the parched male. Jazz suddenly jerked his face from the water, droplet spewing in all direction. A small fish had startled him mid drink. Snorting at his silliness, he raised his muzzle to the sky, sniffing the breeze for any scent indicating a female who could join him in his herd. Mares where essential in carrying on his lineage and strong Appendix genes.

Athena/10/Mare/QH Appaloosa/Open

Shifting through the tall grass, a lone leopard appaloosa mare picked her way through. Athena dipped her head, sniffing the dirt beneath her black hooves. In the ground was tracks and after further studying she determined the belong most likely to a fox. Too small for a wolf and too big for something smaller. Relaxing a bit, the mare allowed her teeth to wrap around the tough strands and pulled. Small yellow stalks pulled from the ground, their thin brown roots hanging.

Aphrodite/14/Mare/Appaloosa Arab TB/Open

Swishing her short black tail furiously, Aphrodite let out a long squeal. Pesky little horse flies that had erupted from their winter slumber now collected on her hind quarters. To a normal horse these were just simple annoyances, however Aphrodite was a bit of a drama queen about everything. "Go away you pesky flies!" she squalled, her back legs kicking out.

Corva/9/Mare/APH AQH/ Open

Corva had been alone for a while. Most of winter the little mare had existed alone but now that Spring had come, on overwhelming instinct encouraged her to seek out companionship, specifically that of a stallion. The black mare gazed around, her nostrils flared for any scent that may grace her muzzle.

Liberty/4/Mare/AQH APH/ Open

A little lone mare skittered her way through the weedy grass at the edge of the river. Not daring to go in the deep rushing water, she stayed near the edge searching for the extremely lush grass the grew on the edge. Liberty loved this spot and as a young filly, her mother would take her here and showed her the edge. Grass here grew thick, green, and more tasteful. The paint filly swished her tail eyeing the ground before suddenly settling for a patch near a pool.

Beauty/10/Mare/Clydesdale GV/Aurora and Open

Beauty rested under the shades of a tall oak. The giant mare had lay down, finding a thick grass patch that offered the perfect resting spot. The bay's eyes slowly drifted shut after confirming her daughter was near. Aurora had been Beauty's foal from 3 seasons ago. Born black as night, the filly had aged turned into a white beauty. The mare let the warm suns rays that passed through the branches warm her and continued to snooze.

Aurora/3/Mare/Clydesdale GV Percheron QH/ Open

A tall white mare rested just outside the shade of an oak tree. Aurora had been traveling with her mother until they found a stallion that was suitable. She had agreed to stay awake while her mother napped under a near by tree. Eyes open, her ear swirled around and nose sniffed for potential friends and enemies.

Ra |9 Yr Old & 16.1 hh | Mustang x Quarter Horse | Bachelor Stallion
Tags: open

Ra could be found laying down on the side of a hill, the day was beautiful, and was great for sunbathing. He had recently been relieved of his only mare, and was now a bachelor again. The mare he lost would've made a wonderful lead mare and he definitely will feel the loss of her soon. For now though, he decided enough was enough for moping, and raised himself up off the ground to graze and go in search of the nearest water source. He watched the sun rise until midday before finding a cool and shaded creek bed to drink from. His head, legs and dorsal were darker than his body, and he had little stripes running against his legs as well. A true red dun. His coat almost shined in the dappled sunlight created by the trees.

Ylva | 12 Yr Old & 15.1 hh | American Paint x Norwegian Fjord | Lone Mare
Tags: open

Ylva hailed from the mountainous area, she had been traveling for a while after her stallion had been defeated in a challenge, and the newcomer was eaten by a cougar soon after. So she had decided that the mountains weren't for her, and that it was time to move on to newer, greener pastures. The valley below the mountains was full of grass and wildlife, being a bit older she knew this also meant more chances to meet predatory animals, and even the legendary human. Her hooves clipped through the grass easily, being sharp from running on stone and dirt. She was excited to find a new stallion, and even her well known grumpiness couldn't abate that. She took her time placing her hooves into the soft, inviting grass, watching as the squishy dirt beneath let her hooves fall into it. She was pretty well distracted by the new biome.

Rose | 7 Yr Old & 16.2 hh | Anglo Arabian | Lone Mare
Tags: open

Rose was raised by humans, and had escaped for her own good. People were still gambling addicts, even after losing most of their civilization, and so they needed something to gamble on. Racing was still a common sport if you could afford to participate, and Rose's pedigree definitely showed a strong line of perfect racers.

Rose picked up her dainty head, watching the breeze dance across the blades of grass. Her excitement grew and grew before she took off across the meadow like a lightning bolt, squealing and panting heavily. Her chestnut hide slicked with sweat before she pulled herself short of taking a dip in the river. She loved racing to her core, but she had escaped anyways, people just weren't like the stories anymore. Her nose took a drink from the icey cold river, humans were less kind than before, and used horses for everything.

A Sable Champagne mare stepped lightly into the daylight, she had been separated from her herd during the winter snows. Azshara had spent the night in a small cave that reeked of predators, but it was warm compared to the drenching rain that had happened the night before. She lifted her head, praying for any scent that reminded her of her last herd, or even a new herd. She did not enjoy being alone, strength came from numbers, and a lone horse was easy prey for other hungry animals. Azshara headed out at a trot, taking herself to where she hoped would be water to start her day.

LUCIFER

In a small clearing under the shade of multiple weeping willow trees stood a handsome pinto stallion in his prime. His tail flicked at the few buzzing midgies around his hind quarters, and as he grazed his golden amber eyes were pulled away from the lazy gaze to the stream, after a few seconds of watching the water flow he let out a deep sigh and made his way towards the stream, the smell of the water becoming obvious that he was indeed thirsty. Lucifer looked lazily around for a few moments before relaxing again and lowering his nose to the water and creating a gap with his thick lips and allowing his pink tongue to curl, he started to drink. When he’d had his fill, he lifted his head, his thick pink tongue poking out about half an inch as he sucked on his it and swallowed the water before pulling his tongue back. It was something he’d done since he was a foal, and he never out grew it. He gave a sharp snort and with a long tired yawn the stallion glanced back to the shadows of the trees and walked back calmly, to any onlookers he might perhaps look lame at first glance, you see, when luci was being lazy, he tended to drag his hind hooves across the ground terribly, but if you watched, and didn’t judge too quickly, you’d notice both legs were doing it and there was in fact, no lameness. And so as the stallion reached the shade he let out a deep breath and lowered his head ever so slightly to fully relax, cocking his hind leg onto the tip of his toe as he dozed off, all the while an ear twitched here and there listening to anything that may spark interest, or a flight response.

freyja lay on a tall hill, there was about a 20m radius of flat ground before a downhill slope to get back to the plains, in the middle of the small area she lay on, stood a tall oak tree, probably 60 or 70 foot high, it's branches extending over 100 foot in length, this tree was freyja's tree, it sheltered her from most weather, and the shadows and long branches protected her from sight of most predators, it had been the tree frejya was born under, and had always been the tree that the mare had planned to birth under herself. it was the perfect place. as she flicked her tail, that stench wafted around again, but unlike some of the younger fillies, she knew the smell, it was time to breed, for one, her mother had taught her of such smell, and of course, her own body often drove her to seek out a stallion, but, she'd been through this many times before, a mare came into heat once every three to four weeks throughout spring summer and autumn, on the extreme occasion, a mare might continue through winter, her first cycle had been after her second spring through the hot summer months, it irritated her at first, but she came to like it, she knew it meant she could bear a foal, and freyja, ever since she was little, had always wanted a foal. the grey mare rolled herself upright from her laying position and hauled herself up onto all four legs, shaking her coat loose of any dirt and grass that came to stick to her glorious coat, the mare proceeded to stretch, leaning right back into a downward stretching position, before lifting herself back up and taking a step with her front leg, stretching out one hind leg followed by the other before with a soft snort, the mare looked towards the precious little filly who had been laying a few meters from her, with a gentle nicker to wake up athena, freyja proceeded in a lazy walk down to the river bed a few hundred meters from her tree, listening for athena, noting when the filly came trotting after her. her silvery ears twitched as she waded into the water, feeling the cool water felt nice over her shoulders so she stood for a few moments enjoying it before she pursed her lips to the water and with the help of her fat pink tongue, she began to drink.

DASIY

it was no secret that daisy was a bit... well, dumb to put it bluntly, she wasn't very bright, she was a little clumsy and often got herself into trouble because of it. she spent the first 3 months after her mother died with a mare a touch older than herself, where she managed to stay out of trouble, but it had been almost 9 months since she'd been with another horse. daisy was as innocent as they came, she meant no pain, no harm, no sorrow, she only wanted to please, to have fun, to play, love and be happy, she was indeed a mare, but in her heart, and in her mind, she'd be a filly till the day she dies, there was no dominant bone her body, no cruel, crude or insensitive emotion, no possible way daisy could ever offend anyone, it was not in her, daisy was far to kind, to sweet, if you didn't love daisy, why were you even with her. daisy did have some downfalls, she was what some called a push over, easy to manipulate, meaning she could be manipulated to do something for someone that another might not like which could and would potentially get in her trouble, she didn't have many friends amongst the fillies and colts in her birth herd, they had all been cruel to her, they used her like a puppet, she was so easy to control, and her mother already growing sick, and at the bottom of the herd hierarchy herself, was left with little to do. her mother was so kind, so loving and always put daisy first, her sire wasn't much of a father, he was one of those 'the more mares the better' kind of stallions, so he never showed daisy much compassion, at 8 months old her dam had died, and she was cared for by a young mare, a young mare herself at the time up until a year ago when she was separated from her. daisy was also very submissive, she didn't defend herself, ever, you could hunt her around and around until your hearts content and she'll do nothing but run, while not small in frame, and will prove to turn into a quite a large muscular horse as she gets older, kicks and bites still hurt the poor girl. but for now, with nothing else to do, daisy stood grazing under a group of weeping willow trees and pulled at the green grass around her cream hooves.

DYNASTY

gender mare age twelve years desciption a 15"3 true black thoroughbred x arabian heat stage two

dynasty stood in a field of flowers, pink, white, purple and yellow scattered all around her. if standing in a field of flowers didn't tell you she was a princess, what would. truth be told, she wasn't as insensitive some might think, she was actually very sweet and loving, but she could be arrogant and stubborn and moody, but she was also only two, maybe it was just growing pains. the rather small mare, at least at the moment she was, nosed around the flower bushes, pulling at the green grass that grew almost in every inch of the field that the flowers did not. it wasn't the best, but she didn't feel like moving right now, it was quite cool still and the better grass was over in the shade, far to cold for her right now, no she was quite happy where she stood, it was a touch sour due to the flowers covering most of their growth, but it was more bearable then the cold. she didn't grow a thick winter coat like most horses out here, any one with her breeding knew what it felt like to not grow a coat as thick as a mustang or something, but she also ran with a higher blood temperature which usually made up for it, but not always. so the cold was not exactly something dynasty enjoyed, so for now, she stood, her ebony coat shone in the sun as she grazed. her companion, gracie was down in the shadows munching on greener grass, they weren't the best of friends, but gracie was company, so she didn't stray too far from the sorrel mare.

GRACIE
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────
gender mare age ten years desciption a 16"0 sorrel stock horse x warmblood x andalusion x thoroughbred heat stage three
stallion none tagged dynasty, open

the mix breed mare stood in the shadows grazing on the lush green grass, her princess companion up in the flowers a couple hundred meters away, gracie didn't not like dynasty, but she didn't love her either, she was very kind and sweet, but she could be a bit of a pain, she was a little too dominant for her taste, perhaps it was because gracie was just as dominant that the pair just kept sparring, but nonetheless, she wasn't a huge fan of the arabain x mare. so the sorrel mare stood in the shadows of the large trees and grazed, occasionally looking up to make sure her companion was there before she continued, flicking her tail and her stronger - than dynasty's - scented tail around the area, with her own scent and dynasty's, the area would soon be flooded in the smell.

In the spring sunshine, stood a muscular bay stallion, red coat glistening. He grazed peacefully, swatting flies with his long tangled tail. A cool breeze ruffled his shedding winter coat and the stallion shuddered through his head up. Artax snorted at the breeze and shook his head and leaped into a trot across the meadow. Smells filled his nostrils of small animals, birds, and even mares. He let out a long whinny of excitement and broke into a balanced canter toward a creek he could see in the distance. There were always other horses to find wherever there was water.

A grey mare flew through the forest bobbing and weaving between trees and leaping fallen logs. Her joints groaned as she ran but she couldn't stop. The snapping and barking of the wolf pack behind her drove Cricket faster and faster. Her heart pounded in her chest and her nostrils flared. She whinnied as loud as she could for help but she doubted anybody would interfere with a pack of wolves on their prey. The mare's endurance was wearing thin and the wolves could go for hours. A sharp pain on her hock made Cricket slow and kick her back legs like a mule. She kicked as hard as she could and heard a yelp before spinning around and rearing to pound onto one of the canines snapping at her. All of her energy went into pinning her ears and chasing the closest wolf with her teeth ready to snap.

Aspen lay on her side allowing the afternoon sun to warm her face with the rest of her body in the shade of a weeping willow. Her eyes flickered open and her ears flicked the bugs away. Slowly she rolled onto her stomach, her legs tucked underneath her. The little buckskin mare pulled herself to her hooves. She shook out her pale cream coat, sending the dust flying off of her. She stretched out her legs and made her way toward a particularly green patch of grass and began grazing. Thoughts clouded her mind as she nibbled on the forage. It hadn't been too long since her previous stallion had died. He had been young and strong. Aspen really believed he had loved her which wasn't the common case for stallions. A bachelor stallion had come to snake Aspen away and her lover fought with his life to keep the little buckskin mare. Aspen ran. She knew she wouldn't be safe alone and all of her instincts told her to stay with that stallion but she couldn't. So she ran.

The sorrel mare began her advancement towards a source of water in an expectedly leisurely fashion, occasionally halting and dipping her head to pull out prongs of grass to eat whilst on her travels. The winter had been particular rough on Vanya this year as she struggled to find any decent grazing. As a result, the mare was left looking worse for wear; ribs slightly visible and her withers becoming more pointed. Therefore, she was quite ecstatic when she saw the white blanket of snow melt away and green paint the land and has spend most of her time attempting to regain the lost weight. More desperate when she realised her heat cycle had begun. Eventually, she arrived at the a creek but remained a fair distance away. There was a stallion there. Normally, she would approach without a care to drink but she felt a form of shame as she hadn't fully recovered and the struggle of winter still clearly visible to any onlooking horses.

She had been basking and grazing in the warm temperature since early morning, relieved at the rid of the cold. Unlike some of the other horses, Florence's winter coat has always been quite pathetic and pretty useless. Yet, it meant that it shed relatively quick in the spring, leaving her shiny and smooth. Flicking her tail at the pesky flies on her flank, the pungent scent of her heat carried away by the breeze, she had been internally fighting the instinctual need to find a stallion, not wanting to spoil such a nice day with brutes.
