"He's so.. small,"
Born to two fairly prominent etas, it need not be said that Soma was not at all what they were expecting. His littermates took after their parents, big and strong and loud as they wiggled close to their mothers side. And granted, the little cream pup shared their enthusiasm— his own voice joining his siblings hungry chorus quite readily— but it was hard to ignore how he was just as easily dwarfed by the largest of the whelps. He wasn't necessarily sickly, but it was obvious that he was the weakest of the lot.
"There's one with every litter, Neara. He will grow," His father would have soothed, perhaps not entirely sure of his words considering the immediate protests from his mate.
But grow Soma did. How much, on the other hand, is mostly up to debate. He never quite filled out on the level that his siblings did, not in strength or size, and his mother never let him forget that. Any accomplishment he made was never enough for her. Although his father, Rhuus, was a bit more understanding and sympathetic, Neara seemed to lack any empathy for his small stature and disposition. While she was eager to shower his siblings with praise and adoration, she was just as quick to find a way to scold her smallest in the same breath.
Knowing this, it might be hard to believe that Soma is an incredibly energetic and enthusiastically friendly wolf. Sometimes almost to a fault, as he often doesn't see anything but the good in those he encounters. He is seemingly incapable of holding grudges or thinking ill of another. Naive, but he does have enough sense to know when he should keep his head down and when he should perhaps leave something be. Otherwise if you look like you need a friend, Soma will be actively trying to be that friend until you tire of his overtly-happy nature and chase him off. Even during the height of the war, the little wolf never ceased to radiate positivity or to stop trying to lift the spirits of those around him, perhaps not entirely aware of the consequences that would soon follow in the final days.
It may have come as a surprise to some that instead of becoming a chi, that Soma was taken in as an iota. While his general disposition certainly would have fit, he wants nothing more than to help those around him and to ease their pain. Seeing those he cares about, all of his packmates, hurt or in pain tears him apart and he wishes to be able to keep them from an even worse fate. His mother naturally disapproved, and made it quite known, while his father was just happy that he seemingly found a place in the pack.
While not necessarily a front, the young iota hides a lot of insecurities behind his otherwise overwhelming personality that do occasionally rear their heads. Many stem from his upbringing, while others have slowly festered in the volatile climate that makes up the core of the Lunaris pack under Corvus' usurped leadership— of which Soma still does not know how to feel. Most recently, he still feels the sting from the loss of both his parents; his mother having fallen shortly after Soma was selected as an iota, while his father did not return from the final siege on the Solaris wolves. His fathers death affecting him more severely, although he tries not to let it show.
( open to letting his siblings be developed if someone wants a family connection! feel free to toss a pm )
