Songbreeze stared Velvetstar in the face, and though she nearly matched Velvetstar in height, there was no comparison in bulk. The moor-runner was a long-legged dog, which was her main advantage in her speed. Her face showing no signs of emotion nor guilt (those weren't her feelings, anyways. It was just pure irritation and frustration with Cloudtuft, and a feeling of dread to what was to come the following gathering), said slowly, "The dog in question isn't my underling, and if I could handle it, I wouldn't. That's the job of Stagstar." Flicking her tail slightly, Songbreeze paused to make sure she would be easily able to squelch any sudden anger, then continued. "We regret that this happened, and," Songbreeze continued, deciding to try and match Velvetstar's teasing, though keep the seriousness. "Well, I know you probably don't trust me, but if you do, you can know that this won't go unsolved." Song gave a small, grim smile, her eyes still not having left the Shadowpack leader's.

*As a side note, Song was the one who first began to leave the discussion, so I played it like Velvetstar was talking to her, sorry if you did mean to be talking to Dunlinfur!*

Dawnpaw watched as Velvetstar walked out from behind the bush. So... she didn't see me fall? That's good, she told herself sternly. You don't want her, or anyone else, really, to pay you more attention than they do Rive. Still, Dawnpaw was in a daze, barely registering the argument, too confused about the vision she had just experienced. I wish Viperfrost was here. She would know what it meant, she thought miserably. Who would listen? She unconsciously eliminated all the warriors and apprentices; she didn't feel that confident. Flowerpetal seemed like a doubtful choice, but she was beta, and, hey, seemed like a safer option than Velvetstar... but she had literally collapsed in front of Velvetstar! Surely she noticed but decided to deal with it later? Or... there's Thornheart and Rive... Dawnpaw hadn't even considered them, but the two might have words of advice... or some mental preparing for a talk with her leader, at least. Dawnpaw turned her attention to the arguing packdogs, still nervous about looking at Cloudtuft.

"The only way to travel!" she exclaimed with a wink, and chuckled a bit more.
Rive felt her sides start to ache from laughing so much, so she took a few deep breaths to try to calm down a little. At first it seemed to work, and the tiny omega breathed a contented sigh. That sigh was promptly interrupted by a huge hiccup. Rive felt her body practically jump into the air! She was not a fan of hiccups on the best of days, and looked up at Thornheart as she asked for some advice as to how to rid herself of them.
"Thornheart, uh... -hic- Do you know any -hic- cures for hiccups?"
Suddenly aware of how silly she sounded while trying to talk, Rive looked at the ground shyly. Making jokes was one thing, but when her body involuntarily put her into a compromising position, she felt embarrassed about it.

Velvetstar struck an absolutely intimidating silhouette. Dunlinfur had actually never seen her this close up before, having only memories of her at a distance during gatherings. He was a medium-large breed, not typically dwarfed by other dogs, but this was no typical "other dog". Dunlinfur stood shorter than either Songbreeze or Velvetstar, but he had a much more muscular, compact sort of build than the moor-runner, and his pelt was quite thick on top of that. Still, next to Velvetstar, Dunlinfur was rather pitiful. Yet, the medicine dog held his ground. He knew she would not be quick to actually hurt him, even if she was more than capable of doing so, and letting her get a rise out of him would reflect even more poorly on his pack. Thus, there was no reason to be afraid and every reason to remain calm, and that was exactly what he did, as he backed up Songbreeze's already serious rebuttal. For such a young dog, she really held her own under so much pressure.
"Stagstar'll hear about this right away." Dunlinfur confirmed grimly during a pause in Songbreeze's response. "WindPack doesn't put up with this type'a behavior."
He left Songbreeze to have the last word, still standing his ground beside her. If Velvetstar wanted to send warriors to escort himself and the other WindPackers to the border, he would not be surprised, but one way or another, he intended to leave peacefully and, hopefully, never set paw in ShadowPack territory again.

Snowpaw’s ears flattened clearly angered. Was Dulinfur making a threat? She was almost certain he was. She stood by Velvetstar. She knew if this got mentioned at the gathering the other packs would either go after Windpack or follow the example of these dogs and hunt in Shadowpack territory.

Her smile widened as she glanced between the WindPack moor runner and the medicine dog, immediately picking up on how they both rushed to answer her. She hadn't been addressing the warrior, but she wasn't bothered by her intervening; she understood that she was probably nervous in the midst of so many enemy dogs, even if her purposeful meeting the alpha's eye and her posturing said differently. She drew a paw over her lopped ear casually - to relieve some tension - and barked, "That's what I like to hear. But -" she draped her bushy tail across the medicine dog's shoulders before commenting quietly, in a tone so playful that it could almost be unnerving, "there's no need to be so serious." Her tail slowly dragged off of him as she padded away, chuckling to herself at the irony of her joke. She gave the WindPackers a final nod before she walked up to her own dogs. She lowered her voice and said, "I don't believe they'll be back. You can all resume what you were doing before this fun little encounter." Then, she eyed Dawnpaw, the medicine dog apprentice. She sat down, trying to appear less frightening to the smaller dog. "You. What happened? I heard you fall."

Hope flickered dimly in her heart at the joking tone in which Songbreeze addressed Velvetstar. It quickly extinguished, however, at her last words. This won't go unsolved. Cloudtuft swallowed. She hadn't imagined it would ever go this far when she first began pursuing the buck. She had just been eager to obtain good food for her Pack at a time where they could use more. Dunlinfur's words weren't very comforting either. As Velvetstar swept past them, speaking quietly to her warriors, she found herself rushing to get nearer to her packmates. However angry they might be, it was better than being close to the ShadowPack dogs for another second.

Velvetstar seemed satisfied with his and Songbreeze's collective responses and left the little group alone to return to her own packmates. Dunlinfur had not particularly enjoyed being brushed by the ShadowPack leader's tail like that, which was unusual for such an affectionate dog like himself, but it was over quickly and there was no point to addressing the gesture. Right now, he just wanted to get his hide back to his own territory and unpack everything that had happened. He wordlessly led the way back the way he had first come with Songbreeze just minutes ago, though it seemed more like hours. Dunlinfur found the traveling more difficult now, even though the path was at least a little bit familiar the second time. Stepping through all the underbrush in the dark made for slow going. He felt branches grab at his fluffy coat and pull on his fur, but he shoved past all of it as best he could. The disappointment he felt in Cloudtuft multiplied with every step, but he found it hard to put his feelings into any meaningful words when the conflict was still so fresh. Once they were back on their own land, Dunlinfur would give Cloudtuft a stern few words, but he decided it would be best to follow his word and let Stagstar deal with punishments.

The moor-runner remained silent, but noticed Snowpaw, an older apprentice probably just around her age, stalk behind Velvetstar and cast daggers at Dunlinfur. Huh, she found herself thinking. That's a dog that's taking the code seriously. Unlike herself, Songbreeze thought, slightly amused. When at last Velvetstar dismissed them, Songbreeze watched Cloudtuft dash for them, but remained silent. She wasn't going to speak her mind to Cloudtuft until they were out of Shadowpack territory, to make sure no one would hear them. Songbreeze followed Dunlinfur as he left, wishing she could run, but she wasn't in the mood for that, having Shadowpack think she was a coward. Wait, she thought, when they were some distance away. Did Velvetstar say 'little crush'? Song glanced at Cloudtuft, before leaping over a fallen log. She stuck her nose into the air."We're nearly there."

Dawnpaw, saw Velvetstar approaching her, and her first thought was, no! I need to talk to Thornheart first! before Velvetstar sat down and asked her. There was no backing out now. "Ummm..." Even sitting down, the Shadowpack leader was terrifying. "I-I saw that white dog, the one with the deer... and... I think I had v-vision or something?" Dawnpaw looked cautiously up at Velvetstar. "It had words, like... a warning or something? I think that white dog has something to do with it, like she t-triggered it or s-something." Dawnpaw had a feeling Velvetstar was going to ask what the prophecy/vision/warning thing was, and Dawnpaw remembered every word, but she wouldn't tell her if she didn't ask to hear it.

Thornheart smiled at Rive, though it wasn't at all mocking. "Hiccups are normal, Rive, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Now, let's see, a cure for hiccups..." Thornheart thought for a second, eyes closed. Naturally, she had heard of many 'cures' over the years, but some seemed pretty ridiculous and unlikely to work. "Well, someone once said if you lay on your back and breath slowly through your nose, it'll make you sneeze, and they said that that would rid you of the hiccups," said Thornheart finally. She knew the part about laying on your back causing a gigantic sneeze was true; she just wasn't sure about the ridding of hiccups part.

"Vision?" Her ears perked up in alertness at the word. Immediately, in spite of herself, she thought to her encounter with Bristlestar in her dream. Her neck ached again where her mother had chomped into her flesh. Catching herself sounding a bit too interested, she relaxed her body, crouching to be on eye level with Dawnpaw while she said, more calmly, "Do go on." As she patiently waited for the medicine dog apprentice's response, she looked over one of her broad shoulders to check that Snowpaw was still around. She was pleased with the apprentice's tenacity and steadfastness during the confrontation.

"Y-yes?" Dawnpaw said, shuffling her paws. "Umm... Dying, dying all dying, sickness, sickness, you cannot help, alone we fall, united we're destroyed." Dawnpaw finished reciting, feeling uncomfortable. She didn't particularly like the you cannot help part. It made her feel that same, empty feeling of when she had discovered Viperfrost's death. It was... unnerving, that feeling being brought back to clearly as if it had happened all over again. She shuffled her paws, nervously awaiting Velvetstar's response.

The apprentice just listened to the conversation, while wondering about the next gathering. The events of what just happened would probably be mentioned. She was hopeful nobody would call Shadowpack weak. Especially after today. Did I handle the situation alright? I know fighting would cause a fight which is why I didn’t start a fight. The pack won’t miss one deer. She thought.

Rive waited patiently while Thornheart fell silent and began thinking of a hiccup cure. She felt comforted by the way Thornheart reassured her, and then moved on without making a big deal about it. Every few breaths, her little, shaggy body would jump with hiccups, but she was otherwise still until Thornheart had finished explaining her "back sneeze" method. At this, Rive tilted her head, skeptically confused.
"Really? Are you sure? -hic- I guess it wouldn't hurt to try-hic-."
Rive had no clue how any of this would help, but she was willing to try anything if it had a chance of working. So, she lowered herself to the ground and rolled over with her paws in the air. Then, she slowly breathed in until her lungs were full of air. Sure enough, she felt a tickle in her snout, and sneezed so hard that she felt her head spin!
"Wow, I did sneeze."
Rive rolled over and assumed an upright position again.
"That's amazing! Where did you learn that trick?"
