Luckystar lay his ears flat on his head. Perfect. His first piece of advice was cryptic and did not sound helpful at all. The large she-cat sitting in front of him was smiling blissfully as if she'd just shared the greatest piece of wisdom. Were all starclan cats like that? Or just the very old and wise ones? Were mysterious one-liners all the support he would get?

"Oh, that's... kind of you. Thank you for the, uh... wisdom."
Despite his scepticism he did not want to sound rude, so he tried to make his voice sound genuine.

She has been nothing but gentle and courteous with him. Their meeting was sudden and unexpected. She appeared behind him, as if born from a shadow. He had not scented anything or heard any sounds before her arrival. That however, wasn't as peculiar as the request she had for him. She explained that she came from Starclan, a clan of old and wise cats, and that she would like him to start a clan for the sake of the future and new generations. All the while she smiled softly and looked at him with an affectionate glimmer in her eyes, like a proud mother would look at her son. It made him a little embarrassed, but also gave him courage and faith in her words.

Why did she want him to lead a clan though? He bit his lower lip, lost in thought. He looked around him at the surrounding world. He did not know how it looked before the great flood, but he heard stories. It was hard to imagine, but where he was now used to be a large, bustling town that was full of lights even at night. Loud vehicles moved at impossible speed and you could not find a place that didn’t have a some humans in it. There wasn’t even a pond for miles, everything was covered by grey concrete and neatly cut green grass.

Then everything was covered in blue. Whatever leftover roads and buildings there were, were cracked by nature sprouting back to life. Nothing louder than a bird could be heard. Instead of streets there were rivers and lakes. Only nights stayed the same, full of light provided by the bright, starry sky. Was this the reason? The elders told him that a human plague and their irresponsible actions led to the flooding, countless deaths and near destruction of the world - an apocalypse. Has she foreseen more such events happening? Was the world still heading towards annihilation? And if so, could he prevent it by starting a clan?

He realised he’d been lost in thoughts for a long while. He looked back at the she-cat and noticed that her smile was gone. She looked sorrowful and worried. His eyes widened in surprise. Was she able to read his mind?

“We’re not the ones that messed this world up, but we’re the ones that will pay the price”, she said. “It might seem like we’re living in a world of calm after a storm, but I’m afraid there are still dark clouds looming over. We need to prepare and be strong and strength lie in numbers. That is the only way to survive.”

The way she talked, with absolute certainty, with wisdom he could not comprehend, he had no choice but to trust her. There were also those eyes. Worried and caring, they could not have been misleading.

Before he even realised it, he nodded his head. A soft smile returned to her face.

“Thank you. The future lies in your paws.”

Finally, a cat with common sense. Duskwillow found herself enjoying clan life for the first time since she had accepted a position in Raptorstar's barely managed clan. If her sense of self-preservation had not taken over, realizing she wasn't going to live in a harsh world on her own, Duskwillow would have left ages ago. It was still a thought in the back of her mind, at least until recently.

A new cat had joined the clan, found on a patrol. She was soft-spoken, dignified, and cared for others, but she wasn't passive. She wasn't aloof, as Raptorstar was. She wanted to get things done. She pressured the leader so much over the past moon, that he ended up holing himself away in his Twoleg monster, barely coming out except to go on his own patrols or hunt. He stayed very far away from the warrior he had accepted, the she-cat named Songbird, whom he had given the warrior name of Songbirdcall.

As Duskwillow realized Songbirdcall took no crap from the leader, she quickly became friends with this she-cat. They became a pair to be reckoned with, and shared a den, often staying up late to contemplate what they could do about Raptorstar's poor leadership. Divine intervention, it seemed, was on the she-cats' side. As both slipped off to sleep, a Starclan ancestor, disheveled looking, rolled her eyes as she explained their proposition to Raptorstar. He was on his last chance, his last moon to find a second leader, and it was clear he had no intention of finding one.

So they chose for him, and they chose Songbirdcall. The next day, she received her four lives, quickly taking the brunt of the leadership from Raptorstar. The tom, while clearly angry, glaring at Songbirdstar, said nothing as she rose to power. He could handle this. He could handle everything.

"You know, most of the clan doesn't really like you," Songbirdstar said matter of factly as she was trying to get Raptorstar to discuss strategy on patrols. She was suggesting they hunt, then patrol, taking care of the beehive sooner rather than later. She had heard the complaints of the clan, and she was going to get their concerns taken care of. It was who she was.

Raptorstar grunted in return, his back turned towards the she-cat. She could leave him alone, and never talk to him again, and he would be happier than ever.

"I just don't get why you won't work together with a clan that you wanted to make," she pressed, ignoring the fact that he was giving her the cold shoulder. For no reason. "Maybe you should just let me lead the clan by myself and I can actually get things done-"

Raptorstar cut her off with a sharp "no." The first word he had said to her all day. Songbirdstar resisted the temptation to roll her eyes. She sighed faintly, listening to the warriors mock battle outside, having a competition.

Competition...

The word sent a spark of an idea through Songbirdstar's mind. "I have a proposition for you," she said, getting the faintest flicker of attention from the other leader. "A competition."

Raptorstar allowed his curiosity to get the better of him, no matter how hard he tried to stop it. "What are you proposing?" A part of him hoped it would be fighting. He wanted nothing more than to beat his co-leader in a fight, even if he was unsure if he actually could win. He doubted Songbirdstar was as weak as he thought she looked.

"Two patrols. We each pick our members, and they will be even teams. We go hunting, and see which leader is better at delegating our patrols to find out who brings back the most prey. The patrol leader that comes back with the most prey gets to make the decision regarding the beehive, and the decision on which types of patrols to send out for the next two moons."

Raptorstar wrinkled his nose, opening his mouth to deny it... but he wanted so badly to prove to Songbirdstar that she was the inferior leader. Even if a part of him knew that she was right on most accounts, he was too stubborn to back down. "Fine," he grunted, getting up to follow Songbirdstar out and assemble their teams.

"Alright, you all know the rules, so Songbirdstar and I will pick our teams. I'll get first pick," Raptorstar said, shooting a smug grin at Songbirdstar, who only raised an eyebrow, gesturing for him to go on. "Petalsong," Raptorstar called, knowing she was stealthy and a good hunter, as well as a good strategist. There was a reason he had quickly chosen her for one of his soldiers.

"I want Weevilsnap," Songbirdstar said, eyeing the tom she had arrived with. He was fast, and an excellent tracker.

Fallencrow for Raptorstar, thinking he could have rank on his side. Whether it mattered or not... time would tell. No surprise to Raptorstar, Duskwillow was Songbirdstar's next pick. It wasn't like he was even thinking of choosing the hostile she-cat anyway. Longbranch was his next pick, as Fallencrow and him often worked well together. Rookfang, a newcomer Raptorstar had not interacted with, for Songbirdstar. Emberlily went to Raptorstar, despite her recent injury; Marshminnow, the final cat for Songbirdstar's team, was too energetic for Raptorstar's liking. He was afraid the bouncy tom would scare away all the prey.

"Alright, may the better leader win," Songbirdstar said, letting her mouth curl into a smile as Raptorstar did the same.

And with the sudden disappearance and arrival of two apprentices-“ Swiftstar paused to look at Ryepaw and Quincepaw, who had their heads lowered in regret. “-we must remain vigilant. I worry for our clan as much as you do.”. The clan murmured answers of agreement as the newest member, Creamflower, stepped forward. “I think we can push through this.” She said, staring with his blue-and-green eyes at Swiftstar. “I might not be familiar with clan life, but cats stick together.”. Swiftstar smiled approvingly at Creamflower, who puffed out her chest. “That’s the kind of motivation we need.” Swiftstar said.

Leaf-fall- Two young warriors squeal excitedly, darting after some leaves that were dancing around on the wind. A chill started to creep in on the air, chasing away the hot days of Greenleaf and quickly pulling the leaves from their branch homes. As the days become shorter and the skies change from a lively array of colors to a dead grey, the Clans will need to work hard on catching prey and stockpiling for the eventual snow fall of Leafbare.

Winter / Leaf-bare
Winter is here. Perhaps at last? Surely clans have all prepared properly for
the winter now? Those that didn't will surely be regretting it soon. The herbs
that are available for medicine cats will be changing drastically now, and
many of their uses will only be available to very skilled medicine cats to
truly find and utilise. Kittings will be harder and more dangerous, and surely
at least some lives will be lost among poorly prepared clans. Among the
thick blankets of snow that are falling everywhere now, fewer prey animals
will be moving around atop the snow for cats to capture. Fewer cats will be
exploring, and both disease and injury will be more common in the cold.

For all my clans, if your cats are pregnant, PLEASE tell me ASAP if you want me to do their art. I can't manage 18 cat line-arts within a day! If I don't have sufficient notice, you'll get an entirely stock photo litter. If you have rarer colours that can't be easily found in stock photos, that means there's a chance you might get an entirely dead-kit litter. I can't do 18 cat pictures overnight, but if I'm given a week or so, or I can share it out with other staff, I can manage that.

Make sure any images are credited appropriately in your posts! No one wants the thread being shut down because you made more work for yourself removing credits.

few days after the attack, starlingpaw succumbed to injury. pinegaze comforted valleyglow as the head medicine cat held her kit's body close through
her mournful sobs, giving the white molly one last lick on the forehead before leaving the den to give her time to grieve.

↪ the two deathclan cats freed tigerfang from his prison, but not without attracting the attention of fireclan. as crowfeather held the warriors off,
tigerfang and flamepaw were quick in invading the nursery and stealing both runningkit and cottonkit away. their mother yowling in fear and fury as
she ran after them. unfortunately for her, the toms were much quicker. crowfeather yowled for help as they passed, but perhaps out of ignorance or
due to the heat of the moment, neither appeared to hear her. it seems fireclan both lost and gained another deathclan prisoner.

gingersun took the most damage out of all. azureheart and blackwhisker helped take her home to where she collapsed into one of the spare nests
in the medicine den. her breathing growing more labored as the three await hazelleaf and whiteflurry's return. unceremoniously, it stops. black
whisker takes a shaky breath before he orders azureheart to tell silentstar what happened and to seek out the medicine cats after. silverpelt holds
another star tonight.
